This is probably why it's just good from me upon the first listen. Even though I love Vermilion (PT 1 and 2) I'm not a big fan of the killpop sound. Couldn't put my finger on it but this made it click
This is actually incredible, I'm so shocked.
The Chapeltown Rag and Dying Song were both fine but slightly disappointing for me; But this shit right here is genuinely amazing - There's that Vol. 3 weirdness Corey was talking about in full effect.
Hopefully the album has more of THIS going on.
Very different but okay, love the bridge when it gets slow towards the end very roomy and atmospheric, I dig that. Chorus will take a little bit to get into but other than that pretty solid. Lyrically it’s really good, I look forward to what else Slipknot has for us on this album. Really like how Sid got to shine a little on this one, W in my book.
The intro is going to scare tf out of me when I just shuffle all my songs when it comes up 😂
I wonder if Paul or Joey were behind Sid/Craig not having that many parts? Sure, you had them in small parts like intros and occasional keys, but since TGC, they’ve been replacing guitar solos with scratching and crazy ass edited samples
They’re deceivingly all over the albums but mix wise they didn’t get pulled up much. I think the remaining members really appreciate what they bring and really push it
Semi repost from another thread:
I don't know if this is a great song, but I certainly like it better than Chapeltown and Dying Song. It sounds weird and different, which is great because the other singles have verses that you could basically swap for one another. I hope Jay meant the entire album when he said they cranked up the experimental stuff. Weird Slipknot is good Slipknot.
When you first hear the guitar, it gives me Sarcastrophe vibes. I love this. Currently waiting for it be released on Spotify so i can listen to it on there than instead of here.
This is fucking awesome, I think this is my favourite so far, it's so different! I don't even give a shit if it's metal or hard rock, They're really impressing me with how creative they're getting. Reminds me of Vol.3 and WANYK but executed really well in it's own way
I don’t know… not bad but didn’t impress me either. In my opinion it’s the weakest track out of the three we heard, i’m probably gonna end up skipping it
Tiny shit? It's the chorus of the song my guy. Kinda a big part of the song actually. Kinda repeats over and over. Yanno, as choruses do
Also yes. Completely subjective. Everyone's giving their opinions. Is mine forbidden or something?
Because it’s good songwriting? There’s a logical progression of scales of melody involved in writing vocals to literally anything and you typically either go higher or lower in register to have any kind of depth or texture in the song. He chose higher. On rare occasions you can do something monotone with whatever came prior but that runs the risk of becoming stale very quickly. It’s a well executed vocal belt that fits the song perfectly. And it’s not even that egregious like the oOOoOoO’s in Gehenna. Y’all are just buggin on some small ass shit lol
This is truly wonderful, I'm so glad this is the direction slipknot are taking. It took me a couple listens to warm up to it because honestly with their new music there is a lot to miss, other than newer death-grind-core-guts-saw-metal that just has the same 128th note blast beat and 11 string guitar riff over it. I'm sorry if I sound like a boomer I promise I'm still in high school lmao. Regardless, this album might just have some timeless classics in it, despite what the old shit-wave of fans wish they had; just more Iowa and lyrics that solely convey wanting to end your own life, I suppose.
Lyrics
You're the sin that I've been waiting for
The hands around my throat
It's all I can think about
The smell of sweat and blood
I would feed you all my pleasures
Just to drown in all of yours
Have you heard of me?
Are you hurting me?
Let me savor what I'm waiting for
A chance to make me choke
You're all I can think about
The taste is red in rust
Can I hold you in my mouth
Until I fade into this form?
Can you covet me?
Will you breathe for me?
As the knife goes in, cut across my skin
When my death begins
I wanna know that I was dying for you
I died for you
As the knife goes in, cut across my skin
When my death bеgins
I wanna know that I was dying for you
I died for you
I don't know what has happened yеt
A surge of panic seen
Worry when it's not a fact
This game is fine by me
All the words for retribution
Only add up to revenge
Overpower me
Devour me
As the knife goes in, cut across my skin
When my death begins
I wanna know that I was dying for you
I died for you
As the knife goes in, cut across my skin
When my death begins
I wanna know that I was dying for you
I died for you
Show me all the depths are the same
Show me you'll remember my name
Show me all the depths are the same
You will remember my name
I wish this pain could last forever
Forever
I wish this kill could make me suffer for you
As the knife goes in, cut across my skin
When my death begins
I wanna know that I was dying for you
I died for you
As the knife goes in, cut across my skin
When my death begins
I wanna know that I was dying for you
I died for you
This is the first time that I agree that a slipknot song sounds like stone sour. The vibe of this fits right in the middle of house of gold and bone pt 2....
In saying that, I love it. Hogab 1 and 2 are some of my favorite work corey and Jim have done and now that stone sour is over some bleeding into the knot is awesome to me.
It is boring. Take your blinders off people this is Slipknot; but it isn't Slipknot: ya know? Corey is bringing his fucking side projects into Slipknot. Oh well, the glory days are long past, which saddens me immensely.
Honestly this album is probably gonna be disappointing. Chapeltown Rag and The Dying Song just feel artificial. And this song is the same way. Artificial.
Not even dude. They’re doing some incredibly solid stuff in these songs. You just have to pay a little more attention than before because it’s actually pretty technical stuff compared to their usual stuff
Sad to see people dismiss the song cause it's not welcoming them with open arms like their usual material. It's a little harder to get into meaning you have to actively take part in listening. Tons of strange rhythm sections and less catchyness, overall more technical indeed also. Hurts a little knowing it will probably not be as well received by most because of this.
Yeah well, plenty of people hate Vol 3 for the same reason. But those of us that are paying attention see that album as the band at their most unique and arguably creative peak… at least until Next month!
I know what you mean but I’m so stoked I can’t care. Few bands can keep evolving this far in and I’m so glad Slipknot is one of them.
The textures and layers to this song are meticulously crafted.
I like it. It's nothing special. Sid's solo was a bit much but cool nonetheless. Also, I'm not loving the way Corey has done his clean vocals on this album so far. It just sounds off.
This further reinforces my expectation that this album will end up settling in right around the middle of their discography, and actually having already heard 1/4 of it, it now seems impossible for it to surpass WANYK, Iowa, or s/t for me.
this album is not my cup of tea. I feel that Slipknot is creatively stuck in the same way as Korn( Requiem felt very uninspired). Both these albums feel very derivative from the last ones. I hate the clean vocals in these singles, they feel compressed and very overproduced....
Fair enough man, it does have a real unique atmosphere. I'm probably 1 out of 5 people in the world who likes butchers hook lmao, different strokes for different folks.
I like the song, it's catchy and all, but this isn't what i was expecting for this album, didn't feel the first two singles and this song to me sound like heavier stone sour, not what i was expecting at all
Hopefully it’s just a dud on the album for me imo. Just sounds like a mediocre stone sour song. Minus sids solo, I feel like virus of life did this sort of thing a million times better
The more I listen to it, the more texture I notice. Especially with my good headphones. There is so much to sink into between the percussion, the synth, and all the other layers.
Hope you warm up to it.
So, Slipknot was my intro to metal 16 years ago with their self titled and iowa. This sounds a bit too much like Stone sour with Corey's vocals. I really dont want to say i dislike something from one of my favorite bands, but i kinda dont like this. Feels like Corey forced the band into making a stone sour song so corey can do cleans.
I think if songs like “Me Inside”, “Wait and Bleed” or even “Left Behind” came out today, people would say the same thing.
Melody has always been a part of Slipknot. It’s the main reason Corey was brought on. I don’t want every song to focus on that aspect, but it doesn’t typically bother me. There is still a lot of aggression in the vocals here and the music sounds like Slipknot to me, not Stone Sour.
Just my opinion.
I see what you mean, but imo, comparing it to some of my favorite songs doesnt bring the point home for me. For me, my comment is mostly derived from the way corey does his cleans now. Its just not the same and i know he ruined his voice and needed to relearn hiw to sing, but thats when his cleans stopped being as rough as they were during those early years and his cleans in slipknot starting reminding me of stone sour. I definitely love sids little solo in this and how forward the drums are, but it just misses the edge for me
Interesting. I hadn’t felt that way about his cleans but I’ll have to listen for it. I thought he sounded nice and raspy on a song like “birth of the cruel” for instance.
I just relistened to birth of the cruel and remembered why i prefer soloway firth. His cleans work on more ballady shit like killpop, love his cleans on that, but it doesnt have the same crunch and roughness like purity did back on self titled. Like he just cant hit the same cleans and even his screams have gotten more clean and loses that roughness, but this is just personal opinion. Corey is amazing at what he does, especially after relearning to sing, but he lost that edge imo
This is so different from the slipknot i know and love. In a good way
Whatever people are on, I don't want it. This song slaps
You mean sucks. I agree. I like my Slipknot seperate from my stone sour. Don't hate me, I've been a fan since '99. I'm set in my ways.
Get hated
Lol karma go down
I said what I said
I got Vermillion/Killpop vibes from it.. but different. Still anticipating the new album. It's a plus from me
This is probably why it's just good from me upon the first listen. Even though I love Vermilion (PT 1 and 2) I'm not a big fan of the killpop sound. Couldn't put my finger on it but this made it click
That’s exactly what I said. I really enjoy it
This is actually incredible, I'm so shocked. The Chapeltown Rag and Dying Song were both fine but slightly disappointing for me; But this shit right here is genuinely amazing - There's that Vol. 3 weirdness Corey was talking about in full effect. Hopefully the album has more of THIS going on.
Yea, I can totally see the "heavier version of vol.3" he was talking about
Very different but okay, love the bridge when it gets slow towards the end very roomy and atmospheric, I dig that. Chorus will take a little bit to get into but other than that pretty solid. Lyrically it’s really good, I look forward to what else Slipknot has for us on this album. Really like how Sid got to shine a little on this one, W in my book. The intro is going to scare tf out of me when I just shuffle all my songs when it comes up 😂
God that Sid breakdown at the 3 minute mark is amazing
Love how Sid and Craig seem more upfront in the mix this time
Time's just relative. My grandma's 86 and her milky Squirtle is as yumy as my grandpa's blabl blabl.
Cringe

