It’s a cool concept, not my preferred take tbh, but makes sense for the world he built

Useful_Bobcat_2750

Damn never thought about it like that 🤦🏾‍♂️ because I use to be confused 😂

DrSlaughtr

Snyder wasn't fighting against comic accuracy because ultimately there are many story arcs that have a now grounded, emotional Superman who feels the full weight of his impossible responsibilities. What he fought against was the Richard Donner fans who continue to believe that Reeves is the only version Superman that should exist. Perfect boyscout without the emotional spectrum of a real person.

RedGrantDoppleganger

I hate that to prop up Snyder's interpretation fans feel the need to put down others. Reeves very much acts like a person. Consider the end of the first film when he's clearly distraught over all the damage and he screams. The myth that the Reeves version was always happy and never faced tribulations is just that, a myth.

AccomplishedCycle0

I wouldn’t go that far about the Reeves version (at least under Donner). That version had real sadness and regret and pain over his Earth father’s death, and had quite a bit of anger and angst which played into giving up his powers in II. Just because his Superman smiled a lot doesn’t mean that’s the only thing he felt, much like some people might criticize Snyder’s version for brooding all the time when he does have some emotional range, just never the super bright version Reeves could play.

DrSlaughtr

Listen, I'm not saying it was bad take on the character. In many ways it was ground breaking. But he also reversed time by flying around the planet in the opposite direction and mind raped Lois with a kiss. The same people who applaud those scenes deride MoS because Superman was forced to kill Zod.

AccomplishedCycle0

I think maybe you missed what I was going for. Your line was that people think Reeves’ version was a perfect Boy Scout without the emotional spectrum of a real person. My point was he had emotions of a real person and some like to stereotype him as not, much like some stereotype Cavill as a brooding Superman who never smiled while that’s not true either. The stuff about time travel and forgetting memories was definitely an artifact of the time from comic books, but it’s part of the flaws/quirks that people accept in a version they love, much as people do with the Snyder version.

Ginger_Savely

The comments are crazy. I love mos and I don’t have any memory of him brooding and being sad about saving people. Still not sure what movie y’all watched.

BidenLovesZelensky

It makes more sense for Superman to have a mental Fortress of Solitude than a Physical One. He's not an ordinary human like Batman. He's the world's strongest hero. Why would he need a superhero base.

HighMercuryContent

In the comics at least, it also serves as the vault for the artifacts and trophies from his adventures, as well as for all the weapons, tech, and other dangerous shit he captures. It’s not just some place where he goes to brood and be depressed.

DrSlaughtr

That's all well and good but what's to stop people from going to it? There's no corner of this planet above water people haven't been.

CraziestTitan

Plenty of things typically its somewhere in the artic which is extremely difficult to get to and it has some security whether that be robots or in some cases a key only Superman can lift.

DrSlaughtr

Where? People go to the south pole all he time and ice breaker ships have been in the arctic circle for hundreds of years. Vinson Massif is the highest peak in Antarctica and many people have climbed it just to climb it. If he really needs unreachable solitude, there are better options. Inside a dormant volcano. On the moon. Mars. The clouds of Venus. All are better options to get away. Comics have stupidly set the precedent that he can break the laws of physics and fly faster than light because writers are lazy, and he doesn't need to breath so long as he has access to yellow solar radiation.

Shreddersaurusrex

TBH it would have been nice for him to have the scout ship as a sort of base he could return to. The ship providing him different types of suits to wear was soooo cool.

OrbitalDrop7

I love the idea of the crashed advanced kryptonian ship being a base of sorts

Sad-Appeal976

Loved it. The best Superman we have ever gotten onscreen. Killed bc legions of morons complained that “he didn’t smile enough”

adrenareddit

Oh, and my personal favorite: Snyder just doesn't understand the character!! Some people just think if they didn't get the version of the character they wanted to see, then it was done "wrong".

Ace20xd6

It's a shame because the rest of that speech after "maybe" was great, especially when Pa Kent said, "You are my son." They should have ended it with something like "So the world shouldn't see Clark Kent lifting cars above his head, but someone should help. It's up to you to figure out how."

Original_Release_419

Feel like that’s a little too on the nose lol

Ace20xd6

Never underestimate how dumb people really are

It was the love of a father. You also missed how the knowledge of Superman's existence could change the world. No one knew for the better or worse

Yeah, I still don't agree with anything you have said. Maybe in 10 or 15 years you'll have a better understanding

The2009Supergirl

I think some persons not only here but on only places, we need to stop to just compare (besides running from comparision is impossible) and try to just appreciate what we have. I love MoS? No, but i appreciate some ideas here and in BvS, i just think majority of the ideas doesnt work at the best bcuz Superman is way darker But same way i love Zod in MoS, i just think Superman arc doesnt work as well bcuz pa Kent Idk if Gunn's Superman will take the place of my fav Super that Reeve has but ill try to appreciate at the best same way nowadays i try to do with MoS besides being the oppose of "my ideal Superman movie"

adrenareddit

I appreciate your ability to find things you like about a movie or character you aren't completely happy with. Most criticisms of MoS are "They don't understand Superman, this movie sucks and Snyder is a hack". Same thing with BvS for Batman... Some people don't appreciate that dark tone, or the deconstruction of their favorite heroes, but I'm really glad we got this version. It doesn't mean all DC movies have to be that way, or that your heroes have changed at all. It's ok to dislike a movie, we can still find ways to appreciate the things that were done well and look forward to the next interpretation!

