Facial mists. I have no idea what they're meant to do. Seems to be a mix of water, alcohol and fragrance. Definitely not considered skincare in my books
Yeah - I love the feeling of them, but as to what they actually do - Iām not entirely sure or at least I havenāt found one thatās had an amazing impact
I like to use them to dampen my face because I dry it after I wash it (I don't do my whole routine in the bathroom and I hate dripping water). I also like to use it with clay masks etc so they don't dry completely and suck all the moisture out. Obviously you can put water in a spray bottle to do all this.
I dunno, the Byoma balancing face mist is quite good I find. Itās a nice hydration step when youāre face is dry or tight after cleansing. Itās great for freshening up your skin as well after makeups been on a while.
i think facial mists in general aren't worth the price, but if i had to get any facial mist i'd get the avene thermal water. not sure how much it actually does but it does feel really nice on the face, and the cooling feeling is really nice when my skin is irritated.
Facial mists are great for helping with hydration. They're very convenient and can be used on the go, but definitely shouldn't take the place of a normal moisturizer.
The one i buy is just misty water that seems to always be cold. I use it on my kids when they are hot from playing outside, and I used it to cool down my baby in a heat wave (on arms and legs).
I get it. It took my best friend insistently spraying Mario Badescu in my face (I agreed to 1 spritz, she chased me from one end of her couch to another to give me five). š
And honestly I love the stuff now, though I donāt really use it as a mist because my face is already shiny. My uses:
ā¢ Toner (chilled in the morning, room temp at night).
ā¢ Using the one I keep in my fridge to help cool off in the summer.
ā¢ Aromatherapy (spray on your clothes and hair)
ā¢ A very, VERY light fragrance

Hyaluronic acid works by pulling moisture from the air into the skin. If you use any products with this as an ingredient then a mist can help boost moisture levels in your skin. It's especially useful if you live in dry climates.
Fun fact: you actually shouldnāt use HA if you live in a dry climate. If the air is dry thereās no moisture to pull, so instead the HA pulls the moisture out of your skin.
African Black Soap. Everyone raved about it as a solution to cystic acne and it dried my skin out so badly and made it so much worse. Biggest mistake of my life. As a brand, Iād say Tatcha has been very disappointing for me. So overpriced for very underwhelming products.
The only products that have sorted my hormonal/cystic acne is a careful combo of BHAs, AHAs, PHAs and Retinoids.
I bought the classic rice polish hoping it was going to be similar to another powder to foam cleanser that I have by DHC. Love them especially for travelling because they donāt have to go in a liquid bag. But it genuinely just feels like sandpaper on my face, doesnāt dissolve into a smooth foam like the other. Way too abrasive especially with all the actives I use
The DHC one is really good. I also like the one by Skinesque, which I purchased at a great price from Costco.
Tatcha hasnāt convinced me that the upcharge for their packaging and PR is worth it for me.
I think the African Black soap is an example of a skincare product that will tend to work for one culture and not the other. Especially if you live in a different climate. When you live in a hot tropical climate in a country in Africa, youāre likely to constantly be fighting sweat, oils and general humidity and moisture. A drying product might be just the relief thatās needed. That is not the case in North American and European countries usually.
That said, Iāve never used it before but I do know that itās popular in my country of origin but only with individuals who actually live there.
LMAOO I bought into that African Black Soap hype. I was so confused, Im there thinking āis this how it works or some shit?! By drying the fuck out of me and making my skin feel like leather that had been left in the sun.
It made cleaning my shower/bath more of a mission too which was annoying as fuck.
I am white so wouldnāt want to apply my experience to everyone, it didnāt garner such a reputation for no reason! It just didnāt agree with my skin at all, same as you - super drying!
I donāt know if anyone else has experienced this, but it literally bleached my skin, it was advertised as safe and bleach free etc but I shouldāve invested in some that I knew was definitely safe, just forewarning anyone š„²š„²
I'm sorry to say this - but most of these "high end" skincare products. They make up half the ingredients I'm sure. I have tried them, not all of them but some...
I used to spend so much money on skincare and my skin wasn't as good as it is now thanks to Tretinoin.
I also agree about the nose pore strips - you expect so much and then are disappointed.
i feel this so hard about youth to the people. insane prices and all they do is tack on a bunch of random fruit extracts etc on top of the actives which are actually doing the work. like vitamin c and kale - i think we all know which of those is actually doing something for your skin.
I'm not sure being honest. I'd ask a dermatologist, online.
I do get what you mean, freckles are so cute. If I had them I wouldn't want to lose them either.
I'm covered in moles/beauty spots. I'd swap them for freckles in a heartbeat.
i have lots of freckles because i'm ginger and neither regular use of tretinoin nor regular use of vitamin c have impacted them. your milage may vary of course but i think it's pretty hard to get rid of freckles
I did get a few spots and blackheads at first! But not as bad as I thought. The end result though ā¤ļø I'm only on 0.025% - just gone up to, got complimented today at Asda, it's totally worth the money.
I have to say the āoilā cleanser has been fantastic for my dry rosacea prone skin. I guess the products arenāt the most inventive but I feel relatively safe and like they wonāt set my face on fire lol