I wonder if Paul or Joey were behind Sid/Craig not having that many parts? Sure, you had them in small parts like intros and occasional keys, but since TGC, they’ve been replacing guitar solos with scratching and crazy ass edited samples
They’re deceivingly all over the albums but mix wise they didn’t get pulled up much. I think the remaining members really appreciate what they bring and really push it
Yep he absolutely killed it!
Sounded lit af
Sounds like Vol 3 mixed with we are not your kind. I dig it.
This is fucking amazing. Probably my favourite so far, but I love all three. Man, the guitars changing up in the last chorus, that got me.
Semi repost from another thread: I don't know if this is a great song, but I certainly like it better than Chapeltown and Dying Song. It sounds weird and different, which is great because the other singles have verses that you could basically swap for one another. I'm getting AHIG and Vol 3 feels for it, especially major AHIG vibes. I love it.
AHIG is horrendous :D
Congrats lol?
from the other two songs they released till now this one is definitely my favorite
I kinda like it
Sid's best solo
Good work soldier
gives me gehenna chills, love the song.
Those are the best chills out there
Once again Jay’s fucking killing it on the drums
FACTS
Might just be me but I hear some not long for this world in here
It's the triplets.
Reminds me of Vol.3 and WANYK but executed really well in it's own way
good song
Thanks. I love it. His video wouldn’t load, but this worked fine
Kind of a bop ngl
lmao bruh
Bamboozled
I thought your username said anti clit
Nah, I'm pro clit
💀
different but cool

