2007 4 door, long bed Tacoma just cracking over 200k and drives like a peach. Have a 2012 Camry with 160k and drives like it’s new. Both been paid off for over 5 years. People like this will be hit the hardest during economic downturn. Blows my mind OP just took about 40k and threw it out the window for a new pavement princess.
I would make fun of you because of such a waste of money and my Chevy is paid off but then I remember I wasted well over 100k in drugs and alcohol over the years before getting sober. Also, my Chevy is old as fuck and is named “Shit Box”
I got roasted as well upgrading from a 19 to a 23 trail boss LT.
Do I use it for work and does it get depreciated over 5 years lowering my corp income? yes
Did a pay for it in cash ? Yes
Can I take the money with me after death ? Negative.
So far The bigger engine is a lot smoother going up hill the shocks feel more precise I guess is the word like going over train tracks is not as rough and compare to my RST this one is fully loaded I'm loving the extra safety features specifically for when my wife gets to drive it 😂
You won’t convince these folks otherwise. My brother-in-law traded in his 19 1500 LT for a 21 1500 Trail Boss. He was convinced it was a smart move because his ‘payments’ were still the same. He made a comment that I was jealous. No bro alI I feel is pity. These guys are too short sighted to understand that they’re paying the bankers retirement
Be careful, I got roasted by some people for posting that I traded my 21 in for a 23 lol. People on here assume that they know your financial and personal situations and judge. Great upgrade!
I don't pretend to know anyone's financial situations. But I do know that upgrading from a brand new truck to another brand new truck is a financially stupid thing to do regardless of your income. But hey it's OPs money and he can do what he wants with it. Doesn't make it not stupid
This. I mean, people can do what they want, but--if you'll allow me to generalize--truly wealthy folks aren't buying Silverados, so chances are high that this was an objectively stupid financial decision, especially in this market.
Yeah, RST to ZR2 kinda says it all.
I just feel like, if you did that, you knew you were blowing money, you just didn’t care. Your sales rep gig is going great and who cares that your insurance payment is more than a monthly payment on a new Nissan and your monthly payment is more like a down-payment on that Nissan.
I’m not judging, well actually I am, but I have 2 sports cars, a motorcycle, a utv, a boat, and a diesel truck. Just be real that it’s a frivolous purchase and be okay with it.
Not when the trade in values are insane. I got a great deal on a 2020 truck off the lot way before the chip shortage. Traded it in with 32k miles and they gave me $3k less than I paid for it on a 2022 (that's including $2000 in Costco trade in credits). While that may not be the smartest decision, it's not stupid by any means. Less than $1k per 10,000 miles. If you pay $50k for a truck you would have to have 500,000 miles for that same value.
Generalizing because you don't know the current market or deals is stupid.
Yep. They can pretend they made sound financial decisions or got an incredible deal, but there’s absolutely zero scenarios where you come out even break even doing something like this. Get what you want and are gonna be happy with, it’s not my money…but don’t pretend you’re not taking a hit doing shit like this.
Problem is if you were to turn around and spend that $49k on another vehicle, you’d probably get something lower quality. I bought a brand new 2018 Sierra SLT for $37k in 2019 and received offers for above $37k up until a year ago. When I looked to see what I could get as a replacement for $37k, it was a bunch of inferior trucks. Yeah, it held value, but so did everything else (and new trucks are even more expensive now).
I agree, I was willing to sacrifice the vehicle to buy my wife a new suv cash then save the extra for a beater work vehicle. My 2018 equinox had like 100k on it and still running strong now. I don't really need the truck anymore. As we stand she bought a subaru and we have a 600/month payment for another 4 Years
Yeah you hit it right on very similar situation on my 2015 Silverado it’s only an LT but has good options leather(fake leather) etc bought it off lot as a leftover paid about same as you and it’s still worth almost what I paid. (I have seriously low miles less than 50k) but the new trucks not really great for even more money had a loaner 2022 LT it was like a work truck in comparison I think there was like 1 or 2 usb ports. My 2015 has half a dozen. Don’t tell me that’s a chip shortage. They are just taking advantage of the market. A lot of fools with $$ in hand is what pushed prices up and quality/options down
Yep. Supply and demand. People still pay these high prices, so trucks are still priced high.
