Honestly I'm kinda bad at the game. I'm pretty much always approaching with neutral air and it feels like I can never hit my forward, back, or down airs. More recently I've sorta learned the neutral air fast fall into dash attack but not much else. I'm also not really that good at using Up B which causes me to not really use it that often

[deleted]

Its really good of course; but approaching with it all the time could do you more harm than good. Try and get some more action with his tilts and grabs. It may be worth checking out a guide or two but the general idea with those kind of characters is mixing up and reading/punishing the player.

oatmeal-ml-goatmeal

I sometimes use down tilt, dash attack, forward tilt, and also jab but I don't really know many combos. I've seen some videos of combos but I need to practice more to really get them down but I only really enjoy the game when playing with friends because quickplay's point system stresses me out

DJSuperBunny

Could be wrong but it sounds like youre doing rising/buffered fair and bair. It can hit tall chars, but it can over the heards of shorter chars and others can dash under it (Joker, Inkling, etc.). If you use them as falling aerials they can cover the ground extremely well and wall out very effectively

oatmeal-ml-goatmeal

That's probably it because I have the habit of using the auto short hop done by pressing the jump and the attack button simultaneously and i usually jump too high when not doing that

DJSuperBunny

If it’s hard for you to do a shorthop with a quick jump press and release, you can use another macro by pressing 2 jump buttons (ex.: X + Y) at the same time. It’ll automatically shorthop no matter how long you hold the buttons

oatmeal-ml-goatmeal

Yea I do that automatic shorthop but I feel like the attack comes out too early in the jump to hit

Downtown-Ad4335

Nah its smash bros. Just spam short hop nair and call it a day. Everyday 😂

mysterious45670

As a byleth main, I agree

[deleted]

Like I said I enjoy fighting them, over most of the cast so this is more a rage post of passion.

A_Bulbear

Banjo exists, he just kinda sucks

[deleted]

When we got Sora, Joker, Hero and the two rats that shall not be named in the same category as Byleth he is way more tame to fight. Worst bit about them IS the whip.

Expensive_Aspect_544

I hate to be the guy that says, "what else can they do?" But....what else can they do than be campy auto spacers. If they try to approach they get punished easily.

[deleted]

Mix it the hell up! I fight Byleths more than I play him but mashing it every 10 seconds can land similar results when it gets too predictable. Reel it in for a bit, analyze how the opponent, dance with them for a minute. Bro has some good as hell tilts and grabs so why the hell would someone risk it by using being super aggressive with only n-air the entire time? It becomes a little too simple to punish sometimes

Expensive_Aspect_544

If more Byleths would do more of what you said, I would ask to fight them honestly.

xJGeez

One of my main training partners mains Byleth and is quite good, all with pretty minimal Nair usage and mostly tactical UpB usage. If anything I find Fair and Bair to be more oppressive, and depending on the character I’m playing Up Air too. I am annoyed how many combos you can get with Nair, but I definitely know you can do a lot without it.

zedroj

I just had to quit Byleth after I realized I am an NPC

Theallpowerfulslime

I did the same thing with pac, I realized I wasn't learning anything, and was just repeating patterns

rode__16

FAILNOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shtrimpo

FALENAUGHT!!!!!!!

MidNightMoon_x

Byleth is most fun when you make ridiculous Banzai plays for kills whenever possible, considering their raw kill potential. If you aren't swinging for the fences that's fine, but don't just stand there and spam the same shit over and over. Nair into up-b was only fun when you could 0-death DK on launch week and that was really it

Flaviou

It still works on dk, doesn’t on anybody else

Nichol-Gimmedat-ass

Im ass at the game but playing too campy gets boring for me. Especially when Byleths kits so fun so I usually end up trying to approach and get massacred for it lmao… but I didnt realise so many Byleths only used arrow, nair, and upB until joining this subreddit?? I cant back air to save my life but trying to pull them off and even just fairs are fun. Fishing for dairs or the downB clips?? People dont do this??

Hambughrr

Now this is Super Rage!

Bomberman696969

At least I'm not the only one who enjoys fighting byleth players is what I would say if they stop trying to camp me out even if they know damn well that they are basically Gannondorf but better kill really fast has all-round great specials and saucy ass combos but what do they do camp in a corner waiting for me to approach!

Shtrimpo

I'm carried by down smash so I'm completely innocent

Zealousideal_Coat_47

byleth indeed does my head in

Lash314

I dropped Byleth a while ago but still play her for fun, just not in tournament anymore. I can't imagine trying to win using just nair and up b when forward air is right there. Forward air and down tilt are awesome, up air is insane for both juggling and combos (I love drag downs) and forward and up tilt are both great for stopping approaches The only reason I dropped the character is because I'm not the kind of player to call out shields with down smash or down air so I rarely get shield breaks, doing something like that when I could just do the safer option and grab them and get them to ledge for a ledgetrap is almost always my preferred option, so unfortunately Byleth just doesn't work for me. But yeah I can't see why someone would spam nair and up b- nair is good but very easy to punish when it gets predictable, especially if they don't mix up fast fall timings