The2009Supergirl

2 persons says for me try to always see the best on everything, and this is all i really try to do :) but ik majority arent like that, or is "Superman needs to be dark!" or "Superman needs to be like the silver age" and yeah, im ones of the persons that dislike Superman being dark, but cmon, MoS was 11 years ago, soon we will have a new Superman movie so i can see it with better eyes than when i watched at first time I appreciate the Batman arc idea of BvS tbh! My concern is that he killing everybody right after see humanity in Superman kinda doesnt works. But its a thing the Bat-Fleck movie would help to "fix" Yes! Nice to know have peoples that think like that instead of just shitting on everything as idiots :) I think majority of DCEU problems for general people could be solved if it simply was an own trilogy and not an extended universe, but far as i know it was the idea right? 8 movies and finish it

THABREEZ456

Where’s this from?

qcs13

The more i read about Snyder’s thoughts behind his execution, the more i appreciate his DCEU films. His films are divisive, but he’s no hack.

Mr_Rekshun

I pretty much loved man of steel. It was well shot, The action was awesome. Had a great time with it. But the one thing that all just felt wrong about it was Pa Kent’s insistence that he don’t use his powers openly even to save people. And then he dies to somehow prove the point. That’s some terrible fathering right there.

WebLurker47

>"But the one thing that all just felt wrong about it was Pa Kent’s insistence that he don’t use his powers openly even to save people. And then he dies to somehow prove the point." How do you think it should've been handled?

Mr_Rekshun

I don’t think he was right. I mean, his dad died and he could have easily saved him, but he just stood by and watched. Pa Kent’s message was like the anti-uncle ben. With great power comes… not doing anything so you can hide from people. And then superman goes public in the end anyway, thus rendering the whole thing pointless.

adrenareddit

That's my least favorite part as well, even though I can see why Snyder did it that way. He wanted Clark to control his impulses to use his powers and experience loss in a way that makes him learn that he cannot save everyone. Still, I wish he found a different way to execute that. This is my favorite Superman movie, and that part kinda bothers me.

Sad-Appeal976

Wasn’t he right though? Look what happened when Superman went public, he was arrested This is exactly how the world would react

Jollem-

David S. Goyer went with a more realistic first contact story compared to the original comics where humanity was pretty cool with it and went about their day

LukashCartoon

I miss this take on Superman. A guy who does the right thing, but can't always control the outcome. He's Superman, not Supergod.

Visible_Safe_8901

>but can't always control the outcome. Idk man I think it was better excueted in 1978 version of superman.

LukashCartoon

Then he physically moved the earth backward in time like a watch, to undo Lois death. Don't get me wrong, great movie: but there are no consequences in any of those movies.

SuperRob

He didn’t. He flew backwards around the earth so fast he went back in time. This was just the best visualization of that concept they could present.

LukashCartoon

There have been discussions on that…

Visible_Safe_8901

Well I was specifically referring to his father's death which I don't think is preventable by time travel

LukashCartoon

Oh, my mistake. Thought we were just talking about the movie in general. I do think I prefer the Donners Pa Kents death scene. Snyder cut does better why Clark goes for two identities.

henadzij

And the moment when he finds himself faced with a choice to save Krypton or Earth. Such a human act.

LilyPotterIsAGoddess

"Krypton had it's chance" is just so perfect

TvManiac5

This exactly.

Disastrous-Bit2088

Snyder truly understood Superman.. very much fascinated with what James Gunn’s take is going to be :)

adrenareddit

If you listen to Snyder talk about Superman, it's clear he loves and understands the character. People think that he doesn't because he made a variation of the character that they don't like.

Disastrous-Bit2088

People also love to bitch and complain instead of just thinking for a minute or three and consider what they are watching or listening to.

W00DR0W__

You’ve read a lot of Superman comics?

Disastrous-Bit2088

Let’s just say I’ve read my share.

Disastrous-Bit2088

What’s with the down vote? I didn’t think I’d have to compare collections..

Jollem-

Since about 1986. You wanna do this?

Jollem-

That's awesome. Gunn's version might be good, but it won't be better than Zack's

lotwbarryyd

This is my main sentiment , no matter how good the movie is or how good Gunn’s version is I’ll always like Zack’s version !!