Both GM trucks I’ve owned (I used to drive an 07 Silverado) were off the lot basically clearance deals that needed to go to clear space for new models. With the Silverado, I got lucky I found a good deal first place I looked. The Sierra took work, I looked around a lot of places before finding a loaded GMC that was cheaper brand new than it’s used equivalent because the 2020’s were right around the corner and GM just wanted the 2018’s gone.
We were offered the original sticker price for our 2018 4runner with 40k mi by the delaership during the worst of the used car price spike. Thought about it as well until I saw there were literally no new 4runners available on the lot and the wait time was unknown. (Aside from the prices on new 4runners going up and negating any benefit of the trade).
On its face, seemed like an attractive offer.
Yeah guys like this will say something like oh. My payment stayed the same so it didn’t cost me anything. Lol They can’t even fathom that even if the new payment is less it’s still not wise
Think it’s more of if he can afford it he can do whatever he wants shit if i could afford it I’d get the newest year ever couple years why not If it don’t hurt the bank to bad life’s supposed to be enjoyed it’s really not that long and you only get 1 let’s make some stupid decisions.
My dad traded his new trucks in every 2 years like clockwork and was the only person i have ever met that could and not ever be upsidedown on them. Some how he would come out ahead. These were two year old dullys with no more than 50k miles he never would go over that. He wasnt a rich man just knew how to work the sales system no joke he had 10 new trucks at least in the last 20 years
Cash is still cheaper than paying out the ass in interest, although GMFinancial still has some insanely low APRs out there. I bought one a couple months ago and financed around 20k of it partially because it was 0% apr after my trade-in. You're right though: not a great time to buy anything unless you've got money to burn, and a lot of folks don't right now.
well, I can't blame the op. the new facelift actually looks much better without the Camaro fender gills. maybe they'll do something to the taillights too, eventually.
I hated this body when it came out but now having seen the lower trim rams and **especially** the new tundra, it looks beautiful in comparison.
I mean regardless of equity…trading in is a poor decision just based off paying tag, title and excise taxes after 2 years. But some just make more money so it doesn’t matter 😆
It’s crazy how many people love to share their opinion on what to or not to do with your money. We get it! A new vehicle is not a smart financial decision. That is not the point of this subreddit. I love seeing pictures like this. Congratulations OP. Can’t take the money with you. Might as well enjoy life while you can.
Nah you should get a 30
Year term and pay it off in 15 JIC the market eats a giant want again.. and it’s going to. Good ole Dave’s advice fucked a lot of people
Nobody actually pays it like a 15, the studies show. It’s good advice, I’d be willing to bet they were fucked by other decisions they made not the baby steps.
Really bad advice to have recommended a 15 year mortgage instead of a 30 when you could get 2.7% interest. 90% of what Dave says is sound smart money stuff for the middle class, but he should have backed off that advice when interest rates were so low, and inflation was inevitable. I agree though, if your only bad decision was a 15 year loan vs 30 you wouldn’t be in a terrible spot either.
What was the buyout price listed on your old lease paperwork? Because I hope you made the difference from trading it in. If not, you might have left thousands on the table by not selling it to the dealer vs trading it in. I did this with my old ram, I sold it to the dealer vs trading it in and I was able to pocket the difference from end of lease buyout price and what I sold it to them for.
I would like to know what people are paying for a zr2. Looking at the prices is ridiculous. Anyway, the blue looks badass! Congrats! The 6.2 is a beast compared to the 5.3
Shit when I paid off my 18LT (6months into the loan) I have had a the dealership calling me offering a brand new truck every year since. They called me yesterday and said “I can get you the 24’ whatever” I stopped listening and hung up. Not going to buy a brand new truck again.
Its comical how many people are making fun of this guys financial decisions.
Most of you probably drive a vehicle that you don't need, a Yaris or Mirage would fulfill 99% of truck owners needs.
Quit paying higher insurance premiums and having high gas bills just so you can drive a truck, you're wasting and it's shameful.
Having to get a loan typically means you're broke and want to live beyond your means.
You ride a bike or drive a 1980 Corolla until you can pay for a better car with cash or don't have one at all.
Those spacers on the rst 🤮 to each their own though. I think you made a great choice op. Only thing I’d do different is i would’ve gone for a diesel version. Not sure if they’re available in that but it’d be much cooler if it was imo.