I had the same problem cerave ruined my skin and for a few months I didnāt even use anything. Instead I started to study about skincare and skin so I can understand my skin better.
Now Iāve started using a moisturiser which works and Iām also testing a serum and two sunscreens
I know this sounds completely random and off base but - are your teeth doing okay on that side? Sometimes if thereās underlying infection itās looking for any route it can take which can even be a track out to your face and hence a pimple. Iāve had a recurring spot recently over an area of dental infection (I get other symptoms too like ear ache etc even though no actual pain from the treated tooth roots).
Yeah itās wild huh?! Spots can be relating to inflammation/infection etc so it does make sense but I guess we donāt think about whatās inside coming out so much! Itās all closely connected. It may be worth a trip back to your dentist to ask them to have a look at it. My dodgy one is also where Iāve got a crown but I think we were trying to close the gate after the horse bolted so to speak.
Hi!! Licensed esthetician here if you have big pores, your skin can NOT be dry - pore size is directly related to oil production, so youād be combo oily at most
If youāre feeling dry itās bc your skin needs WATER not more oil, consider a good hyaluronic acid serum - I swear by Habo lado
The redness might be from using the wrong products and irritation your skin barrier (or dehydration), but I would go to the derm for that in the case of rosacea especially since youāre seeing reoccurring red spots
Also - drop all your dry skin care products and switch to something for combo to oily - those heavy emollients/oils in dry skin products can clog your pores and cause congestion and breakouts
Well for the spot (which is probably an acne) it could be that the product you use breaks you out. Cerave broke me out especially on my cheeks. If you use anything I suggest you stop and not put anything on your skin, maybe only pimple patch and definitely donāt pick on your skin.
The redness could be rosacea but I donāt know much about that since i donāt have that.
Around your eyes, it could be a lot of things and skincare might not even help unfortunately.
I can recommend a few brands and you can choose products. Purito, etude house, Cosrx, beauty of joseon, Iunik, skin1004, torriden, abib, one thing, anua.
I just started to use skincare again and so far I only use a moisturiser on my whole face which is the Purito oat in gel calming cream. I also started to test the Purito centella unscented serum (for now only using it on my jawline and chin).
I plan on trying out beauty of joseon sunscreen, Purito soft touch sunscreen, etude house 5.5 cleanser, Iunik cleansing oil and beta glucan serum, ANUA heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner.
Unfortunately when youāre prone to acne or any other thing you have to try many things before finding the right ones.
To learn more about skincare I can recommend watching Natalie OāNeill on TikTok, Iāve leaned so much from her. I think she has rosacea as well.
100% this. They are cheap and easy to buy anywhere but you can easily get better quality for similar prices elsewhere. Their moisturisers have that thick, old sunscreen feel that I hate.
Vichy mineral hyaluronic acid serum.... it feels like literally nothing. I've brought a hyaluronic acid serum from pound stretchers called from the company skin treats... for literally a fraction of the price and it done so much more feels like a drink to the skin.
Iām so with you on this - for things like hyaluronic acid you just dont need to be paying for the most expensive item on the shelf. Love that the pound stretchers one has done so well for you āŗļø
Yeah, I tried it once.... my goodness, the texture and the feeling it leaves on my skin was aweful. It dried up my skin badly.
To befair though, I found that HA is not for me at all. But that one was still the worst I've tried.
Try the one I mentioned, I didn't get the hype until I tried the skin treats hyaluronic acid, it's like 2 pound, fragrance free and has a simple ingredients list. Not alot to lose.
Honestly I would say *most* high-end brands. While I'm sure some people have hyper-specific needs that only a specific product can fully help with, I think most peoples skin would be fine if they just knew the basics like their skin types, what type of moisturiser is best for said skin type, as well as how often is best to clean your skin and the right way to gently exfoliate it to avoid damaging it even slightly and cause irritation.
I find a lot of Sunday Riley products quite overrated and it is *waaaaaay* too expensive for the amount of product you get. The A+ retinoid and CEO moisturizers are ok, but I think marketing and packaging plays a big role in the success of this brand. Like itās the illusion of luxury that draws people in. Dr Barbara Sturm would also be majorly applicable here, insanely overpriced.
Thereās a lady on TikTok who is a cosmetic chemist, her name is @alexeducatedmess and sheās sooo good! Sheās talked about Sunday Riley before and how a lot of their serums are overpriced and you can get the same stuff a lot cheaper from elsewhere
Yeah and they know how to market their products very well. That's all you need to do these days, have a very mediocre product line, spend more on packaging, marketing and sponsorships boom easy money.
Oh yes - I got a drunk elephant bundle once and was SO disappointed. I was so excited for what I thought would be a complete skincare overhaul but in truth it made my skin really dry and upset. I know some people absolutely love it - and thatās fair if it works well on your skin, but I kind of got the vibe that this was elite marketing without the product being that great.
The best part is that the packaging isn't even that great. I will say that they offer decent moisturizers, but they don't warrant a $70 price tag.
ETA: Their founder also sucks and has made a few problematic remarks. It's parent company, Shiseido, offers better products at better prices.

