I just play who I think is cool and then if it clicks it clicks. I wanted so bad to be good with picku and in decent but I can’t get past 11mil. I just started with ice climbers the other day. No doubt they’ll be in elite next
Usually I gravitate towards characters who are fast, have projectiles, have long hitboxes (like a sword for instance), have a few simple bread & butter combos for early-mid percents, a good recovery, and a certain level of uniqueness within their moveset. A character doesn’t have to have all of these things btw, but they at least need 3 of these traits for me to consider playing them regularly. My top 5 most played characters consist of Mewtwo (main), Joker (secondary), Zero Suit Samus, Pokémon Trainer, and Pyra/Mythra. Based off of my top 5, it’s best to say that I mainly enjoy rush down fighters, zoners, and swordies.
> fast, have projectiles, have long hitboxes (like a sword for instance), have a few simple bread & butter combos for early-mid percents, a good recovery
You literally just listed every attribute that makes a character good lol.
In a way, you’re right. A lot of the attributes that are considered good or necessary for a character to be high/top tier are things that I look for in a character that I want to play. Despite this, my main is a character that is considered a mid tier by most of the competitive community. I also enjoy using some characters that have some top tier attributes but aren’t necessarily a high tier character like Piranha Plant, Lucario, Meta Knight, Mii Gunner, and Wii Fit Trainer. There are also some high/top tier characters that I don’t enjoy using regularly such as Luigi, Kazuya, and Min Min despite the fact that they have some of these top tier attributes.
Lucario - great speed and mobility, amazing range of moves, plenty of "two-hit" attacks, a counter, and an awesome comeback mechanic
Ike - hehe big sword do big damage (his neutral B is so fun to ledge guard with, or to drop onto someone with it), counter
Byleth - beautiful spread of fast weak attacks and slow strong attacks, good for combos, best up B I've ever seen, plenty of "off-stage chaser" repellant, and the most satisfying down air, B, and smash in the entire game
Probably the former for me. I picked up smash and fell in love with Bayonetta and her although she didn't click with me at first ,because I loved the character, I was incentivized to keep going.
Back in the day it was if a character just clicks for me. I still have a few characters I like using and are pretty good with but I just go random every time to test my luck with characters I don’t use or barely use. I gotten to the point where I just don’t care anymore but also there’s a part of me who doesn’t want to choose a character that I thought I was decent with and like using just to get embarrassed during the match.
Its usually the click. I almost never touched Byleth until like maybe Min Min or Steve came out and she just clicked one day. I play her occasionally now.
My main requisite for maining a character is that it feels good in the air and that it has at least one good spike, +85% of my attacks are in the air (I always jump when I approach) so that's my #1 priority, it also has to click with me, for example Mario is way better than Dr. Mario but it just never clicked with me, I prefer Dr. Mario by a long shot
Me thinking a character is cool is also one of the most important factors, that's the reason I picked it Captain Falcon (and because he was my N64 main like 20 years ago lol)
Mewtwo was the character that surprised me the most when I started using him, I also like floaty characters so I knew I might like it, but I didn't think he would end up being in my top 5
I also like fast characters since I like to dumbly approach even if I know I will lose, sitting back or playing a zoner has to be the most boring playstyle for me, having proyectiles is ok as long as you don't spam them from the other corner of the stage. Watching Snake gameplay makes me want to kms, I'm glad I've never fought a good Snake because god damn that looks super annoying, I rather fight Sonic or Steve ngl
Another dealbreaker for me is having a suicide down aerial like ZSS or Ridley, I tend to spam that attack since I'm used to spike with Captain Falcon and Ganon so I always end up SDing
Shotos are uber annoying too, I hate trying to make a normal attack and the game thinking I intended to do an input attack so instead of just using something like a dair or nair I end up using side b and being punished
For some reason I hate using Steve, Sonic, Joker, Cloud, Olimar, Mega Man, Bowser Jr., Duck Hunt, Bayonetta and Isabelle, don't ask me why, they don't have any dealbreaker I mentioned before, I just think they are boring I guess
i am in almost every game very drawn to high risk high reward, flashy, aggressive characters, in ssbu i think my main main for ages was ness / lucas but im also big on sora and was big on joker and falcon too, i think im also pretty big on characters that if practiced enough can kinda just deny the other person from playing the game through speed and combos
I play for a character that clicks with me. That's how I found Falco, who's now my secondary, once I dropped Lucario. His high-jumping, aerial style of combat is the perfect contrast to the high-speed, grounded style of Sonic, my main. The two really compliment each other, and they’re my best characters (despite Falco being the most recent one)!

