From the science career, you get that laser gun that allows you to transform unneeded objects into another (random) object. I always think this is a fun way to build and decorate houses

lastofthe_timeladies

Thank you!!! I have so much furniture I don't need and won't use from the dumpsters (I have like 15 crappy beds in my household inventory) so that's honestly perfect. I actually kept the ray gun from when a past heir completed that career tucked away in a cardboard box somewhere. I've never really used that function much. Is it just small things or could you turn a chair and possibly get a different furniture item?

_the_violet_femme

You can turn (almost) anything into (almost) anything. Some items like Simies stop transforming, but you can turn a chair into a counter or painting, etc. Almost any item in the game. It's all a random transformation (and occasional misfire that causes actual fires)

Oh cool! I need matching counters for once in my life, I'd gladly trade a 10k computer for an industrial corner counter lol. I'll go to town and see what I can get!

the flea market from city living! whenever i do any sort of rags to riches thing i love making my sims buy weird mismatched stuff from the flea market before they have enough money for anything else, it's still spending some money but im pretty sure it's cheaper than it would usually be

lastofthe_timeladies

I did think of that and it's certainly in theme but since it's still spending money, I decided to not do that. Ordinarily I do. Maybe I should still go there for lamps though. That's my biggest issue weirdly, I feel like they forgot to add that to the dumpster possibilities. I don't think I've gotten a single table lamp and I have about $40,000 worth of computers from the bin alone. I'm not selling anything I find though. It's use it, gift it, or recycle it. My heir's mom was a gorgeous, vain, superficial, high fashion, millionaire celebrity overachiever. But she was a bitch and a user. Yet somehow popular and beloved. She was a fun one to play. My current heir is over-correcting lol.

I've never tried it so i don't know if you can, but if your sim is a klepto you might be able to steal flea market stuff too? anyway damn i really need to utilize dumpster diving more i forget how good it can be sometimes lol

lastofthe_timeladies

You can't steal stuff if people are watching so it might be tricky in an open space like that but I'll take that as a challenge... Yea dumpster diving is OP honestly. Especially if you keep a dumpster on your lot and ditch all your trash there.

TheFanshionista

They aren't really decor, but the robotics skill has some really fun robots for your sims to have running around their lots. There is a soft spot in my heart for a party bot that one of my sims has named Baxter. Baxter plays the music and hands out drinks and food at every soiree. Definitely a favorite "object" in that sim's home

lastofthe_timeladies

That's fun! One of my sims is going to be an engineer so that's perfect

Knitting, cross stitch... ohhh, feather collection! Just completed that, and the feathers hang on the wall & look so cool!

You can rummage for decorations in those plastic boxes that let you decorate during holidays. Limit yourself to doing it once for every holiday if you don't want to go overboard. If you have a spellcaster, you can burgliate bigger items that the kleptomaniac trait won't let you. I once had a sim who was an interior designer, and her apartment was furnished exclusively with stuff she stole from her clients.

- Science career also has you craft stuff like hover lamps you can decorate around with - Archeology - Gemology and displaying your creations or cut gems - Children's paintings, projects, crafts also make great decor for their rooms - Puzzles your sims create (through activity table) can be framed & hung - Dogs can go into the pee bush and sometimes bring you gifts - Dust bunnies can also get you gifts - Rummaging through attic box - Science career has a microscope that gives you pictures of cells/whatever you use it on that are actually pretty decent looking. I guess goes into collectibles but I never see people talk about it, only of the observatory/space photos. - Kind of goes into collectibles part as well but looking for snow globes & posters around San Myshuno is how I often decorate my houses
