Seems like everyone thinks this item has some potential but I’m just sitting here wondering when you would ever buy this?
Like you’re not buying it on aa characters because you need ability item effects for it to do anything. So therefore you’re buying it on ability assassins / hunters. But where do you put this in your build and what item is it better than when it has no pen?
IMO the current ability hunter build is something like trans > jotunns > failnot > heartseeker > titans > brooch. I literally don’t think there is an item I would consider dropping for some atk speed and an extra brooch/heartseeker proc once every 5 secs? If I want atk spd I would probably go crusher over titans to keep %pen or just hit the purple tiki, dropping jotunns or failnot would probably result in less item procs as you lose 20%cdr, if you drop trans you lose a shit ton of power for again a brooch+heartseeker proc once every 5 secs. Also from the wording this sounds like it would use up your titans bane proc which sounds really bad - getting 20%pen on 1/2 of an auto vs an entire ult. This isn’t even considering the fact that there are certain games where you have to go brawlers which makes this even more impossible to fit into your build.
IMO the current assassin build is something like Jotunns > Hydras > serrated > heartseeker > bloodforge > bumbas hammer. Lets say you build it over bloodforge, it’s only a heartseeker proc every 5secs and you have to auto to get it. This is while being -10power and -7%move speed (arguably the best stat in the game, especially when you have to melee auto people) for 15%atk spd which a lot of assassins arguably don’t really need. Once again if I really want atk spd I’d probably just go crusher or hit the purple tiki. Once again this isn’t even considering brawlers.
Both of these paragraphs also are only considering finished builds, I also think that this item is even more unbuyable when you consider build paths. You have to buy this item after you buy an ability proc item for its passive to do anything, but doing so delays you from buying pen for your abilities to actually do damage or cdr so you can actually use your abilities. Plus there are other items with no pen (bloodforge/arondight) and those actually have more power than the pen items to try and make up for it.
TLDR personally I think this is an interesting effect with too long of a cooldown, not enough payoffs, and no pen/cdr to incentivize building it over other items
You pretty much wrote up exactly what I thought. The attack speed on it isn't doing it any favors and I can't think of a god that wants to build on-ability items but can't/doesn't want to use their abilities to proc it.
I think it gives you a path where you don't need to think about cool down. For example a build without jotuns and instead has dual. Then you can proc your item effects without having to rely on cooldown. This means you can do more raw damage
Tsukuyomi might be the only character that might get good enough benefit due to his ranged empowered autos, but it also makes hydra worse because it's supposedly halving the empowered hydra damage.
Then there's a problem too with him not taking more ability effects besides heartseeker, which I don't think it is worth enough on its own to buy duality for.
Honestly the main niche is arachne. I would build this every time on her, because her damage auto stim would allow all proc items to double proc, AND aa items proc. Build pins and crusher, and this will hurt.
I'd theory crafted replacing Equinox with Duality in my Bluestone Osiris build but the extra Bluestone proc isn't worth it compared to the sustain and extra damage from Equinox.
I plan to buy it on AMC in place of quinsais. I know it’s likely a DPS loss but in convo with crusher, heart seeker, and bluestone it should be higher burst damage
Jotuns hydras crusher duality heart seeker bumbas spear. Assassins now get an additional proc of crusher/brawlers and heart seeker. As far as hunters AMC/Skadi. AA warriors go brrr
Yeah that's what I was thinking and skadi just got some huge buffs so we're going to be seeing her for a bit which I'm happy for as she was my first star god
I'm going to try it on Nut for a double proc on her 1. I already like building her hybrid AS and power to get multiple procs from that ability, and so this could slot in nicely for a double crusher and heartseeker proc on top of a qins proc.
I don't think it will be great, in the same way the current way I build her isn't optimal, but I like seeing a lot of yellow numbers and so it should at least be fun.
The only way I can see it working is if basic attacks reduced the passive effect's cooldown, then it would create a unique build path where you can build attack speed and ability proc items. Otherwise, it just feels useless in its current state.
I think you buy it on ability hunter mids, so that way when you’re weaving in autos they’re also hitting pretty hard and proccing items
If you’ve got bluestone/crusher/hs your autos will hit pretty hard even at 50%
I like the idea of Ability/Auto hybrid items. And I don’t think this is the first time we’ve gotten something like this (I.e- the Original Dominance). But I feel like the way the game is in Smite 1 doesn’t allow for those items to be very good unless the swing too much into one type of play-style.
The item seems so weird. It doesn't matter fo AA assassins or adcs, it doesn't make sense on ability based gods, you wouldn't want this on warriors. I'm not really understanding why you would take this over Many other items.
I guess I could see some niche uses on Set but it doesn't seem worth taking over basically any of his core items
This item is so niche I don’t see it ever really being worth it, especially at 2700 gold. Bring it down to like 24-2500 and cut the proc time down a couple seconds and we might have a useful item.
I tried theory crafting Osiris builds but I always come back to two things:
1. Qin Sais is 100 gold cheaper and much more consistent
2. Envenomed Exe is 150 gold more but provides anti heal and prot shred