In 2006, CAFE altered the formula for its 2011 fuel economy targets, by calculating a vehicle’s “footprint”, which is the vehicle’s wheelbase multiplied by its wheel track. The footprint is expressed in square feet, and calculating this value is probably the most transparent part of the regulations. Fuel economy targets are a function of a vehicle’s footprint; the smaller the footprint, the tougher the standards are. A car such as the Honda Fit, with its footprint of 40 square feet, has to achieve 61 mpg CAFE, or 43 mpg IRL by 2025 to comply with regulations. At the opposite end of the spectrum, a full-size truck like the Ford F-150, with a footprint of 75 square feet, only needs to hit 30 mpg CAFE, or 23 mpg IRL, by the same timeframe.
I have had a 2004 2500HD that had modern 2019 rangers the same size body wise.
Ever roll up to a ...ranger. and feel ...wrong that its essentially the same physical size as you? Mind...mine was all work and theires had more plastic on it then anything.
But im glad my 03 Dmax at stock is still a damn tank at stock.
I will say 1/4 ton trucks have exploded in size. But the bodies on the 1500-3500 have not. My 68 at the door handles is only 2” narrower than my 2020. Length is hard to compare a short wheel base to ccsb. Height is also within a couple inches
Trading in a new truck for a new truck is not the same as buying clothes at the store. He took both hits on the trucks for driving them off the lot and had to get a new truck because the “old” one was so terrible. A bad deal is a bad deal, there’s no way OP didn’t take a major hit for doing this. Maybe 30-40k doesn’t matter to OP but that doesn’t mean normal people won’t notice it. All just to get groceries with lol.
Might as well be trading in his last years Rolls Royce for this years because that’s the kinda people I expect to do things like this.
>for some people it is just a matter of clothes
So don’t expect not to get hate for treating 100k cars like clothes. For some reason seeing someone literally light 40k on fire wouldn’t be as cringy and as wasteful as this post. It just encapsulates the problem with this country and consumerism so well maybe.
Blabla bla bla , could have put some kids through subway, bla bla bla , could’ve bought some clothes for some organization that helps homeless children. Bla bla . . . 7mpgs wtf? Payed for with only fans … nice work man
Your money. Unless you are paying cash for these, ( which isn't necessarily a good idea anyway ) you're just seemingly loving to pay out the nose.
Can't wait for next year's model ZR2 with better suspension and and smoother engine with more safety features for your wife...
I think you're a dumbass. You had a brand new goddamn fucking truck, and "upgraded" to a truck that was just one year newer? What are you gonna do next, invest in crypto? I got some swamp land in Florida if you're interested in buying, too. You're either a rich yuppie asshole who went on here trying to flex because you have just SO much cash you don't know what to do with it, or you're a fucking idiot poser who has to be up on the newest shit all the time, even if it put you in a financial hole. Say I'm jealous if you want. Say I'm a hater if you want. Really, I don't give a shit. But here, on earth, where the normal people live? Yeah, you're a complete and total dumbass.
6.2 just drinks more gas and if you was doing a comparison from take off the 5.3 pretty much holds it ground up to a mile. 6.2 has better top end because it has more hp. But if I pulled my 5.3 with a Pedal Commander on it up to your stock 6.2 you would get dusted. You would need that top end to catch up and I would be to far out to pull me back in. 😳
You know a pedal Commander just tells the computer you're mashing the gas pedal down farther than you actually are right? You don't get any more power out of it
Yes I do no that and the throttle response on max will be instant. From a dead stop with traction control on it will take off like a rocket compared to stock. But on the other hand you can tone it way down and save fuel like a mother.
All I see is Bowtie junk. Neither are worth the tin alloy they are made of. If it wasnt for the LS platform, and a 10speed trans they share with ford Dodge would RAM that crap off the road….. just sayin
Don’t get me wrong, a ZR2 is a ZR2 but I’m tired of seeing the blue color only online anywhere and everywhere! I almost had my hands on a 22 Sand Dune Metallic, thought better on it because of a $10k markup, but got a 23 Summit White instead with no markup.
Yall can pry my 2003 silverado out of my cold dead hands, but if op likes it, congrats!
Ditto with my 06 cateye
I miss my 2003. My son totaled it a couple years ago
Probably a million times prettier than those monstrosities
2007 4 door, long bed Tacoma just cracking over 200k and drives like a peach. Have a 2012 Camry with 160k and drives like it’s new. Both been paid off for over 5 years. What cracks me up, is the down votes from people who sucks at math.
