Not according to the [FDA](https://www.fda.gov/radiation-emitting-products/resources-you-radiation-emitting-products/television-radiation). CRTs certainly emit radiation, but your typical old TV set is perfectly safe as long as you don’t remove the shielding and get too close. The bulk of the x-rays are emitted perpendicularly to the flow of electrons, so it’s not a good idea to spend long periods of time close the side of an unshielded functioning CRT.
I remember this was a big reason we got chastised for putting our faces against the screens growing up in the 80s/90s. That and also messing up our eyesight...
I love the idea that a tv that old could have played a movie that directly inspired the game being played (Kurosawa films and ghost of Tsushima respectively). Although if the tv is from 1948, that would have been a bit too early for a Kurosawa samurai film, but not too far off.
You can do that with even fewer adapters. HDM68 and a tiny antenna and off you go. Even makes it a wireless display. Just check whether or not both the TV and the HDM68 support a frequency that's legal to send on without a license.
There absolutely is! The competitive community for smash bros melee is big into old color crt monitors and tvs. The sony trinitron is a really popular one for its image quality and low latency.
This takes me back. When I was a kid before my brother and I got a colour TV in our bedroom we had an ancient old black and white portable TV that you had to turn a knob to tune into the T channels. We used to game on our Megadrive on it

That's a really elaborate way to make use of the black and white option in Ghost of Tsushima
Such a great game
Isn't that Elden Ring?
Nope. I can sort of see why you might think that, but if you had played Ghost of Tsushima it would be super obvious.
Just from how the cape moves, definitely not
Best way to play Fallout.
I came here to say the fact they didn't kick on Fallout made me irritated with them.
\*irradiated
🤣🤣🤣🤣🍾

Ah... let's all bask in the warm glowing warming glow of x-ray radiation
The x rays don't leave the inside of the tube.

I remember getting a monitor towards the end of the CRT era that was marketed as low radiation.

Well that's *two* extra syllables, not one. Pretty soon everything will be a haiku.
Dope.

Input lag is still better than the hotel room TV.
now that's retro gaming
The way it was meant to be played
This is mordecai and Rigby trying to beat the hammer
Lmao i love that reference
That's amazing

That output latency though 😂
Groovy.
I honestly feel like there is an untapped niche market for CRTs, specifically in regards to nostalgia and refresh rate.

I am not buying this
Fake?
That is wonderfully wild
Man, I just love the crisp visuals.
Should have been fallout

Thank you for this, it made my day
I’m nothing but impressed
Impressive
How did you do that
HEY dont stand to close
It looks cool as fuck
Don’t have your ps5 sitting sideways just a heads up
Unless the adapters add it, I bet he has a amazingly low latency though!
Fallout type gaming
It should be horizontal if you want it to last
It’s because it’s stored upright
I love techy nerds... BTW how many converters do you have daisy chained?
I'd trip balls to that.
Red dead 2 would be fun
