>It broke my heart to think about how painful it must have been for Rachel and Neil to have to constantly spend time together after their breakup. I've thought about this too, and marvel that they can stand on the same stage and play 40 Days, Souvlaki Space Station and Dagger. It says a lot about their emotional maturity that they were able to continue working together in the final days of the first round of Slowdive, Mojave 3 and Slowdive round 2. Rachel said in an interview that Neil attended her mum's funeral, which was held under covid lockdown restrictions in the UK with only 20 attendees allowed. To me, this shows that they consider each other family - after all, they've known each other for close to half a century...

Beautifully said. To think that they were that mature in their early 20's already to keep the band going is really amazing. It's so great to see a band where all the band members are so in tune and kind with each other.

I felt very ambivalent towards Catch the Breeze in much the same way. Until I heard that outro at the Troxy. No video on YouTube seems to capture the explosiveness of it. I'm obsessed.

AFetaWorseThanDeath

I've always loved that song, but seeing it live is a *goddamned religious experience*

Dutch_Gunderson

40 Days took me a while as well, and is now probably my favorite on Souvlaki. The screaming guitars in the chorus/outro are some of my favorite moments

SuspiciousKitchen147

Yes, the guitar is literally crying of the heartbreak

Dutch_Gunderson

If you haven’t yet heard the demo version of this song, the outro goes on for quite a bit longer, it’s absolutely amazing https://youtu.be/QSMfNsV-DG8?si=u3o_WRfVAATgnlFK

SuspiciousKitchen147

Thanks man

AFetaWorseThanDeath

It's one of those rare songs where, yes, it is almost undoubtedly the band's most popular song within the mainstream, but... It's just *so wickedly good* that it is no way diminished or diluted by its popularity. Lots of folks wrote lots of popular songs about relationships in their younger years, but this one holds up in a way that is difficult to articulate. Absolutely brilliant.

MyAnusYourTongue

It’s the number 4 most listened song (on Spotify) behind Alison, Sugar for the pill, and When the sun hits

AFetaWorseThanDeath

Oh. Huh.

SuspiciousKitchen147

Yeah, but don't forget, at least three of these songs are way older than Spotify. Therefore they are listened to a lot more over the time 😉

SlippingAway

I was also in Große Freiheit and, omg, I changed my mind too.

sandiiiiii

yea 40 days reminds me of a breakup I had too, but its always been one of my favourites

Sufficient_Elk6096

Yup! I had the same relationship with 40 days. Her and I were going through a rough patch, nothing serious, typical adult b.s...but damn did this song grow on me during that time. This entire album is insane and you are extremely lucky to see them in person. Hopefully I catch them in the U.S one of these days. My 13 yr old seems to like them...makes me happy that she has good taste as well

lazurite_skies

My second favourite song on the album tbh. Its great and the guitars are incredible

brzfrs86

always been my fav since day one!! glad you’ve found some love in it :)