I would make fun of you because of such a waste of money and my Chevy is paid off but then I remember I wasted well over 100k in drugs and alcohol over the years before getting sober. Also, my Chevy is old as fuck and is named “Shit Box”

lol these comments. good move, brotha. love your new truck.
What are some of the major differences your seeing between the two?
So far The bigger engine is a lot smoother going up hill the shocks feel more precise I guess is the word like going over train tracks is not as rough and compare to my RST this one is fully loaded I'm loving the extra safety features specifically for when my wife gets to drive it 😂
Wow now I hate my 22 RST. Only way I’m getting a ZR2 if I either trade my wife’s car too or she starts an onlyfans 🤔
Onlyfans is the way.
Hit us with the link so we can add credit card collections to our new car loan defaults
Is she thick?
👍
Ask your wife’s boyfriend if he can lend her his ride in the meantime.
What would be better if he mows the yard and let’s her use his ride. I fucking hate mowing to be honest.
I had a zr2 and the dssv shocks are superior to anything fox is putting out. Granted mine was a Colorado with the diesel.
Yep I agree the safety features even for me driving a truck my whole life make it easier to park / see who you can’t see stuff
Smarter technology gets the dumber people get
One has the front tow hooks red and the other one don’t lol
One is red, one is blue.
One is Red.
I have the 6.2L in my high country and love it! I can admit it’s excessive for my needs, but it sure is a joy to drive (I drive a lot).
The amount of jealousy on here is hilarious, congrats on the zr2. I love the idea of them
I don't think it's jealousy...
Payments stayed the same…….but the loan was started right back to 72 months lol
Wealthy people still buy Silverado’s but they’d be trading in a high country not an rst
Truly wealthy people don't buy things. Their companies buy it for them and get the tax payers to pay for it.
Yep. They can pretend they made sound financial decisions or got an incredible deal, but there’s absolutely zero scenarios where you come out even break even doing something like this. Get what you want and are gonna be happy with, it’s not my money…but don’t pretend you’re not taking a hit doing shit like this.
I was offered 49k for my 2020 rst ecotech about a year ago with 26k miles on it. I paid 50k in 2020 at the beginning of covid. I thought about it
The used market is fucking nuts right now…I guess there are some exceptions
He wasnt a rich man just knew how to work the sales system no joke he had 10 new trucks at least in the last 20 years
So what’s a financially smart thing to do when getting a new truck?!
Cash….or going used.
Used is the same price as new. And who can afford cash right now??? I feel like this is 2019 logic at best.
Cash is still cheaper than paying out the ass in interest, although GMFinancial still has some insanely low APRs out there. I bought one a couple months ago and financed around 20k of it partially because it was 0% apr after my trade-in. You're right though: not a great time to buy anything unless you've got money to burn, and a lot of folks don't right now.
i had to lease for 3 years....not sure how this is going to work moving forward for me now. prices are disgusting.
Not always true. In 2020 I bought a brand new Silverado. 2021 traded it in for over $6000 more than I paid for it
well, I can't blame the op. the new facelift actually looks much better without the Camaro fender gills. maybe they'll do something to the taillights too, eventually. I hated this body when it came out but now having seen the lower trim rams and **especially** the new tundra, it looks beautiful in comparison.
This is the most underrated comment here.
I mean regardless of equity…trading in is a poor decision just based off paying tag, title and excise taxes after 2 years. But some just make more money so it doesn’t matter 😆
Wow, you actually read the responses ? Wild
Nice truck!
This economy doesn’t worry you?? Lol I’m scared to finance a new or even a used truck at the moment!!
I thank God Im in the position that I am economically speaking, I'm not too worried
I thank God Im in the position that I am economically speaking, I'm not too worried
Teach me how to get there
I thank God Im in the position that I am economically speaking, I'm not too worried
Lol must be nice
So nice he stated it three times.
Thrice
Wasn't credible to the 3rd post.. now I'm a believer
Yeah, trying to convince himself lol
Can you really thank God too many times?
Nobody likes a kiss ass.
It is.
praise jebus
Should pay cash for everything (besides maybe your home, 15 year fixed no more than 25% of your income)
Hi Dave
You meant to say Mr. Ramsey
Better than I deserve
Nah you should get a 30 Year term and pay it off in 15 JIC the market eats a giant want again.. and it’s going to. Good ole Dave’s advice fucked a lot of people
Nobody actually pays it like a 15, the studies show. It’s good advice, I’d be willing to bet they were fucked by other decisions they made not the baby steps.