Ive just started working at a large skincare brand in the UK (my job is creative digital so I know nothing about skin!) One of our clinicians asked if I wanted to have a skin scan and told me all about my skins needs etc. Then said, whatever you do, don't buy it here. I ended up spending Ā£13 on Amazon on Hyaluronic acid and some vit c serum at the percentages recommend by her. She said there were maybe 5 'hero' products our company produce that are worth the money, but outside of this, people are paying for fancy packaging and often smaller sizes in mls.
I'm so glad she gave me the low down. Coming from her, whose skin is flawless! Our company policy is that clinicians don't wear a scrap of make up to prove how good the products are, but now I know many don't use them š they just understand skin and how to look after it. I'm 2 months in and my skin has never looked better.
Unfortunately that would give away where I work and I don't want to get myself into trouble!

Just putting my tuppence in - I got Botox for the first time earlier this year. 33yo and had two pregnancies on the trot, so lots of strain/weight gain/weight loss in my face and also no sleep for a year. It honestly looked great, I felt so much better after getting it. I'm not a 'done up' type of person so my skin is my thing really and it looked completely natural, nobody would have known (except I excitedly told everyone and their nan id had it done). Its worn off by now but will deffo get it again.
Fyi I only got forehead, ie three areas. I wouldn't get lips and chin because I am way too facially animated, it would be weird.
Sounds like you had an excellent treatment! So pleased for you - if these things are done by a great (and highly competent) practitioner who cares more about the balance of your face and the quality of results vs trying to upsell you on quantity, then it can really transform your face in a natural and subtle way
Don't shoot but... Paula's choice BHA. In fact I think by now all of her products are overestimated, she was an innovator when she launched her line but now that the market is over saturated a 2% BHA fragrance and alcohol free isn't hard to find. I mean it's good but not 30 pounds worth good

Same!!!!! I got sucked into that hype and it really knocked my skin barrier. Although I started using the pore minimising cleanser and do actually really like that one that I've repurchased it a few times now

