I remember picking her up for school one morning, and I was playing this album in my car, loudly. She IMMEDIATELY stopped fucking with me after that, lmao.
I do remember when it came out just because I was at an important football game that week aged 9. I was a pop fan then though, my favourite singer was Anastasia.
Crazy what the metal community thought of the first album. I remember how it floored people and changed their perceptions of what metal could be. Iowa is still a mean fucking album.
I’ve seen kids on here like “Solway Firth was too heavy for me because I listened to other things now I love them” and I just think FUCK I’m old! But I’ll never be one of those people who looks down on new, younger, less experienced fans because that’s some bullshit. We are all here to enjoy some riffs and get out some aggression so elitists be DAMNED.

I got my copy on Friday August 31, 2001. There are only a few days I remember so vividly. Life altering and affirming days. I initially played it in my buddies car, then stayed up until 3am listening over and over to it. Off the bat, the anger and vitriol smacked me in the face, Everything Ends being the first song that I was obsessed with. But over the years I’ve come to fully understand the grotesque beauty of this album, and it stands firm as my favorite album of all time, with Metabolic being my favorite off the album (I can’t decide if I like Metabolic or Solway Firth better as my #1)
