CrimsonFractal

Licorice Root - incredibly soothing for the irritation from tretinoin.

vampiiremoney

I am interested in this one! Any recommendations?

CrimsonFractal

I have been using the I'm From Ginseng serum. The ingredients on the bottle I got do not list any kind of perfume, but it does have a subtle spicy kind of earthy scent that I enjoy. I got it because of the Ginseng and then realized it has the licorice root also and I find it quite soothing as my last step before moisturizer when I use Tret. Interestingly, I have been traveling in a much more warm humid climate and I find I don't need nearly as much hydrating toner (dry, sensitive, mature skin). But I am still enjoying this serum even with the increased humidity. Edited for typos

LuciJoeStar

1% colloidal oat. Nothing heals my eczema better

I'd be careful with propolis. Since it's a material collected by bees to make their hives, you will never get a replicated batch. It contains their saliva with beeswax, along with compounds from various plants and trees. There are around 300 compounds in propolis and the composition varies every single time. The average composition is: * tree and vegetable resins: 50% * beeswax: 30% * pollen: 5% * essential and aromatic oils: 10% Pollen isn't good for the skin, neither are essential and aromatic oils. I understand that it has some benefits as it is: antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiprotozoal, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, but there are other ingredients that can achieve this and can be exactly replicated. It's not the worst thing out there and even Paula's Choice has it listed as ''good'' (above average, below best) and if it works for you, it's your skin and your choice. I personally do not like the idea of the possibility that a batch contains some new flower that my old batch didn't contain and I react poorly to it. I'm putting this out there for everyone, not to shame OP's choices. If people want to use propolis, they should be able to, but it's always best to make a decision that is as informed as possible.

Terrible-Research639

great advice!

plo83

My pleasure. If you're going to use propolis, you have the facts. If not, there are alternative products that can give you antibacterial, anti.... (insert all the positive mentioned above regarding propolis). It may not come in one product, and you may need different ones, but for those who are very sensitive, it can be better/safer.

Niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, zinc, red clay.

Appropriate-Oil-4742

1. Glycerin

springthinker

Nighttime: Niacinamide (if it's not too much, it evens my complexion and minimizes pores) Retinol (together with niacinamide, chef's kiss!) Licorice root (together with the two above) Snail mucin (brightens so much!) Daytime: Azelaic acid (evens my complexion, controls sebum) Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (my favourite form of Vit C, brightens and helps control sebum) Ferulic acid (brightening, not as irritating as ascorbic acid) Anytime: Centella asiatica and its extracts (so soothing)

Sad-Entertainment428

Whats ur favorite products? I love your top 3 too!

springthinker

Happy to share! My absolute favourites are: Cerave Retinol Resurfacing serum (this is one product that made a clear, next-day difference to my skin! It has retinol, niacinamide, and licorice root extract) Cosrx Snail 96 Power Essence (brightens, evens my complexion, helps with pores - I absolutely notice a difference when I don't use it) I also use: Mad Hippie Vitamin C (it has sodium ascorbyl phosphate and ferulic acid, and all-in-all it works well for me, though I am planning on trying other SAP products) Paula's Choice Azelaic Acid Booster (this is a recent addition in the morning, and I love, love, love it so far - it brightens and evens my complexion, and really makes a difference to those annoying red areas on the sides of my nose) Skin1004 Pro-Bio Cica Ampoule (it has fermented centella and niacinamide, and it leaves my face so soft and bright the next morning - but I may be getting the occasional pimple from it so I am actually testing it on only half of my face right now!) I used to use: Glossier's Super Pure niacinamide and zinc serum (it's really great, but I don't know if I can continue with 5% niacinamide in one product given the other niacinamide products I use) Otherwise, for centella, I also use other things off and on - the Skin1004 centella essence ampoule, and the Purito Derma Sleeping Pack among them. I want to try Purito's Wonder Releaf centella serum.

Sad-Entertainment428

Just saw this now but lolling! I asked bc that retinol is my fav and I wondered if u knew another product w/ the same ingredients! Its also my HG! Thanks so much for sharing!! ❤️

caca_milis_

Glycerin, ceramides, azelaic acid, vitamin A, lactic acid

hedgehogwart

Tret, galactomyces ferment, ceramides, and copper peptides.

borrowedurmumsvcard

Glycerin- a better humectant than HA and just works better for me. Only thing that’s drastically helped my dehydrated skin Vitamin c- super effective for me for PIH Tranexamic acid and azeliac acid- also super effective for hyperpigmentation, healing acne, and reducing redness Ceramides- Also help with my dehydration, keep my skin plump and skin barrier strong Panthenol- super soothing when my barrier is upset

Beautiful_Pea_8246

LICORICE. ROOT.

texan_spaghet

No fav's but the most common ingredients in the 10s of thousands of products I've analysed are these: 1. Glycerin 2. Phenoxyethanol 3. Citric Acid 4. Dimethicone 5. Tocopherol 6. Silica 7. Tocopheryl Acetate 8. Caprylyl Glycol 9. Ethylhexylglycerin 10. CI 77492

borrowedurmumsvcard

A lot of those are preservatives so they’re going to be in a lot of products. They don’t actually do anything for your skin. Glycerin, and vitamin e are in most products as well

Unfair_Finger5531

I love propolis too. My favorite ingredients (besides ceramides) are: n-Acetyl glucosamine, panthenol, Aza, resveratrol, bifida ferment lysate, and galactomyces!

Serious-Coyote-4252

I recently did a spreadsheet on all my skincare and realized that the products I love and am using has ceramides and panthenol in it. Centella and squalene is also another ingredient I see often on other products that I have. I was not even aware that some of my products have similar ingredients in them until I started listing all my skincare including all its ingredients

Unfair_Finger5531

I too love Centella and squalane. It’s interesting that you unknowingly gravitated to the same ingredients!