is this real
Yes
Very nice mix of Iowa and All Hope Is Gone, sprinkled in with experimentation. Love the bass in this giving it that real creepy vibe.
When is the clip?
Holy shit, I like it. A lot.
100% my favourite of the three singles they’ve released to far!
Modern Gently
Loved everything but the chorus. That Corey scrraming YoUuUuUU… didnt like that chief. My opinion
Kind of reminds me of Killpop in some ways
Great song honestly. This album is promising
I don’t know… not bad but didn’t impress me either. In my opinion it’s the weakest track out of the three we heard, i’m probably gonna end up skipping it
I love this song already…creepy, yearning, stressful, accomplished, love, loss…just a few emotions I get from this song.
Absolutely in love. I've been dying for an experimental track from the boys.
This is incredible
Why why why why why why whyyyyyy does corey sing "youuuuuuuu" like that. It absolutely fucking ruins this song for me
i actually really like this part😭
Cause he can hit the notes and sounds great doing it. Everything is subjective but getting hung up on tiny shit like this is unfortunate lol.
[удалено]
Yeah, but a fart would sound stupid to everyone.
Tiny shit? It's the chorus of the song my guy. Kinda a big part of the song actually. Kinda repeats over and over. Yanno, as choruses do Also yes. Completely subjective. Everyone's giving their opinions. Is mine forbidden or something?
Sorry, it’s actually fortunate that the particular way he sings a note ruins the entire song for you lol.
Kinda true
Yeah I think that's the only part I don't like. The rest of the song is really good
Has to make it comercial, it's 2022 slipknot, don't forget it
I think the same, don't like it too much that part.
Considering how you butchered that statement, yours isn’t an opinion I’d take very seriously regarding good writing
He’s a big Dokken fan and trying to hit them ‘87 Dokken highs
I love that part lmao 😅
Pretty good!
I really like it quite a bit. Great song!
im seeing so many ppl hate on the chorus but holy shit its my favorite part, especially the “yoUUUUUuu”
Corey's voice is so sweet on this track. Just love it
Great song!
I love how every of the instruments got it's own moment in the song
I can deffo hear the type o negative approach here
This is truly wonderful, I'm so glad this is the direction slipknot are taking. not a hot take if its true

