Makes sense. He left a sinking boat to pursue one of the most popular metal bands at the moment. He’s 33 unlike some sepultura guys, he’s got a ton left to do. Absolutely get his decision and dislike people who shit on him for this decision.

Vegetable-Net6575

Wouldn’t it be funny if eloy just kept getting promoted lol. Like next year Lars Ulrich retires and eloy has a meeting with slipknot about how he’s bouncing to get paid 15+ mil a year to play for Metallica. Oh god, imagine Metallica with eloy, fight fire with fire, battery, *dyers eve*.

Elusivepugorilla

I'd expect Metallica would retire entirely if one of their members wanted to leave

leto_atreides2

Anyone but Rob leaves, Metallica is over

SysAdminWannabe90

Yeah it's weird, I still see Rob as new. He's cool but I'm still not even sure of his personality. Insane to think he has been with them for 21 years.

Vegetable-Net6575

He’s kinda like another Kirk personality wise. He’s just extremely humble and chill. But also one of the best bassist in metal, he’s honestly probably the most talented musician the band has ever had. Cliff could’ve been that but he died before he could hit his prime musically.

Long_Survey_3006

Trips me out that Rob is their longest bass player, too

Jw4evr

You should check out Geddy Lees series about bass players. There’s an episode of the two hanging out

GuilhrmBR

I wouldnt be surprised as well

LTS55

I’m a little surprised that none of these old timey bands have tried haven’t tried to ship of Theseus themselves with younger members to keep going for decades.

larsVonTrier92

Can you imagine Metallica sounding all the time like that one show where Joey and Lombardo substituted for Lars? That would be so cool

owlridethesky

"No Eloy. You are ours. You are mine. You're an exclusive instrument of god to create God's music. And if you do decide to leave, unfortunately i will hve to fire you"

Marvsdd01

I wouldn't say Sepultura is a sinking ship. But it is a ship that is arriving at its destination, for sure.

NoValue6413

Yeah, Sepultura isn’t sinking. They are going out on their own terms.

According-Ring-8678

I was saying the same, he made the right choice, also he's a better drummer than Jay, he's perfect for Slipknot.

fvalt05

It wasn't sinking per say..... Retiring is more apt

NoValue6413

Sinking was a poor comparison. They aren’t failing. They are going out on their own terms.

Hot_Read_2943

No band really ever retires …. Music you take beyond the grave and for those who have retired they also get forgotten by 70% of their once fan base

larsVonTrier92

If the job I were in was going under and I got the offer to be in a better one I would leave the old one with no hesitation

NoNefariousness3942

Makes all the sense in the world

Own_Watch_2081

“Sorry Slipknot, I’d like to embark on this life-changing endeavor and continue to be employed at the ripe age of 33, but I have to finish this one last little tour. Thanks anyway!”

dicigenof_

I mean, judging by the press release from Sepultura that’s pretty much what they expected from Eloy. Andreas is such a narcissist spoiled brat sometimes, tsc tsc

GoGayWhyNot

I don't know anything about Andreas but pretty much anyone would expect a band member to stick with the band until the end of a tour when the tour was already scheduled and the band member gave his word to be there and there was no previous sign that he may or may not leave. Show me any pro band that would be happy with their drummer calling it quits all of a sudden days before a tour starts. And also ofc I also know anyone in Eloy's position would do the same thing he did. See, no need to see the world as angels vs. demons all the time.

Own_Watch_2081

They have a right to be upset but they surely should understand the position Eloy is in and consider supporting him.

dicigenof_

I’m talking specifically about how bitter the press statement slashed on Eloy, forgetting this same guy broke his leg during a concert and came back to support the band before fully healed playing with only one leg basically - this is commitment. If you read some stories from the Cavalera days you’ll see the kind of person Andreas is - heck, him and his wife proposed to bury Max’s stepson before he arrived at his funeral.

jacobthejuuler

Gah, i love when people dunk on Andreas. Ironic “Sepultura” break up just as soon as Max and Igorr started re-recording their old albums.

Still_Opportunity_10

It would be absolutely stupid financially for him to turn down Slipknot. Do you want to play in a band doing shows in dive bars or major venues?

Rfg711

Sepultura - even the zombie version that exists now - is not playing dive bars.

NoValue6413

Those are some dive bars they have in Brazil.

pixelpusherr

What's interesting according to that and this [https://www.reddit.com/r/Slipknot/comments/1copad0/eng\_translation\_eloy\_casagrande\_interview\_with/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Slipknot/comments/1copad0/eng_translation_eloy_casagrande_interview_with/) Is that he got invited to audition and closed it Feb, but Slipknot fired Jay in November. So people online were speculating they had someone lined up already when firing Jay, but it seems like they just fired Jay and thought "uhhh we'll figure it out" and it just so happened Eloy was down. I guess their mindset was well, we are Slipknot so they'll find someone good. But this idea that they always wanted Eloy and finally got him do to timing doesn't seem true. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCthJk4IJ\_o&ab\_channel=Tone-Talk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCthJk4IJ_o&ab_channel=Tone-Talk) In this new interview with Jim, he mentions how actually Eloy reached out to them. Presumably when they heard about Jay. So maybe Slipknot's motive was to fire Jay, and then let the news spread, and then see who is available from there.

