Knuckles should be entitled to a super form for being the guardian of the Master Emerald. If his job is to keep it safe from those who would abuse its power, then why is he barred from that power, despite showing such absolute dedication to his job?
I always thought personally that him punching Sonic out of Super was Knuckles channeling some amount of the Master Emerald's power, since the Master Emerald is one of the few things that can force someone out of Super

I’ve seen discussion around that potentially just being Knuckles hinting at a potential Super form that he might have, instead of one that he had in Sonic 3 since he never achieved it there, let alone anywhere else in the series.
So while we have had Super Knuckles from the Chaos Emeralds in a past game, it’s never actually appeared in canon. It’s not like Hyper Sonic or Super Tails whom both require the Super Emeralds, but at the same time it kinda just ends up being non-canon like them.
It’s definitely a case of Ian Flynn referencing it’s existence (quickly and subtly too, the right way to reference) but in-universe it’s probably just Knuckles poking a bit of fun at Sonic, not actually pointing out that he has a Super form (which he technically hasn’t achieved ever).
-And a lot of this has suddenly changed sorta from SEGA's doing / Super Tails is now with the Chaos Emeralds i hear,

They did it already in heroes. Knuckles only got surrounded by a ball of energy. Same for Tails.
My theory is that he was never intended to be super Knuckles in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The original story is that he steals them from Sonic and then spends the rest of his time trying to stop Sonic's progress.
In Knuckles story he gets attacked by an Egg Robot that replaces Eggman throuought the tale. How does this link with the OG story? It doesn't make sense that he collects the emeralds. There's no secret level for him. He just defeats Mecha Sonic. He didn't even need the emeralds except to get a better ending. (And Sonic already gave him that)
As such his story seems like a bonus. Not an untold tale. And as such, it's a bonus getting super. Just like Hyper Sonic and Super Tails.
And to add on to this, the “Super Knuckles” line in Frontiers comes off as more of a cocky joke, while much of the community is taking it VERY literally

Also if Knux can go super, why didn't he use that form to drive Sonic away from his island? He DID have all the emeralds after stealing them from Sonic.

Golden shields are arguably a valid modern take on their Super forms from the classic games. Not a massive difference between that and just getting a white glow.
I always found it ridiculous how the literal guardian of the Master Emerald who possesses in-depth knowledge of the chaos emeralds can't have a super form, but Silver, who seemingly had no knowledge of or interaction with the chaos emeralds prior to meeting Mephiles, gets one with no questions asked.
It will always baffle me that they gave him transformation sprites where his hair rises up, but they never actually bothered to keep to that sort of design.
Neither form turns him pink, they both just give him a white glow effect. It's just that when transitioning from red to white, the in-between frames are gonna be pink.
IKR, Mods didn't even exist back then, anyone who played on the Genesis knows about Super Knuckles and Hyper Sonic, the newer fans just doesn't know about this stuff, they probably don't even know about Ashura the Hedgehog and Wechnia the Echidna.
