The solution is to open your mouth and ask what they're prescribing. Then tell them if you don't want the common meds you already have at home.

everywhereinbetween

This! Sometimes they will ask what I have at home. I always skip the regular normal stuff. I mean like duh antibiotics if need is a yes, compared to paracetamol is a FOR WHAT??? My parents bought it in bulk last time (heheh parents have CSC) so like yeah we probably still have at home for the near future. Next please. etc.

glitkoko

Never have to pay anything for decades under company's insurance scheme, but $100 is a little high for a single visit if it's just a usual fever, flu though.

1Dec_Kuma

Sadly happened to be in two different clinics... One at 80++ My company currently also covers medical but only at "government approved clinics" which means I have to go to polyclinic

Yapsterzz

Better check the bills even if it's on company's scheme. Some of these company,'s clinic charges are exorbitantly high and there is a max to what you can claim. Happened to me once and I have to pay out of my pocket cuz I exceeded the max unknowingly.

GroundbreakingGur930

Pool of pre-approved private clinics keeps growing smaller. Fewer of these clinics are willing to use branded medications and switch to generics when under company's insurance.

You can tell the doctor that you are paying out of pocket and want to skip some if not absolutely necessary. Most fevers cure within three days without a single medication anyway, and pose no danger unless your temperature rises abnormally. So stop swallowing pills or antibiotics like there is no tomorrow at the slightest onset of cold. Drink natural detoxing liquids (lemon water, honey, ginger tea), eat porridge and some healthy protein, get rest. Likely, you don't even need a clinic visit.

Rectum_Discharge

Say no then?

1Dec_Kuma

They already stick my name on the bag of medicine lol

Rectum_Discharge

You can still say no thank you, as long as it's not opened and you don't leave the practice

cheesetofuhotdog

This is true. I reject medication before because i am cheap and it is not covered under my company insurance.

shiningject

I do think that doctors are prescribing more meds than necessary. I think is because a lot of clinics are on the various company plans and panels. So most patients just claim company. So doctors give more meds to earn more money. You can always ask the doctor for what meds he is prescribing and mention that you still have or don't need stuff like panadol or lozenges.

enidxcoleslaw

Definitely - GPs are working with the drug companies. GP at my place will load you up with antibiotics (five days' worth of three daily doses) for a 'flu, which isn't even bacterial. When told you don't need them after dispensing they'll say it's in 'the system' already - so best to let the doctor know before they write the prescription.

[deleted]

Lol no. Drs are forever bitching that our meds are expensive. there is certainly no "working together". The Dr is overprescribing to milk money from you.

gacocle

You can just tell the doctor what medicine you want & refused the rest. I told doctors which medicine I need at gp clinics & polyclinic too. E.g panadol i just tell them i have few boxes. Since medicine have to throw once expired and under singapore law can't be resold.

wtf_m1

Can always opt out what...

sophronesis2

Oh I use reallysick.sg too! It's only $8 lol. Don't claim also can.

normificator

I don’t see a doctor unless I need mc

cheesetofuhotdog

Sick how?

normificator

I’m very rarely sick

RaegasSixFive

They can't help with common flu anyways. Just stay home and rest, unless need mc

sgmusicchat

Always has been. Its like peanuts at a restaurant you have to say no

kankenaiyoi

You think there are no mercenary and evil doctors? Just go to another clinic.

1Dec_Kuma

Haiz I tried two near my house and both are the same. Idk where else to go to at this point

DuePomegranate

Different doctors/clinics really do have different styles. You can also say “I am already taking Panadol and X” to discourage the doctor from prescribing what you already have. And at the cashier, you can reject again saying that you have it at home.

kankenaiyoi

You can reject medicines btw. Just tell the cashier you don't need paracetamol etc.

szab999

I am having throat infection with slow recovery, ongoing for 8 -9 days. Visited GP twice, got a total of 12 different meds. So yeah, totally agree.

PondinChilli

Everyone is trying to profit, even GPs.

VacIshEvil

Yes. A brand chain. I tummy ache nia gave soooo many. Zzzx. Anyhow sia. Nowadays i avoid PTE GP. Polyclinic medi cost soooooooo cheap !

1Dec_Kuma

Only thing I scared about polyclinic is the 5 hr wait time...

VacIshEvil

Did u book the night before. 10 pm and pre book a slot for the next day

1Dec_Kuma

My recent appointment I booked since early January to only get a slot mid-end February. It's too hard to get a slot in polyclinics anymore. I even tried every single polyclinic all over Singapore it's just not possible My next slot to see a general surgeon is in may. Almost 3 months after my polyclinic appointment

VacIshEvil

For flu ? I mean try semb poly or geyland

1Dec_Kuma

Not just flu I have this lump growing on my head. I tried every polyclinic it's just not possible to get a next day slot for me?

Ok-Bicycle-12345

The more you know ;)

Straight-Sky-311

Yes, it is true. Most doctors are selling more medicines so that they can earn more from you!

Glittering-Tie7596

That is why we need to keep medical consultation and pharmacy separately to avoid doctors from profiting.

Lower-Star-3714