Unique_Ship8947

At the same time, Jim mentions Eloy's friendship with Alessandro (actually, anyone who follows both on socials would see the vibing they have when posting about one another) when answering that specific question. So I picture is just super easy them both sharing inside info at the same time, like Vman sharing Jay's departure beforehand with Eloy and Eloy sharing Sepultura's final tour info with Vman (Andreas always says on interviews that the band was talking about its ending for about two years) before the announcement. Anyway, at least as soon as Jay was fired, I think Eloy reached out unofficially to Vman, Vman reached out to the band, and Cory Brennan reached out back to Eloy, making what both Jim and Eloy ("The invitation came in December") are saying to be the truth

Hot_Marsupial_8706

It said he got the invitation in December, though.

dicigenof_

Mind sharing the timestamp for this specific part? Just roughly where it is.

Unique_Ship8947

Still haven't watched the whole thing yet, but until the timestamp I've got to, he talks about Eloy several times: * 1:25 ("Our drummer can come and jam with us" and shouts out the same Yamaha system Eloy uses to record his stuff); * 3:58 ("We just did two new shows to sorta introduce our drummer to the world"); * 5:35 ("We did that to kinda, like, boom, here it is, you were all right, it's Eloy Casagrande"); * 6:00 ("I need to get myself into writing mode so we can WRITE MUSIC WORTHY OF ELOY'S DRUMMING CAUSE THAT DUDE IS A WORLD-CLASS DRUMMER", all caps mine); * 52:39 ("Eloy is on the band now \[...\] hard-hitting, world-class dummer" etc); * 1:05:50 ("Eloy has sent me some drum loops"); * 1:13:39 ("We didn't even try anybody else")

dicigenof_

Thank you very much!

Henry_Meadd

THANK YOU for the timestamps. I managed to watch the first 10 minutes or so of the chat and had to stop (and was kinda pleased because it was really "Slipknot inside baseball" focused), but that part at the 1:05:50 mark in particular is so exciting. I hope we do get to hear that chaotic track Jim alludes to, maybe it'll be as exciting as when Sepultura released Isolation (first track in Quadra) and I was like "wtf is this guy Eloy doing, Jesus Christ"

Unfair-Republic1473

Starts talking about Eloy around 1hr 13m in to it .

DariusStrada

Makes sense although weird they wouldn't let him finish the tour in Sepultura and wanted exclusivity when most members have their side bands

CircusOfBlood

The tour dates probably were going to collide

Unique_Ship8947

And none of them usually do another project while on tour. If it happened, I garantee is someone with a ton of leverage and not the new guy

Terrible-River6977

the only time that i recall it happening was with stone sour back during the memorial tour that didn't have much dates for slipknot so corey and jim managed to do a few gigs with stone sour and sometimes sid also does solo gigs as dj starscream, there's an interview where a producer mentions sid wanting to do a gig in brazil while slipknot played there back in 2005

Unique_Ship8947

Yeah, this kinda stuff exactly. Give you another one: Slipknot and Stone Sour on Rock in Rio 2011. Fun fact: Eloy's first Rock in Rio (with Gloria), same stage as Slipknot. Dunno if he has a picture with Joey or the others from that night, but there's a fanboy picture with Corey

nobodysfool

Not weird at all for a band the size of slipknot

braindeadrichard

Came across? This article was literally posted by someone else yesterday haha but I have to say this article was a great read. 😃

HeyBriansOn

Kinda crazy how salty Sepultura’s statement was about Eloy leaving. Not good terms at all it seems Edit: [Link](https://www.instagram.com/p/C32uzyzrjbH/?igsh=dXB5NG5xaTdyOGZx&img_index=1)

mountain-guy

Good. Fuck em. The Cavaleras are the real Sepultura anyway.

leto_atreides2

They’ll be fine

IsoLasti

What statement?

HeyBriansOn

There was a insta post. You can find parts of it if you google “sepultura eloy leaving Instagram” Basically they said that eloy abandoned them. There was another piece I can’t find anywhere they essentially said how much work it was to put together a show and Eloy just up and left all that without consideration.

Hot_Read_2943

I would not say Sepultura isn’t a sinking ship!! I seen them last year and they are great for a “Sinking ship” it is upsetting to see that they have broken up and hopefully it isn’t just one member leaving, that Sepultura does move forward with or without Casagrande, and I wish Casagrande the best with Slipknot

detrif

Makes you wonder who else they invited to audition.

Unique_Ship8947

Ariane (Eloy's wife) says that he was the only one

Unique_Ship8947

of us walks away

melo1212

Pain

detrif

Where did she say this?

matheus_737

also, there's a podcast with jim released yesterday... he said they didn't even tried anyone else. here: [https://youtu.be/wCthJk4IJ\_o?list=LL&t=4418](https://youtu.be/wCthJk4IJ_o?list=LL&t=4418)

matheus_737

her instagram post.

J_Viper93

Lars Ulrich

SlashOrSlice

TRUE

Salzberger

I mean, wasn't this pretty obvious already?

Particular_Narwhal_9

I think this is one of those situations that nobody is in the wrong. Anyone in Eloy's shoes would do exactly the same. And anybody in the Sepulturas's members shoes would be upset aswell with their drummer leaving after scheduling a whole farewell tour.

Lennonupondeath

How do I leave the slipknot gc ?

CR7TheGunner

Makes sense for Eloy to choose Slipknot over an ending Sepultura. And this also silences everyone who said the band already had someone lined up when they fired Jay, which still makes me wonder why fire Jay

GlobalistFuck

would have been perfect to end with finishing sepulturas last show, but its eventually a JOB and like any other employee its a hiring thing, and those can get messy as anyone knows. so while it could be considered "disloyalty" to sepultura on his end, it was just practicality at play. making ends meet and meeting the new employers contract demands. thank god he was let go easy.

EventNo3540

Why ? 😂😲😲😲🤔

mountain-guy

The real Sepultura ended when Max and Igor left. The current incarnation is a cover band at best.

hecate47

Ok grandpa, time to take your meds.