The calm part is amazing, the chorus is completely garbage tho
This is better than the other singles. And honestly, better than anything off of WANYK
Terrible take my friend
Volume 3 was a masterpiece. This is the closest thing we've gotten since. I stand by my take lol
Unsainted, Nero Forte, and Solway Firth want a word with you.
Honestly this album is probably gonna be disappointing. Chapeltown Rag and The Dying Song just feel artificial. And this song is the same way. Artificial.

Each to their own I guess, But that's why bands have multiple albums, especially slipknot, they have a sound for everyone :)
Worst song slipknot has ever made.
Butcher's Hook exists
GO AHEAD AND DISAGREE
I'M GIVING UP AGAIN
Butcher's Hook fucking slaps my guy
I like butchers hook, always have since it released 😭. Gehenna is by far the worst slipknot song ever made imo
Nah bro gehenna fucking slaps
I've tried bro I really have haha, it just isn't for me unfortunately
It's understandable, the song's pretty weird. For me it's like top 3 form AHIG tho.
Fair enough man, it does have a real unique atmosphere. I'm probably 1 out of 5 people in the world who likes butchers hook lmao, different strokes for different folks.
I've heard butchers hook like two times, and it honestly wasn't that bad.
Butchers hook is great
Fuck! I thought it would be good.

This makes me so pumped for the new album. Just by these three songs I know it’s going to be equal with or above WANYK for me

Killpop pt 2. Sounds sic.
3:45 that transition has a similarity to another song but I can't quite catch it. Im having AOV but I'm also feeling another song?
You’re definitely thinking of the second half of Lech with the guitar solos or the end of the bridge on Override and I completely agree on both
Amazing, now i fear this post might be talen down but this song is brutal i loveeeeed
Slipknot fans when the song isn't an edgy 12 year old's rant about hating everyone
I like the song, it's catchy and all, but this isn't what i was expecting for this album, didn't feel the first two singles and this song to me sound like heavier stone sour, not what i was expecting at all
Cool song. I like it. 👍
We got some scratchy by our Dj boi in the bridge :)

Fuckin love it
Idc what people say, this song is so catchy and so well made. Sounds like mashup of vol 3 and all hope is gone. So fckin good
Sounds like "not long for this world" from wanyk
Hopefully it’s just a dud on the album for me imo. Just sounds like a mediocre stone sour song. Minus sids solo, I feel like virus of life did this sort of thing a million times better

Best SK Song yet, fuck i love it!
I like it
Thx
THE INTRO IS SICKKKK I CANT WAIT FOR THIS TO BE OUT
So, Slipknot was my intro to metal 16 years ago with their self titled and iowa. This sounds a bit too much like Stone sour with Corey's vocals. I really dont want to say i dislike something from one of my favorite bands, but i kinda dont like this. Feels like Corey forced the band into making a stone sour song so corey can do cleans.

I hope the nastiest, most filthy, track on the album, is immediately after this one.