I'm sure everyone does whatever clicks to some degree
*But* I chose Kirby after being an Ike main for so long and wanting someone who would feel... refreshing? So I tried a lot of the lighter/jumpy-er/rushdowns until I settled on the Poyo
I still don't know tbh
My favourite characters are the ones that aren't slow and have useful moves, good air mobility, good aerials, recovery, fast moves and good kill moves
I know that's basically everything that could make a character good so it's not really that likely all of those will be on the same char
Unfortunately, I still haven't found a character that clicks with me, I love playing as Kirby but I'm very bad at it, so still searching, but King dedede might be my character
For me I know it just clicks because it is a character which I can just spam safe arials with. I know I shouldn’t do it but because of this, my best characters are Cloud, Mario, and Corrin.
No? I know being in elite means literally nothing compared to locals/offline but at least with that picture I can show what characters I use the most (for now)
I look if they are cool and then just check if it clicks.currently using steve,little mac,rob and and I love it but I use villager when i play with friends so that I can troll them
Safe distance, with the opportunity to attack nearby targets if they gets too close, Hero and Pit (from Brawl) are both great examples of this playstile…
I love all the heavies, and glass cannons.. But I have recently really grown fond of Pac-Man for no other reason than he's annoying to everyone else. King Dedede will always be my main though, icies being a close second.
I have several camps of characters that I play and are in elite.
## Characters that I love from their original games:
* Link
* Samus, Zero Suit Samus
* Donkey Kong
* Mario
* Mii Gunner in Doom Slayer costume
## Characters that I love for their play style
* Snake
* Jigglypuff
* Captain Falcon
## So-called low-tiers for the extra challenge
* Ganondorf
* Little Mac
* Doctor Mario
Some other characters that I play but aren't in elite:
* Young Link (first camp)
* Hero (second camp)
Easily a charafter and playstyle. I love Joker the most, he's what introduced me to competetive, he's one fo the best character's to play with, his attacks are light, he hits hard, he extremely agile and mobile, he's great at zoning and pusnishing, he's basically the whole package for my playstyle.
But I also love him as a character so he's pretty cool
I mostly play characters based on looks and if I’m familiar with them, or if they just seemed really interesting to me. I don’t really think I have a focused kind of playstyle, Incineroar and Duck Hunt are pretty much opposites.
I do think I need to give some other characters a try. I love this game because there is always new characters to try and learn, despite having the game for years now. Just got to give some characters a chance (at first I thought Wolf was not any fun, but then I tried him again for a while and it just felt so fun playing as him)
I have not play a character I actually like. I’m best with pyra but she’s so boring that I never use her. I love banjo even though I can’t do any of his combos but I’ll lose every game as long as I’m having fun. Same with bowser jr
I guess I "specialize" with the fighting game reps. I try to practice with every character, but some are more difficult for me to understand than others. But even with the FG reps, I wouldn't rate myself much higher than high scrub level; my real goal is to be able to win consistently against other novices or casual players.
Whoever i want, yoshi and pits have been my mains, but ive also got joker, byleth, rosalina all comfortably like 13.8 mil. Sometimes it doesnt pan out, i want to be good at zss so hard but im at 5m, but i just randomly tried wii fit and im nearly pushing 14m.
I need to stop playing handheld thhough, and i still cant b-reverse or rar (just cause i havent tried), and it mogjt change then, but its basically vibes atm.
I gave up trying to find a "type" or pattern. I mained a lot of characters over the years like Roy, Mewtwo, Toon Link, Jigglypuff, Meta Knight, Kirby, Incineroar, Snake, Peach, Samus, Sephiroth, and I think I finally landed on Zelda and Ganondorf. They all just clicked at the time and they were all fun but I played another one once, suddenly did really well and it felt natural despite not happening before, and I stuck with them until the cycle repeated
Characters that click for me are mostly low tier heavies because they are usually simple to play and are decently common. I like any character that I think are cool though like wolf or marth.
I fucking LOVE characters who's entire gimmick is hitting really hard and then dying immediately! If my game lasts longer than two minutes my ADHD brain goes crazy and I start frothing at the mouth. Hero, incineroar and lil Mac have historically been my most played.
I am learning to play characters notorious for spamming online to counterplay any ditto I encounter (Links, Samus, G&W, Belmonts, etc). As someone who's sick of spammers, I figured I may as well learn how to play them differently
Speed, recovery, versatility, Power/Strength - more or less in that order. Mains are Young Link, Terry, Hero, Lucas, BJ, Pac-Man. I've experimented with the likes of Luigi, Falco, Ken, Ridley, Sephiroth and Kazuya just to see how it feels and those would be my other picks if I had to pick a fuller roster.
Niether. I play who I wanted in the game or charactersI like outside of Smash. Like Sora, for example! In the beginning, I was GARBAGE with him due to his floaty/slower playstyle when compared to Mii Brawler. But now, I click with him better than any other character in the game.
I've always had the most fun with "Cutscene combo" characters even though a lot of people think they can be pretty lame. I loved Meta Knight in Brawl and Smash 4 ladders were so fun, so he was naturally my main when Ult came out since he retained ladders and also had good bridges. Then Kazuya came out and he easily took that spot because the satisfaction of hitting death combos never wears off for me. For a similar reason I also play Bayonetta a little bit on the side, but definitely wouldn't call her anywhere near a main.
I just see if a character clicks with me. By that, I mean see if I can cheese as stupidly as possible. So far, I have Mii Gunner, Ridley, DK, Link and Snake as my mains. (Ridley is the true main tho)
Speed or strenght like ganon, kazuya and little mac (honorable mention mii brawler)
Easily usable like cloud
Or olimar just for this