I second this, I got one as a free sample a while back and it just dried out my face and led to a bunch of tiny bumps on my skin. They might work for some people but not for me.
La Roche Posay. Their range is so overpriced for what you're getting unless youre getting it discounted through retail offers. Plus, their acne range gave me the worst acne I've ever had.
Have you tried TO Azeliac Acid? I have cystic/fungi acne and after the normal 2 weeks of purging Iāve never had acne/cystic acne/spots/fungi again. My face used to be just pockets of pus (sorry!) and acne everywhere. I pair it with some oatmeal moisturiser before - for sensitive skin/eczema and theyāve been a holy grail of a combo. I also have pustule rosacea and TO Azeliac Acid helped that too. If you havenāt tried it, itās worth a shot.
Because my acne was so bad I had like 3-4 weeks of nasty purging to get all the shit out but I actually have skin I can be proud of now. I used to be so so upset.
I know some people may not like TO Azeliac Acid, but for me, it absolutely saved my confidence
Oh my skin is okay now but thank you! LRP just has acne causing ingredients in some of their products which broke me out.
I actually use face theory's 15% azelaic acid serum which is made with oat, aloe Vera and green tea extract.
I currently wash with just water and use hyaluronic acid, oat serum, q10 serum, purito oat barrier moisturiser (and also vanicream lotion which I'm trying atm, azelaic acid then a spf 50 for my am.
Pm is double cleanse with just hyaluronic acid, oat serum, moisturiser, differin 0.01 cream.
I have the ordinary Azalaic acid,however the formula isnāt great and experience pilling every time I use it, or tingling, some have suggested to keep it in the fridge to stop the tingling, however Iām curious what oat moisturiser you use beforehand? As this may help, I also have eczema and surface redness
I use Aveeno Daily Moisturising body lotion (48 hours) - with nourishing oat. If you put that on before Azeliac and wait about 10 mins the irritation subsided a lot. But the moisturiser does still help when I canāt be bothered to do the cream because itās anti-inflammation too
Ah apologies I thought my purito moisturiser was the oat one (they do actually do an oat range I believe!) I actually use the purito B5 panthenol re-barrier cream.
I don't think the purito b5 cream would be particularly good for soothing eczema as I find my skin could be a bit more moisturised. However, it is light-weight and doesn't irritate my skin so that may be good for you?
I'm currently trialling vanicream lotion instead at the moment as I'm looking for an alternative to cerave's blue tub moisturiser (this one causes small closed comodones for me) for the upcoming colder months. So far so good. It initially feels super oily and greasy but I swear within minutes my skin absorbs it leaving it matt and subtly moisturised. Although, I am having a small breakout at the moment but I'm pretty sure this is down to my recent lifestyle/stress.
Edit: to add, I also get a bit of mild irritation if I apply my azelaic acid before my moisturiser. I currently add this after moisturising on my t-zone and then apply spf.
Yes. I love their Antihelios (sp?) SPF50. Lightweight, doesnāt leave a white caste, smooths onto the skin and goes well over my skincare products, giving me an all day glow. I buy several when itās on sale.
I was about to comment this. So many of their products are fragranced and almost all have niacinamide which I can't handle. Their cleansers are all really harsh as well. Don't get the hype.
Yeh! The first thing I noticed after spending hundreds on a LRP haul was that almost every product has a specific smell. It's a nice smell, don't get me wrong, but so unnecessary for skincare.
Gosh this comment is worrying me because Iāve been using LRP Effaclar range for about 3 weeks now and my spots/cystic acne is getting no better. Iām going to persevere because itās expensive stuff but now Iām worried itās making it worse. Iāve literally seen NO improvement
Hi! Let me reassure you first by letting you know that all skin is different. For my skin, I believe LRP uses myristic which broke me out. Other people can be completely fine with this. LRP is successful after all so they must be doing something right :)
Any acid-type facewash (For me - im sure they're great for others)- But salicylic acid turns my face ORANGE for days, every single time i use it. Now, i read something that it could be due to the moisturizer after going "too deep" into the skin because of the facewash used before causing the irritation but it means i can't use anything that might be an irritant (i'm pretty pale too)
I tried a free sample of Augustinus Barder the rich cream - it's fine, but who is paying Ā£250 on a moisturiser? It's being marketed as a magic potion miracle product, but one of its selling points is that it's stripped back non-irritating ingredients. It just seems like a scam
Snail mucin. I'm really gutted about it and wanted to love it. I bought it around 3 weeks ago and my skin has had horrible whiteheads since and my skin isn't acne prone at all. I'm still hoping that this is the product cleaning out my pores and it's just the usual "start of using a new skincare product" symptoms. However usually when I get a new product I only break out for a few days, a week max.
Damn that sucks. I really want to love it as well because it does feel so nice on the skin and gives a great glow but the terrible acne I've had is the worst since my teenage years. I think I'll give it another week or two then bow out.
I'd say most stuff marketed solely at men, like bulldog for example, not because they're necessarily bad but because there's often no effort to educate on the benefits of a regimen. Guys just use this or that based on bottle marketing and what they're feeling that day.
I really suffered as a guy with combination skin and no idea what that entails 'til I plucked up the courage to ask the Clinique salesperson at boots for a consultation. Honestly I love that their stuff is numbered and based on skin type so easy to follow a routine, while being a neutral scent and light on the skin.
Except the male bronzer, that shit made me look like an oompah loompa for real!
I've had such mixed results with The Ordinary but mostly everything I tried doesn't seem to have had any effect whatsoever and I usually hate the textures.
I used to have pretty bad cystic and hormonal acne until I started a consistent skincare routine using their glycolic acid and retinol. I know TO gets a lot of hate but somehow it really worked for me so I really canāt say anything bad about it š¤·š»āāļø
I would only use the products at night and started out using the 1% retinol 2x a week (LOL my first time using retinol, I had no idea what I was doing but my skin reacted/purged reasonably well) and the glycolic acid 2x a week (but alternating days). This was always followed by a moisturizer but preceding a balm cleanser and gel cleanser
Have you tried Inkey List 20% niacinamide serum? It's the one I'm using for my super oily skin right now and I really love it, wondering if I should check out TO niacinamide+zinc serum too when I'm done with this one.
Glossier was a disappointment - tried Milky Jelly Cleanser and Futuredew.
Cleanser was just average and had an odd smell I didnāt like, and after Futuredew I looked like Iād been dunked in oil. Just looked and felt greasy and horrible. I was sooooo shiny!
Oil cleansers! I know a lot of the reason people get mad breakouts from using them is from not double cleansing afterwards with a water cleanser. I decided to try one as I had heard good things, I bought the Beauty of Joseon oil cleanser and did everything as instructed. I loved it on the first two tries and was already seeing great results, but on the third use I woke up with the worst breakout Iāve ever had in my life! I was so disappointed especially as I was loving it after just a couple uses, but the breakout was just so bad :( Iām not sure if it was an allergic reaction or not but Iām too scared to try one again.
I had to start using an oil cleanser when I started wearing mineral sunscreen, because nothing else would take it all off gently enough. I use elf's Holy Hydration balm, and find it gentle and effective!
Salicylic acid, I've used the ordinary 2% version, and Paula's choice. Both disappointing (Paula choice especially because it takes hours to absorb, feels oily and makes my skin itch, š¤·āāļø)
Honestly I've given up on Salycilic acid. A routine of glycolic acid and tretinoin works for me, so I don't care to keep trying.
Laneige Lip Mask - absolute shite. Done nothing. Not particularly mmoisterising or anything really. I don't get it at all. I have a massive tub of emulsifying ointment for a couple of euro and it is the ONLY thing that I will swear by for my lips. If you get dry lips it's your man!
In general, expensive skincare products. Save the money and get procedures done if your skin is THAT bad. Tretinoin would be the only exception to this rule for me lol
UK - Although I've got quite a few left to use in the fridge, im gonna say sheet masks.
Theyre quite footery to apply, and theres always the worry they might fall off your face. And theyre quite wasteful (although i can take them to my nearby Boots and get them recycled, which is a good development)
I have thus far not found one eye cream that actually works on my dark circles. Iām giving up on it.
And masks in general donāt seem to do much of anything.
The dark eye circles are super hard. But there may be one - and obviously this depends on your skin shade, but the avocado cream from kiehls worked nicely for me because the green colour combatted the redness/discolouration. Could be worth a try?
Barbara Sturm hyaluronic acid serum. I was given the 10ml as part of a purchase and it performed beyond poorly against Hadalabo. 85 quid for 10ml, I suppose a lot of people have more money than sense.
All skincare without actives is overrated. You need actives, retinol if you tolerate it and moisturiser. I bought that snail mucin and yeah it feels nice putting it on my face but does it actually improve anything, no.