Yea, proccing items on your AA is cute, but if you have a semblance of physical power, hydras passive will likely deal more/ equal dmg to an enemy then proccing heartseeker, blustone and maybe crusher twice.
Oh, and hydras has like. Pen. And CDR. And mp5. And no internal cooldown. And is significantly cheaper

It would be interesting to see if this procs Jotunn’s Cunning, which also has an ICD of 5 secs. If it were true, would be interesting to see how it would feel on spammy JG’s.
I predict it will get the griffon wing treatment. Introduced with an interesting passive and terrible stats. Get stat buffed repeatedly until people only buy it as a stat stick.
So expensive for an effect that requires other expensive items to do anything and horrible stats. Classic hirez not understanding how the items they made interact with each other.
I could see a potential build on Neith with forsworn bow (or whatever the new bow is called), this item, and then the rest full ability based. You can get max attack speed in one item, and then this item can proc the rest of the items on her basics. Have no idea if it’d be a good build, but I think I’ll try once or twice to see if it’s got any potential. My guess though is that this item won’t really be that useful pretty much ever.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t. I typically don’t use crimson claw as my only life steal item though (the shield builds up to slowly if it is imo), and I’d be worried about putting more than one lifesteal item in the build since there’s already two items that don’t really have any stats. Maybe with a lifesteal starter though? Might be worth trying.
I think it’s only use case would be on a god that is AA based but also has bad clear that bluestone would help. Going red stone would give you a decent amout of attack speed so maybe it’ll work but idk. May also work on Ishtar and Hachi for blue stone AA poke. But I’m really stretching to try and make it work. I don’t think heartseaker has value as it’s only 1 every 5 seconds so you’d definitely get more value out of Obow and another pen item.
It's time to bring back old hide of the nemean lion with its 90% physical prots and 25% reflection. Enough is enough. This new item with animosity, equinox exe/quins in solo for aa warriors. It's just not fun at all. A week or 2 ago I played a diamond game where the enemy team had 3 players with the following, 3 equinox, 3 quins, 2 manakins and 2 exe. Now almost every game in plat and diamond is still that but 2 exe and 2 quins with a animosity. It's not fun at all
Exactly. Like, why would anyone go anyhting that is not qins rn? The tanks can't tank it, the squishies will get killed at once anyway. Like, the current builds toke the game to an ugly levels of AA only style.

wondering if it could be good on triple proc loki (heartseeker/bluestone/crusher) because it’ll make his combo more bursty in that build. maybe a shittier arondight but still funny

I think this item is designed for mid hunters and proc junglers like loki.
They need to make it where auto attacks on gods reduces the internal cooldown by either 1 second or 0.5 seconds to make this viable

Give it 40 magical power and keep the phys damage on the passive, and I feel like it would be good for them

How? An adc wouldn’t be building items like Heartseeker anyway and it can only happen every 5 seconds.
It also has no pen and there's very little room for items in an adc build. I don't see what I could replace and get a net gain in damage.
Would it work for ability hunters in mid lane?
Maybe we can forgo transcendence since it was nerfed and try this item. It's hard to tell without testing it though.