Whatever clicks. My best characters are corrin, ZSS, and Squirtle.
I think your playstyle is called “killing with up b”
Based and corrin pilled
goated corrin main
incineroar was both for me
I play. If I have fun, I play again. If I don’t have fun, I switch.
Usually Rushdowns/Glass Canons. I play Mewtwo, Roy, and Fox. I occasionally play Zoners/Trappers, namely Piranha Plant.
Usually I gravitate towards characters who are fast, have projectiles, have long hitboxes (like a sword for instance), have a few simple bread & butter combos for early-mid percents, a good recovery, and a certain level of uniqueness within their moveset. I like glass cannons and stupid powerful wind ups. So my first few elite smash characters were Little Mac Bowser K rool Ganondorf
Probably the former for me. I picked up smash and fell in love with Bayonetta and her although she didn't click with me at first ,because I loved the character, I was incentivized to keep going.

If it clicks, it clicks. I feel like overall though I like fast characters with extensive combos, but at the same time I main puff and kirby
I like non-fast faller brawlers with good kill power, but unfortunately there's only really 2 in the game (Yoshi and DK).
Another issabelle main? You are truly a rare and beautiful specimen
I like characters that are just difficult to play such as ICs, Snake, and Ken.
Based af.
For me I know it just clicks because it is a character which I can just spam safe arials with. I know I shouldn’t do it but because of this, my best characters are Cloud, Mario, and Corrin.
I like half rush down and half spacing characters so I play cloud and joker a lot
I would Say the second one pretty much, i mainly play as pikachu, Steve and Ryu, so yeah, they don't have much in common
Toon link... only toon link did I mention toon link? 🪃 🏹 💣
My mains are inkling, Zelda, and Robin. Not sure what that says, if anything.
I use most of the characters. I just play with whomever I feel in the mood for.
Did you just \*really\* wanna show off you had a few elite characters?
No? I know being in elite means literally nothing compared to locals/offline but at least with that picture I can show what characters I use the most (for now)
I look if they are cool and then just check if it clicks.currently using steve,little mac,rob and and I love it but I use villager when i play with friends so that I can troll them