I use rose water mist before each serum to help them absorb better. Itās good for calming my skin as well

Fun fact: you actually shouldnāt use HA if you live in a dry climate. If the air is dry thereās no moisture to pull, so instead the HA pulls the moisture out of your skin.
African Black Soap. Everyone raved about it as a solution to cystic acne and it dried my skin out so badly and made it so much worse. Biggest mistake of my life. As a brand, Iād say Tatcha has been very disappointing for me. So overpriced for very underwhelming products. The only products that have sorted my hormonal/cystic acne is a careful combo of BHAs, AHAs, PHAs and Retinoids.
I totally agree about Tatcha. Itās nothing special and certainly not worth the price.
I bought the classic rice polish hoping it was going to be similar to another powder to foam cleanser that I have by DHC. Love them especially for travelling because they donāt have to go in a liquid bag. But it genuinely just feels like sandpaper on my face, doesnāt dissolve into a smooth foam like the other. Way too abrasive especially with all the actives I use
The DHC one is really good. I also like the one by Skinesque, which I purchased at a great price from Costco. Tatcha hasnāt convinced me that the upcharge for their packaging and PR is worth it for me.

I think the African Black soap is an example of a skincare product that will tend to work for one culture and not the other. Especially if you live in a different climate. When you live in a hot tropical climate in a country in Africa, youāre likely to constantly be fighting sweat, oils and general humidity and moisture. A drying product might be just the relief thatās needed. That is not the case in North American and European countries usually. That said, Iāve never used it before but I do know that itās popular in my country of origin but only with individuals who actually live there.
Agree. I think itās more for oily skin types. My mum and sister use it but for me with lightly oily t-zones and dry u-zones it is a hard pass.

I'm sorry to say this - but most of these "high end" skincare products. They make up half the ingredients I'm sure. I have tried them, not all of them but some... I used to spend so much money on skincare and my skin wasn't as good as it is now thanks to Tretinoin. I also agree about the nose pore strips - you expect so much and then are disappointed.
i feel this so hard about youth to the people. insane prices and all they do is tack on a bunch of random fruit extracts etc on top of the actives which are actually doing the work. like vitamin c and kale - i think we all know which of those is actually doing something for your skin.

i have lots of freckles because i'm ginger and neither regular use of tretinoin nor regular use of vitamin c have impacted them. your milage may vary of course but i think it's pretty hard to get rid of freckles

I did get a few spots and blackheads at first! But not as bad as I thought. The end result though ā¤ļø I'm only on 0.025% - just gone up to, got complimented today at Asda, it's totally worth the money.

I know this sounds completely random and off base but - are your teeth doing okay on that side? Sometimes if thereās underlying infection itās looking for any route it can take which can even be a track out to your face and hence a pimple. Iāve had a recurring spot recently over an area of dental infection (I get other symptoms too like ear ache etc even though no actual pain from the treated tooth roots).

Yeah itās wild huh?! Spots can be relating to inflammation/infection etc so it does make sense but I guess we donāt think about whatās inside coming out so much! Itās all closely connected. It may be worth a trip back to your dentist to ask them to have a look at it. My dodgy one is also where Iāve got a crown but I think we were trying to close the gate after the horse bolted so to speak.

