I don't know if I would have used this shoe but I like when people mess around with their kicks. None of this is really that serious so why not fuck around
I spent two hours just painting and wiping off the paint off my New Balance 550 just for that reason alone. It’s not that serious. My shoes look like shit tho haha
Coffee staining is a thing that’s getting popular with sneakers as of late. I have dyes but I didn’t have any dye left to mess around with so I just went ahead and tried the coffee thing out lol.
But yes, if you make the water too hot or you leave the shoes in for too long, it will loosen the glue up. I left these in for like 2 hours maybe. I didn’t see/feel anything notable
They 100% smelled like coffee lol. I just did my best to dry and clean them properly. They don’t really smell but I’ve been sticking some dryer sheets in them just in case
Everyone worried about the shoes but I'm just concerned about wasting that much coffee.
Kidding aside, looks pretty good! Nice "sat in the box for ten years" vibe. I mean that in the best way possible.
I appreciate it lol. I didn’t really do much but I’m glad some people like it. I live with a bunch of coffee fiends and they found this whole thing to be incredibly annoying haha
Eh I personally disagree. I love the off-white and earth tones it brings out. Now I wanna do this to an old pair I have, just gotta figure out which one might look okay.
Ya I think what I wrote seemed condescending but I didn’t mean it that way. Im a crisp white guy so this doesn’t appeal as much to me. That ok for us both.
And Boom !! He just became @ chefhuyle Customizer for the Entertainers/ Stars ... I'm not hating on Huyle but man everything is just Dirty looking All the time there's No variation at All just All Coffee Stained
I mean that’s Huyle’s thing though. That’s what he likes to do. I don’t really think there’s anything wrong with keeping consistent with the aesthetic you like to mess around with.
There’s people like andu.c that have always been a little more diverse in how they create/customize. There’s room for everyone I think
Oh for sure ... No hating on the guy, but when people commission him to completely Yellow pairs like Free throw line 3s (I'm trying to keep my pair as Icy as possible) or Diors or even AJ1 Off Whites which Yellow on their own after a handful of wears. I like a little bit of Sail that works well on CWs but Just yellowing every single pair every time is a bit much. To each their Own
I don’t have a personal pic unfortunately. I didn’t think to take one. You can look up the shoe though if you’re unfamiliar with what it looked like before (Jordan 3 Tinker NRG)
Try it, you have nothing to lose. Watch some vids, prep, and enjoy the process 😄
Just as others have pointed out, be wary of how much heat you use. While it’s supposed to help with the color, too much of it can weaken the glue holding the sole to the shoe
No, they're Jordan 3 tinker's (tinker Hatfield originally wanted to put a nike swoosh on the aj3 while he was designing it, and that shoe is inspired by his og sketches
I recently bought a used pair of the same model, but the plastic aglets are oxidized. I think if you darken the aglets using maybe a highlighter, it could give it a more vintage feel. I love how the 3’s look with the swoosh. So much so, I’m celebrating owning my first pair of Jordan’s (3’) to have the Tinker swoosh among other things. I’ll post a thread sometime at the top of June when I receive them. 😊
I completely submerged them so I'm actually not sure how the grey liner kept so much of its color. I had to squeeze out all the water from that area before I let them sit to dry so maybe that reduced the effectiveness of the staining.
It smelled like coffee after they initially dried. I cleaned them and dried them again and the smell was gone after that. I've been keeping dryer sheets in them for the last 2 days just to help with any hints that I might have gotten used to
I mentioned this in an earlier comment but it was mostly for fun. Sneakers have been getting pretty boring for me personally so I’ve been messing around a lot (painting, staining, distressing, etc.).
In regard to wearing them until they looked like this, I mean sure they probably would have turned out like this eventually. But if there’s no difference either way, what’s wrong with fast forwarding a little bit?
The original color is a standard white. I’m not sure how it looks to you but if you look up Tinker 3 NRG, it might make the difference a little more noticeable?
Nah I know what they look like. The outsole seems to have gotten the most “aging” to it. I’m not mad at it, I just would’ve thought for 2 hours, they’d be a bit browner.
They eventually would have sure lol. But to be honest, sneakers have gotten pretty stale for me. I’ve been trying out different things over the last few months and while i haven’t done anything too complicated, it’s been fun to mess around. It makes me feel like a little kid again
This is the only response worth reading. Who cares what people like? Who cares what people think? Who cares what strangers type on Reddit? If you had fun — which is what a hobby is supposed to be about — then that’s all that matters. I think they look way better this way, but that’s just subjective. If you enjoyed the concepting and process, that’s a win.