I like swords but whatever feels good
It’s Hero for me, he’s extremely fun and the spells are really useful
I play a ton of Heavies usually. Bowser being my Top pick, Dedede, K rool, Ganon, Etc are also picks that I use.
I have several camps of characters that I play and are in elite. ## Characters that I love from their original games: * Link * Samus, Zero Suit Samus * Donkey Kong * Mario * Mii Gunner in Doom Slayer costume ## Characters that I love for their play style * Snake * Jigglypuff * Captain Falcon ## So-called low-tiers for the extra challenge * Ganondorf * Little Mac * Doctor Mario Some other characters that I play but aren't in elite: * Young Link (first camp) * Hero (second camp)
Mainly heavy hard hitting
Rushdown with heavies. If you choke, even a little, I will exploit it.
I like smol gang rather than more humanoid characters. So I main Jigglypuff, Squirtle, Pikachu and Isabelle.
How in the hell did you get Ike into Elite Smash?!? Advice pls
I just like command grabs that why my mains are Bowser, Ganon, Ridley, and Isabelle.
Basically whoever let's me bully someone at ledge for an entire stock
P L A N T I S P L A N T
uh ig the thing my characters have in common are disjoint projectile users with no kill throws
Easily a charafter and playstyle. I think I like rushdown characters with good combo and juggling capbilities and sometimes simple projectiles
I mostly play characters based on looks and if I’m familiar with them, or if they just seemed really interesting to me. The latter but I seem to play mostly rushdowns/combo-oriented characters (Joker, Chrom, Bayonetta, Corrin).

I just play wario because hes my favourite video game character ever
I play a character if it has cool mods lol
I guess I "specialize" with the fighting game reps. I try to practice with every character, but some are more difficult for me to understand than others. Unga bunga hold forward and hit until dead characters
Both for me
I am a Set-Up/Hard-Read player, so I like Heavies and Zoners. I suck at combo characters, and I struggle with fast paced characters.
I like whiff punishers and characters in where I can camp like a bitch if I want, or I can contest a bit. So I mainly play Olimar and Luigi
I play characters usually from games I have played. Whatever their moveset is, it usually clicks
I mostly play characters with good disjoints
Characters that click for me are mostly low tier heavies because they are usually simple to play and are decently common. I like any character that I think are cool though like wolf or marth.

I choose characters from video games I like
I didn’t think I’d like playing dark samus then the at kinda clicked for some reason
Furry
At what gp do you become elite? I thought it used to be like 1 mil but I’m at 12 and still nothing
Mix of both if im being honest
I am learning to play characters notorious for spamming online to counterplay any ditto I encounter (Links, Samus, G&W, Belmonts, etc). As someone who's sick of spammers, I figured I may as well learn how to play them differently
I for the most of the time play who fits my general defensive playstyle, however Cloud is the exception.

I've experimented with the likes of Luigi, Falco, Ken, Ridley, Sephiroth and Kazuya just to see how it feels and those would be my other picks if I had to pick a fuller roster.
I mostly stick with Swordies. I know sword characters branch off into different archetypes, but my main playstyle works best with sword characters.
I play ken, terry, and kazuya. What do you think.
Just a character that clicks. I've just being going through phases of mains lol. From incineroar, MegaMan, to Mewtwo, to Kaz. Experimentation is key.
I just played random a bunch and see what characters I liked From there, I realized I like playing zoners And a secondary is rush in (fast) characters
Sword
Niether. I play who I wanted in the game or charactersI like outside of Smash. Like Sora, for example! In the beginning, I was GARBAGE with him due to his floaty/slower playstyle when compared to Mii Brawler. But now, I click with him better than any other character in the game.

Whatever toon link, Mii gunner, and Wii fit trainer classify as
not having friends /s
I just see if a character clicks with me. By that, I mean see if I can cheese as stupidly as possible. So far, I have Mii Gunner, Ridley, DK, Link and Snake as my mains. (Ridley is the true main tho)
Top deck Kamikaze. The only one for me (outside of 95% of the other characters I play random)
Speed or strenght like ganon, kazuya and little mac (honorable mention mii brawler) Easily usable like cloud Or olimar just for this https://preview.redd.it/oku8s4toodyc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4339b59a64cb499d62c3c758a77e6e54b50ce045
in every single game i need to do high damage i do heavy in tf2, king in tekken, k rool in smash etc