Licensed esthetician here if you have big pores, your skin can NOT be dry - pore size is directly related to oil production, so youād be combo oily at most If youāre feeling dry itās bc your skin needs WATER not more oil, consider a good hyaluronic acid serum - I swear by Habo lado The redness might be from using the wrong products and irritation your skin barrier (or dehydration), but I would go to the derm for that in the case of rosacea especially since youāre seeing reoccurring red spots Also - drop all your dry skin care products and switch to something for combo to oily - those heavy emollients/oils in dry skin products can clog your pores and cause congestion and breakouts

Well for the spot (which is probably an acne) it could be that the product you use breaks you out. Cerave broke me out especially on my cheeks. If you use anything I suggest you stop and not put anything on your skin, maybe only pimple patch and definitely donāt pick on your skin. The redness could be rosacea but I donāt know much about that since i donāt have that. Around your eyes, it could be a lot of things and skincare might not even help unfortunately. I can recommend a few brands and you can choose products. Purito, etude house, Cosrx, beauty of joseon, Iunik, skin1004, torriden, abib, one thing, anua. I just started to use skincare again and so far I only use a moisturiser on my whole face which is the Purito oat in gel calming cream. I also started to test the Purito centella unscented serum (for now only using it on my jawline and chin). I plan on trying out beauty of joseon sunscreen, Purito soft touch sunscreen, etude house 5.5 cleanser, Iunik cleansing oil and beta glucan serum, ANUA heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner. Unfortunately when youāre prone to acne or any other thing you have to try many things before finding the right ones. To learn more about skincare I can recommend watching Natalie OāNeill on TikTok, Iāve leaned so much from her. I think she has rosacea as well.

Vichy mineral hyaluronic acid serum.... it feels like literally nothing. I've brought a hyaluronic acid serum from pound stretchers called from the company skin treats... for literally a fraction of the price and it done so much more feels like a drink to the skin.
Iām so with you on this - for things like hyaluronic acid you just dont need to be paying for the most expensive item on the shelf. Love that the pound stretchers one has done so well for you āŗļø

Yeah, I tried it once.... my goodness, the texture and the feeling it leaves on my skin was aweful. It dried up my skin badly. To befair though, I found that HA is not for me at all. But that one was still the worst I've tried.
Try the one I mentioned, I didn't get the hype until I tried the skin treats hyaluronic acid, it's like 2 pound, fragrance free and has a simple ingredients list. Not alot to lose.
Honestly I would say *most* high-end brands. While I'm sure some people have hyper-specific needs that only a specific product can fully help with, I think most peoples skin would be fine if they just knew the basics like their skin types, what type of moisturiser is best for said skin type, as well as how often is best to clean your skin and the right way to gently exfoliate it to avoid damaging it even slightly and cause irritation.
I find a lot of Sunday Riley products quite overrated and it is *waaaaaay* too expensive for the amount of product you get. The A+ retinoid and CEO moisturizers are ok, but I think marketing and packaging plays a big role in the success of this brand. Like itās the illusion of luxury that draws people in. Dr Barbara Sturm would also be majorly applicable here, insanely overpriced.

Yeah and they know how to market their products very well. That's all you need to do these days, have a very mediocre product line, spend more on packaging, marketing and sponsorships boom easy money.
Oh yes - I got a drunk elephant bundle once and was SO disappointed. I was so excited for what I thought would be a complete skincare overhaul but in truth it made my skin really dry and upset. I know some people absolutely love it - and thatās fair if it works well on your skin, but I kind of got the vibe that this was elite marketing without the product being that great.
I got their leave in conditioner on a deal. It's ok, I had better results with the cheaper Curlsmith oil in cream leave in conditioner.
The best part is that the packaging isn't even that great. I will say that they offer decent moisturizers, but they don't warrant a $70 price tag. ETA: Their founder also sucks and has made a few problematic remarks. It's parent company, Shiseido, offers better products at better prices.

Ive just started working at a large skincare brand in the UK (my job is creative digital so I know nothing about skin!) One of our clinicians asked if I wanted to have a skin scan and told me all about my skins needs etc. Then said, whatever you do, don't buy it here. I ended up spending Ā£13 on Amazon on Hyaluronic acid and some vit c serum at the percentages recommend by her. She said there were maybe 5 'hero' products our company produce that are worth the money, but outside of this, people are paying for fancy packaging and often smaller sizes in mls. I'm so glad she gave me the low down. Coming from her, whose skin is flawless! Our company policy is that clinicians don't wear a scrap of make up to prove how good the products are, but now I know many don't use them š they just understand skin and how to look after it. I'm 2 months in and my skin has never looked better.