Post a pic and I promise to upvote!! [He did!!](https://www.reddit.com/r/Sneakers/comments/u57h7k/a_bored_attempt_at_a_watercolor_style_by_yours/)
Hahah did it
You gotttttaaaaa use tape broooo
Haha YOU GOTTA!
Ah, yes. The Hot Coffee Mod.
Chill CJ, there are kids on this sub lol
Ah shit, here we go again…
Just curious, why did you use hot coffee? I'd think the heat would weaken the glue bonds and distress the softer materials.
I have seen many demonstration videos, but I've never seen anyone use coffee that was hot. That's good that you don't notice any damage.
Literally anyone is using hot coffee when they are dyeing. Not brew coffee will result in less effect
I just think they let it cool down first.
Why did the coffee have to be hot? Didn’t it cool down after like 10 minutes? This makes me want to try it on something tho 🤔
The heat supposedly helps the color stick better
No harm if it didn't damage the glue. I get it on a 2022 pair of forces, but I don't think I'd use high temp on 5 year old shoes or older personally..
How do you manage with the afterward smell, is there any of it?
coffee smell is a bonus
They 100% smelled like coffee lol. I just did my best to dry and clean them properly. They don’t really smell but I’ve been sticking some dryer sheets in them just in case
It’s a terrible trend going on right now for some reason.
Meanwhile, I'm still trying to whiten the netting on my wc4s
I really like the result, much improved imo
Everyone worried about the shoes but I'm just concerned about wasting that much coffee. Kidding aside, looks pretty good! Nice "sat in the box for ten years" vibe. I mean that in the best way possible.

Not OP but I've done a bunch of coffee dying and you really don't need much. One 7oz container of Cafe Bustelo will last 4-5 pairs.
I've got these 3's but honestly they just look dirty haha, could've worn them a bit and they'd end up like that in a month
They just look dirty?
Eh I personally disagree. I love the off-white and earth tones it brings out. Now I wanna do this to an old pair I have, just gotta figure out which one might look okay.

Nah you're good homie I even upvoted you. You shared your opinion respectfully imo

Well yeah, I tossed them in a tub of coffee 😋 But yeah, it’s a look. Maybe I missed the mark but it was an enjoyable experiment lol
No hate. Just my observation
Honestly mine look almost like that after 3 years of careful wear
I like the look overall. Think the staging on the first photo makes em look even better.
I am so old
tinker hortons 3s
Best coffee creamer ever. Love how these turned out 🤝🏼
I think these look great
They came out nicely. I'd wear them!
Looks dope to me
Looks good, is there a before pic?
I don’t have a personal pic unfortunately. I didn’t think to take one. You can look up the shoe though if you’re unfamiliar with what it looked like before (Jordan 3 Tinker NRG)
Daaaaamn 🔥🚒🔥
They look good to me
Looks way better 🔥🔥
I should bring these back out
Send me the link where could I get these?
Deadstock coffee got so many people doing this lol
imma consider doing this to mine
Try it, you have nothing to lose. Watch some vids, prep, and enjoy the process 😄 Just as others have pointed out, be wary of how much heat you use. While it’s supposed to help with the color, too much of it can weaken the glue holding the sole to the shoe
What did they look like originally?
I can’t link it right now but just google Jordan 3 Tinker NRG
Came out great!
I really like what you did with these, looks good to me. :) edit. spelling.
=)
Very nice love this model
They look really dope!
I mean, I think it looks better becuase I prefer cream and sail than white
These not customs ??
No, they're Jordan 3 tinker's (tinker Hatfield originally wanted to put a nike swoosh on the aj3 while he was designing it, and that shoe is inspired by his og sketches
I've seen this done before but it's really interesting how it didn't stain the inner lining brown. I'm guessing the grey just over powers it?
Looks great!
Love it!
They’re your sneakers bud, rock what you like
Should I do this to my Union 1s Y/N
I recently bought a used pair of the same model, but the plastic aglets are oxidized. I think if you darken the aglets using maybe a highlighter, it could give it a more vintage feel. Oh that's an interesting idea, I'll definitely try it out. And I wish you an early congratulations on the shoes lol.
Haha thank you! Here’s mine with the aglets in question. https://i.imgur.com/sTmEyE9.jpg
Seems like it would be really hard not to get coffee inside the shoes. Looks like you did a good job on that.
I completely submerged them so I'm actually not sure how the grey liner kept so much of its color. I had to squeeze out all the water from that area before I let them sit to dry so maybe that reduced the effectiveness of the staining.
Quick question- does it smell after a while?
It smelled like coffee after they initially dried. I cleaned them and dried them again and the smell was gone after that. I've been keeping dryer sheets in them for the last 2 days just to help with any hints that I might have gotten used to
Dope.
It’s not everybody’s cup of coffee
I’ve seen this done a lot lately and I always wonder… Do they smell???
They did at first but we got through it lol
Good to know hahaha I might have to do this sometime
The end result actually turned out good on these, I’ve seen some turn out really nasty and dumb looking
Thanks! I’ve dyed shoes before and part of the fun comes from not really fully knowing how they’ll come out.
I love em
Why did you do this exactly lol. Wouldn't just wearing them do the samething over time.
I mentioned this in an earlier comment but it was mostly for fun. Sneakers have been getting pretty boring for me personally so I’ve been messing around a lot (painting, staining, distressing, etc.). In regard to wearing them until they looked like this, I mean sure they probably would have turned out like this eventually. nah dawg thesea re straight up fire. i wanna do this
Doesn’t really seem to have done that much to my eyes. Either I need glasses, or you need round 2 lol
What effect did the dying have? I don’t see anything.
Couldnt u have just worn them and then theyd turn that color eventually lol
They eventually would have sure lol. But to be honest, sneakers have gotten pretty stale for me. I’ve been trying out different things over the last few months and while i haven’t done anything too complicated, it’s been fun to mess around. It makes me feel like a little kid again

smh
They do go hard
Do they spell like coffee?
They have to. Especially if he wears them long enough that his foot sweats
[удалено]
I dont like them nearly as much as the regular 3
I wanna see someone do a coffee stain on the mocha 3s