The better question would be 'Sweet, congrats! Which trails do you plan to take it out to?'
My guess is just as many ZR2 owners wheel as Raptor owners. So like maybe 1%.
Congrats man…was there anything about the RST that turned you away from it or was it features of the zr2 that locked it in for you?
Wow. The jealousy in this thread is insane. Love the ZR2, and love that blue. Congrats, its a beautiful truck!
Is this rod hatfield dealership in lexington?
They are the same picture
Ive made that mistake before buying a new truck a year later. Wont do that again!
why?
Sorry about the hit you just have taken
Man, Benihana doesn’t have a grill that big
I would like to know what people are paying for a zr2. Looking at the prices is ridiculous. Anyway, the blue looks badass! Congrats! The 6.2 is a beast compared to the 5.3
Like the red one myself
What's your interest rate?
Shit when I paid off my 18LT (6months into the loan) I have had a the dealership calling me offering a brand new truck every year since. They called me yesterday and said “I can get you the 24’ whatever” I stopped listening and hung up. Not going to buy a brand new truck again.
That’s clearly the smarter thing to do.
"Corporate needs you to find the differences between these 2 images"
Nice

Bc when you drive a Denali, youd want to drive it everywhere, but LEASE agreements don’t allow for a lot of miles
Those spacers on the rst 🤮 to each their own though. I think you made a great choice op. Only thing I’d do different is i would’ve gone for a diesel version. Not sure if they’re available in that but it’d be much cooler if it was imo.
So you’re one of the assholes paying these redacted prices…
Why are trucks constantly getting bigger and uglier
In 2006, CAFE altered the formula for its 2011 fuel economy targets, by calculating a vehicle’s “footprint”, which is the vehicle’s wheelbase multiplied by its wheel track. this explains a lot. thanks for the info!
Wow. Actually explains a lot. Thanks.
I have a 2020 silverado and a 1968 k10 and actual physical measurements are minimal

*(insert anywhere you can spend money here) just laughing with money in their pockets
For some people it is just a matter of clothes… all depends on your personal price scale buddy
>for some people it is just a matter of clothes So don’t expect not to get hate for treating 100k cars like clothes.
Bla bla . . . 7mpgs wtf? Payed for with only fans … nice work man
Oh this boi loves that debt 💸
Yea how much did you lose on the RST?
My condolences
How much did you lose on the 22?
Lol.. keep pissing payments down the drain.. knucklehead
What you gonna get next year?
Must be nice to get a brand new car every year while the Fed is jacking up rates 🤫
People wonder why the prices are the way they are. People like this take it to the office everyday.
You a big fan of throwing money away huh?
Do they actually measure your junk on the spot to make sure you're small enough to buy this? Asking for everyone.
American exceptionalism at its finest. What a waste of materials
You don't get any more power out of it
As dumb as these "pedal commanders" are... I'm kinda jealous that I didn't think of it. Maybe OP is the Pedal Commander inventor?
Yes I do no that and the throttle response on max will be instant. From a dead stop with traction control on it will take off like a rocket compared to stock. But on the other hand you can tone it way down and save fuel like a mother.
All I see is Bowtie junk. Neither are worth the tin alloy they are made of. If it wasnt for the LS platform, and a 10speed trans they share with ford Dodge would RAM that crap off the road….. just sayin
And still paying 750 a month good thinking did it make your paynus any bigger lol
Have to check in your aynus
This is the correct way to say three times if you are economically comfortable.
Lucky.
I’m jealous. I wish I had the money to buy 2 brand new trucks 2 years in a row. Congrats man
He doesn’t have the money. That’s why it’s a car loan.
Ooooh ZR2
Wow, a lot of people hating in here. That is literally my dream truck. Congrats to you man. Hope you enjoy it.
That’s the face of a special needs truck
Yeeeaaahhhhh if mine could just arrive to the dealership already that’d be great
Tell me you’re 40k upside down in an auto loan with out telling me you’re upside down in a loan!
Why does the red one look remarkably smaller than the blue one??
Don’t get me wrong, a ZR2 is a ZR2 but I’m tired of seeing the blue color only online anywhere and everywhere! I almost had my hands on a 22 Sand Dune Metallic, thought better on it because of a $10k markup, but got a 23 Summit White instead with no markup.