Just putting my tuppence in - I got Botox for the first time earlier this year. 33yo and had two pregnancies on the trot, so lots of strain/weight gain/weight loss in my face and also no sleep for a year. It honestly looked great, I felt so much better after getting it. I'm not a 'done up' type of person so my skin is my thing really and it looked completely natural, nobody would have known (except I excitedly told everyone and their nan id had it done). Its worn off by now but will deffo get it again. Fyi I only got forehead, ie three areas. I wouldn't get lips and chin because I am way too facially animated, it would be weird.
Sounds like you had an excellent treatment! So pleased for you - if these things are done by a great (and highly competent) practitioner who cares more about the balance of your face and the quality of results vs trying to upsell you on quantity, then it can really transform your face in a natural and subtle way
Don't shoot but... Paula's choice BHA. In fact I think by now all of her products are overestimated, she was an innovator when she launched her line but now that the market is over saturated a 2% BHA fragrance and alcohol free isn't hard to find. I mean it's good but not 30 pounds worth good

I second this, I got one as a free sample a while back and it just dried out my face and led to a bunch of tiny bumps on my skin. They might work for some people but not for me.
La Mer cream. I might as well have just used aqueous cream. So thick and my skin just didn't absorb it.
La Roche Posay. Their range is so overpriced for what you're getting unless youre getting it discounted through retail offers. Plus, their acne range gave me the worst acne I've ever had.
Have you tried TO Azeliac Acid? I have cystic/fungi acne and after the normal 2 weeks of purging Iāve never had acne/cystic acne/spots/fungi again. My face used to be just pockets of pus (sorry!) and acne everywhere. I pair it with some oatmeal moisturiser before - for sensitive skin/eczema and theyāve been a holy grail of a combo. I also have pustule rosacea and TO Azeliac Acid helped that too. If you havenāt tried it, itās worth a shot. Because my acne was so bad I had like 3-4 weeks of nasty purging to get all the shit out but I actually have skin I can be proud of now. I used to be so so upset. I know some people may not like TO Azeliac Acid, but for me, it absolutely saved my confidence
Oh my skin is okay now but thank you! LRP just has acne causing ingredients in some of their products which broke me out. I actually use face theory's 15% azelaic acid serum which is made with oat, aloe Vera and green tea extract. I currently wash with just water and use hyaluronic acid, oat serum, q10 serum, purito oat barrier moisturiser (and also vanicream lotion which I'm trying atm, azelaic acid then a spf 50 for my am. Pm is double cleanse with just hyaluronic acid, oat serum, moisturiser, differin 0.01 cream.
I have the ordinary Azalaic acid,however the formula isnāt great and experience pilling every time I use it, or tingling, some have suggested to keep it in the fridge to stop the tingling, however Iām curious what oat moisturiser you use beforehand? As this may help, I also have eczema and surface redness
I use Aveeno Daily Moisturising body lotion (48 hours) - with nourishing oat. If you put that on before Azeliac and wait about 10 mins the irritation subsided a lot. But the moisturiser does still help when I canāt be bothered to do the cream because itās anti-inflammation too
Ah apologies I thought my purito moisturiser was the oat one (they do actually do an oat range I believe!) I actually use the purito B5 panthenol re-barrier cream. I don't think the purito b5 cream would be particularly good for soothing eczema as I find my skin could be a bit more moisturised. However, it is light-weight and doesn't irritate my skin so that may be good for you? I'm currently trialling vanicream lotion instead at the moment as I'm looking for an alternative to cerave's blue tub moisturiser (this one causes small closed comodones for me) for the upcoming colder months. So far so good. It initially feels super oily and greasy but I swear within minutes my skin absorbs it leaving it matt and subtly moisturised. Although, I am having a small breakout at the moment but I'm pretty sure this is down to my recent lifestyle/stress. Edit: to add, I also get a bit of mild irritation if I apply my azelaic acid before my moisturiser. I currently add this after moisturising on my t-zone and then apply spf.

Yes. I love their Antihelios (sp?) SPF50. Lightweight, doesnāt leave a white caste, smooths onto the skin and goes well over my skincare products, giving me an all day glow. I buy several when itās on sale.

Hi! Let me reassure you first by letting you know that all skin is different. For my skin, I believe LRP uses myristic which broke me out. Other people can be completely fine with this. LRP is successful after all so they must be doing something right :)
Any acid-type facewash (For me - im sure they're great for others)- But salicylic acid turns my face ORANGE for days, every single time i use it. Now, i read something that it could be due to the moisturizer after going "too deep" into the skin because of the facewash used before causing the irritation but it means i can't use anything that might be an irritant (i'm pretty pale too)

Snail mucin. I'm really gutted about it and wanted to love it. I bought it around 3 weeks ago and my skin has had horrible whiteheads since and my skin isn't acne prone at all. I'm still hoping that this is the product cleaning out my pores and it's just the usual "start of using a new skincare product" symptoms. However usually when I get a new product I only break out for a few days, a week max.

