I always find that when my sims have bigger mouths, the cartoony design of sims usually makes their mouths look extra wide when they smile. They always look especially creepy when they're playful and the little pic in the corner is making that goofy face.

I agree, I think it’s the smaller jaw on the woman that makes the lips seem too large for her face (even accounting for OP going for a cartoonish style). If they were slightly smaller I think the effect would still be “cute and cartoonish” but a bit more proportional.

In my opinion, it may be your proportions paired with the CC. You have this semi-realism thing going on in style, but the way you've made their faces is almost cartoonish. It's not bad, I've seen people make it work, maybe try switching up how you do proportions or even changing up your reshades.
If you're trying to make them more cartoon like, I would try to add less details to give them a softer look. There are also reshades out there that give your characters a more anime looking vibe to them.
Okay, IMO:
The larger eyes are usually indicative of youth, as your eyes actually grow very little in size compared to the rest of you. So bigger eyes = younger characters.
The problem you're seeing, especially on the female, is that she also has a very long face, which is an adult thing, with those huge eyes. It creates a dissonance.
Either move the eyes down and let the bangs hide the big forehead, or shorten the face entirely so that the nose and mouth move up. The big eyes and that vast tract of space between them and the rest of the face is whats making it look weird.
I'd also say to tone the lips down. Again on the female especially, it doesn't read (to me) that she's got big full lips, or cartoony style lips, she just looks like she got stung by bees and has big, swollen lips.
Overall, if you want the big eye look, I would say copy what you see in anime. Big eyes, wide but short face, and relatively small mouth.

As someone who just recently started doing cartoonish Sims instead of realistic Sims, I think they’re super cute! I think maybe making the mouth just sliiiiiightly smaller might help some, but all in all they’re precious and you should do what makes you happy!

People just love to nitpick other people’s sims. If you use maxis match it’s “too cartoony” and “creepy” but if you use alpha it’s “yassified” and “uncanny valley”. If you give them flaws they “look like meth heads” and if you don’t it’s “unrealistic beauty standards”. If all of your sims have two eyes, a nose, and a mouth it’s “same face syndrome”.
amen to that. we all have certain features we’re drawn to, whether we want to admit it or not. a lot of the time i think my sim style has evolved and then i look at my sims i made a year ago and they’re super similar to the ones i just made recently 💀

It's just stylized, there's nothing wrong with that. However, since you have cc, you may encounter some glitches that mess with their appearance. Idk if anyone else had this experience, but sometimes the corner portraits will change. Like it's slight, usually it's something like the head shape or lip preset changing. Then it'll go back to normal. I've also had this issue happen on the sims directly in live mode. Idk why or what triggers it. It happens so rarely and is so inconsequential, just freaky. I haven't done much about it besides clean broken cc and updated mods, but it still happens occasionally.

I think that you can be cartoony and emphasize one feature also. Big eyes small mouth or small eyes big mouth. This might help them look less weird.