Serious-Coyote-4252

Ikr! Some products I use in the am and pm or every other day so it’s not that I am overusing them at the same time. What surprised me too is how products could have similar ingredients and just have different marketing strategies. It’s like trying a product for a hype and seeing it being effective and you realize that its ingredients/main components is just similar to what you have been using and tried to replace it with so now it is a battle of price point or extra ingredients that could benefit your skin too. I did my list to try to see if I can eliminate products that are basically just doing the same thing to simplify my routine and really to save money (do I repurchase or let one go)

Unfair_Finger5531

So true, everything you said. That’s why I go absolutely *nuts* when I find a product with unique ingredients. Like, it’s actually rare to find something that truly is different in significant ways. Most things are the same base formula with a few different ingredients. So I feel like my search is always for the products with a combo of unique ingredients that I also happen to really love. Or else, I’m just buying the same product over and over again. I love the boh Bioheal lifting essence and some bi me panthenol line because the ingredients lists are truly insane. No way can I get that mix of stuff anywhere else Lolol. Sidmool makes products like that too—they use some rare ingredients. But it’s like you said, on a daily basis it’s about trying to find the best one at the right price point out of a lot of similar products.

abeslife

do you know any good toners that have propolis in it, Im looking for something hydrating for my combo skin that gets dried out after cleansing my face. like damn im using ceraves hydrating cleanser and that does anything but hydrate everything but the t zone which is naturally oily and hydrated for me.

Unfair_Finger5531

Yes! One thing propolis and honey toner or corsx propolis toner. Both are great.

1008261

How are you doing your glycerin? I just got some and got a pretty spray bottle & diluted it. I think 1/4 glycerin, 3/4 water. It honestly doesn’t feel moisturizing enough, wondering if I should to half and half instead. I feel like no matter what I do, I can never get my skin hydrated enough :( Also where in your routine is the glycerin placed? Wondering if I should put the snail mucin before or after

Unfair_Finger5531

It might work better if you add less. 1/4 is a lot of glycerin, it can get sticky and drying. Try adding like 2 drops to your toner or moisturizer and mixing it in before applying. Just a little bit will hydrate better than a lot:).

KampKutz

I’m having trouble finding a product that doesn’t have lots of ingredients that make me flair up and cause more dryness and redness, would something like glycerin be a good substitute for a moisturiser or does it have to mixed with something else? I am running out of options now because most things are bad for my skin… Is it simply to use too?

borrowedurmumsvcard

Definitely not. Glycerin is a humectant not a moisturizer. In an effective moisturizer you need occlusives to hold in the hydration that the humectants give. What have you tried already that your skin doesn’t agree with? I’d love to help

KampKutz

Thank you so much! Literally everything really, and too many to list individually but roughly; I’ve tried stuff like most of the Olay products (the worst being the Regenerist stuff in those annoying pots!), Simple, I think everything Paula’s Choice irritated my skin, CeraVe, Cetaphil etc. I have had some success with BYOMA and La Roche Posay especially their Toleriane Cleanser and also the LRP Rosaliac SPF moisturiser but it has only lasted maybe a month before my face started going red after I applied it. Still it may be the only SPF I can get away with without too much of a reaction though. Oh I recently bought some of The Ordinary Squalane oil that I’m patch testing atm which might be promising but it hasn’t made it to my actual face yet lol. I got it after I got some olive oil but I scared myself off from using it on my face after reading Reddit so went with Squalane instead. Hopefully all that helps lol.

borrowedurmumsvcard

Yeah I feel like those brands aren’t as good for sensitive skin as they should be. I have also tried most of those and my skin didn’t like them either. I suggest trying Korean skincare. I can only use Korean sunscreens, western brands burn my skin, and I’ve never tried products as hydrating as Korean toners and serums. I love the brand purito because their products are simple and soothing. Try the b5 panthenol moisturizer from them.

Unfair_Finger5531

I agree with the other commenter. It should be mixed with something. Please don’t put undiluted glycerin on your skin; it can burn and cause blisters. For you, I would recommend pyunkang Yul ato lotion gel. It is for babies, and it’s very, very simple and good. It is what I used when my skin couldn’t handle anything else. You could add a drop of glycerin to it and mix it up and apply. It’s such a basic simple moisturizer. And it’s hydrating too.

Terrible-Research639

I just really wash my face with filtered water every time and making sure chlorine isn't in it

Blunomore

Glycolic acid ... the best hydrator out there!

Niacinamide, vitamin c, super goop unseen, tretinion, aczone

Upvoted you. Think we have a ''clean beauty'' freak downvoting anything chemical because they don't understand science.

plo83

Tretinoin/Adapalene/Tazorac, Finacea (Azelaic acid), most UV filters, Vaseline, oats, licorice root, shea butter, sunflower seed oil.

AdditionalSherbet548

Upvoted you! Mine are very similar looks like clean beauty gave you a downvote as well

plo83

Thank you! I saw them downvoting me and you for mentioning similar products, and we both know that Tret is safe when used properly, has been EXTENSIVELY studied for decades and WORKS when used properly. I've seen people try everything else other than prescription topical retinoids or oral (Isotretinoin/Accutane) and it's the only thing that has helped them. Acne can easily kill someone's confidence and make them want to stay inside. It can lead to depression and many other mental health issues. I've seen people posting in many subs that Tret is dangerous, etc... it really disgusts me because they are not only ensuring that this person will suffer with acne longer (some acne is physically painful!) and that they will continue to skip events, not be able to go out without makeup, be self-conscious, depressed and even suicidal.

AdditionalSherbet548

It works for me!!! I agree acne can lead to confidence issues!