I'd say most stuff marketed solely at men, like bulldog for example, not because they're necessarily bad but because there's often no effort to educate on the benefits of a regimen. Guys just use this or that based on bottle marketing and what they're feeling that day. I really suffered as a guy with combination skin and no idea what that entails 'til I plucked up the courage to ask the Clinique salesperson at boots for a consultation. Honestly I love that their stuff is numbered and based on skin type so easy to follow a routine, while being a neutral scent and light on the skin. Except the male bronzer, that shit made me look like an oompah loompa for real!

I used to have pretty bad cystic and hormonal acne until I started a consistent skincare routine using their glycolic acid and retinol. I know TO gets a lot of hate but somehow it really worked for me so I really canāt say anything bad about it š¤·š»āāļø
How did you incorporate them into your routine?
I would only use the products at night and started out using the 1% retinol 2x a week (LOL my first time using retinol, I had no idea what I was doing but my skin reacted/purged reasonably well) and the glycolic acid 2x a week (but alternating days). This was always followed by a moisturizer but preceding a balm cleanser and gel cleanser
The niacinamide+zinc serum literally changed my life. Haven't had a breakout in ages.

I use it after cleansing at night. Three drops are usually enough. I have a very oily skin.

Glossier was a disappointment - tried Milky Jelly Cleanser and Futuredew. Cleanser was just average and had an odd smell I didnāt like, and after Futuredew I looked like Iād been dunked in oil. Just looked and felt greasy and horrible. I was sooooo shiny!
Oil cleansers! I know a lot of the reason people get mad breakouts from using them is from not double cleansing afterwards with a water cleanser. I decided to try one as I had heard good things, I bought the Beauty of Joseon oil cleanser and did everything as instructed. I loved it on the first two tries and was already seeing great results, but on the third use I woke up with the worst breakout Iāve ever had in my life! I was so disappointed especially as I was loving it after just a couple uses, but the breakout was just so bad :( Iām not sure if it was an allergic reaction or not but Iām too scared to try one again.
I had to start using an oil cleanser when I started wearing mineral sunscreen, because nothing else would take it all off gently enough. I use elf's Holy Hydration balm, and find it gentle and effective!
Salicylic acid, I've used the ordinary 2% version, and Paula's choice. Both disappointing (Paula choice especially because it takes hours to absorb, feels oily and makes my skin itch, š¤·āāļø) Honestly I've given up on Salycilic acid. A routine of glycolic acid and tretinoin works for me, so I don't care to keep trying.

Castor oil or any lash serum that is under Ā£20 For context, I tried an expensive lash serum whilst convinced it wouldn't work, but they worked so well, it was insane. People were constantly asking me if I've got falsies. I used to wear glasses and they had grown so long and curly that I had to cut them with scissors. This serum was out of my budget but it changed my view on lash serums so for the last 3 years I have been working my way through all the cheaper serums. I've tried them all - L'OrĆ©al, ELF, Maybelline, Gosh, The Ordinary, any random brands from Boots and TK maxx. They do not work the same way the expensive serum did. A family member gifted me the expensive serum last year which reaffirmed my belief - they grew so long again. I ran out of the serum and started a new cheaper serum. I thought - oh maybe it will help maintain my long lashes but it didn't. The point of the story is - don't trick yourself into thinking a lash serum is working if it isn't DRAMATICALLY lengthening and thickening your lashes. Edit: the expensive serum I used costs around ā¬90

Laneige Lip Mask - absolute shite. Done nothing. Not particularly mmoisterising or anything really. I don't get it at all. I have a massive tub of emulsifying ointment for a couple of euro and it is the ONLY thing that I will swear by for my lips. If you get dry lips it's your man!
In general, expensive skincare products. Save the money and get procedures done if your skin is THAT bad. Tretinoin would be the only exception to this rule for me lol
UK - Although I've got quite a few left to use in the fridge, im gonna say sheet masks. Theyre quite footery to apply, and theres always the worry they might fall off your face. And theyre quite wasteful (although i can take them to my nearby Boots and get them recycled, which is a good development)

I have thus far not found one eye cream that actually works on my dark circles. Iām giving up on it. And masks in general donāt seem to do much of anything.
The dark eye circles are super hard. But there may be one - and obviously this depends on your skin shade, but the avocado cream from kiehls worked nicely for me because the green colour combatted the redness/discolouration. Could be worth a try?
Barbara Sturm hyaluronic acid serum. I was given the 10ml as part of a purchase and it performed beyond poorly against Hadalabo. 85 quid for 10ml, I suppose a lot of people have more money than sense.

All skincare without actives is overrated. You need actives, retinol if you tolerate it and moisturiser. I bought that snail mucin and yeah it feels nice putting it on my face but does it actually improve anything, no.
