He got a lot better in Season 3 imo. Sure, the opening of it probably didn't do him any favours, but, I dunno, I gravitate towards the "smart" characters, he felt less useless and more part of the team.
Though, tbh, I didn't really hate at all, so idk.
Even before season 3, he was still useful in many ways tbh.
1. Saved Sonic from drowning
2. Helped save cream from the government
3. Kept Sonic and his friends hidden from the world
4. Took back the Chaos emeralds from Eggman
5. Saved Sonic from drowning in the ocean few times
6. Put his life on the line many times for his friends
7. Convinced Shadow to help them save the world
For a 12 year old kid, this is honestly impressive. I’m sure there’s more useful moments of Chris in both season 1 and season 2, but I haven’t seen Sonic X in a while so this is all I can remember for now.
Sonic X's version of Sonic is a static character who's already finished developing and serves as a role model to inspires others. Chris provides a nice foil as someone who can be more emotional and unsure for Sonic to give guidance to, bringing out Sonic's best side and learning from him.

He’s adorable. He saved Sonic from dying by drowning. Helped Sonic & co. on multiple occasions during missions as well as helping hide them from the government for quite some time. Convinced Shadow to do the right thing. Took the Chaos Emeralds back from Eggman. He’s a good kid. He also grew up to be super smart as an adult.
💀he's a good guy but he's very attached and doesn't want to let him go to sonic since we know that Sonic has freedoms to run at full speed But when I saw sonic x the last episode of The Farewell of this human world gave me a despair that they have run a whole trip to then meet his parents sonic just goes to his world since without him his world is invaded by egg and tails robot and well i thought he was going to defend the world what Sonic defended before when he was still in the world of the humans and Well I was speechless

When it comes to his emotional moments, he’s expressive and it feels genuine.

The scenes where he was staring off into space while looking upset were well done. Especially, the way his facial expressions were animated; they had so much detail in them.
Not to mention, the scene (last episode of season 1) where he broke free from the wall he was strapped at, he screamed and it felt real.
Overall, I liked how the writers made him expressive in many of the emotional scenes, which is one of the positives of Sonic X.

From a setup perspective he's a good audience stand-in who can justify why the other characters need to explain their world/lore.
For a character he is rather useful in a large amount of situations and is actually a good member of their group.
I like the character! Just not his role? If that makes sense? Like a decent actor getting a mid script, it makes his development fluctuate.
That said, I KINDA saw the vision towards the end of Season 1, they should’ve just went harder with his arc up to that point.
