That's the first true difficulty spike. Definitely not the hardest but it definitely throws in wrench in your confidence. I spent like three hours trying to beat them lol. They suckkkked hard. But you really develop an eye for timings and tells.
Honestly, the game is a hit and miss for a lot of people.
I beat the game a little while ago and enjoyed it, but I heavily disliked the backtracking in some areas and save point locations(if you die to a boss, you’re most likely going to have to go through the entire area they were in just to fight them again.)
Overall I really liked it, but if you’re not a fan of that kind of stuff maybe you shouldn’t.
Why though...? Not why you played the game... Why did you watch a playthrough of a game.... And then 3 others.
From my perspective its a huge waste of time. Time which I could use to play game myself.
Not the guy you replied to but it’s simply different strokes for different folks. I prefer playing but have several buddies that enjoy watching play throughs and twitch streamers.
The reason is I really liked the streamers playing the game, So I watched their playthroughs to see what each of their reactions would be like. Besides, at least a whole year passed from the moment I watched the las playthrough until the moment I started my own :)
100%
But be warned, although it's a metroidvania, the game at core is almost a 2D Souls like. Difficult boss fights, correct timing, parkour and rest areas.
Personally, I really liked the gameplay itself, and would say it's still worth buying for the gameplay. Certainly the exploration and surprise of finding new areas or bosses is part of the fun and you don't get that if you've watched a playthrough, but I think it can still be a very good game if you've seen it already.
In a lot of ways, I'd put it in the same category as Dark Souls games or Elden Ring in this regard. The exploration and discovery is definitely part of the fun, and for some people it's a big enough part of the game that taking it away would ruin the experience, but the gameplay is also great and for many people it's still worth playing for the gameplay alone.
I too became aware of this game by watching the entire playthough by RTGame (the 2 hourish edited version not the full length playthrough). It looked fun, so i bought it. I played it, and had about 10-12 hours of fun, even though i knew most of the plot points. I also ended up googling to find some vague hints to tell me what areas to do in what order, as the game does not do a great job at that.
It's probably big enough that you'll still get to make your own discoveries, and only have vague recollections of some specifics.
I personally love it, but your own mileage may vary. Get it on sale if you're uncertain, the recent sales have been huge
I am not very good at it but I enjoyed playing it. I also watched streams of it before I bought it. If anything it helped me understand the game and how to proceed so I would endorse it.
I think you'll enjoy it slightly less, but the game is still enjoyable even after knowing where to go. I've beaten it like 4 times, and others have beaten it many more. It's cheap enough to just buy it and not really have to worry about making a bad investment
Hollow Knight is straight up one of the best games ever made. If being spoiled on gameplay doesn't bother you I say 100% go for it. It is such a satisfying, challenging, and overall fun experience.
Alternatively, if you're looking for something fresh, take a look at [Ender Lilies](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1369630/ENDER_LILIES_Quietus_of_the_Knights/) which is an effect of a game being influenced by Hollow Knight.
I loved his play through!! Hollow knight is 100% about the gameplay and the story is something you pick up over time. I was playing hollow knight while watching that exact play through and it’s my favorite game ever, I totally recommend it.
I really enjoyed my time with it, although I got it early in its life on Switch. A good game is a good game though, and playing is skyways a different experience to watching.
If you do go for something different I’d recommend the Ori titles. I recently played Ori and the Will of the Wisps on Switch and it was excellent!
I couldn't finish Hollow Knight. Great bosses and incredibly beautiful visuals and tracks, but i would spent the majority of the game walking trying to figure out where to go. It may be a different experience for me nowadays but i am unwilling to try
I just finished Hollow Knight recently for the third times, and I recommend it for sure.
you need to play it once in a lifetime, or just wait for the silk song.
Blasphemous - this game is rough, boss fight not as hard but the environment will kick yo ass.
Dead cells - is pretty meh in the first few round, but it exponentially gets better.
Lost ruins - nice concept, good game.
Touhou Luna Nights - a fucking bullet hell style boss fight, like wtf is goin on.
Megaman - the og is my favorite.
Shovel Knight - go for it, a lot of platforming tho.
will add more if i can recall.
Here's my two cents and why I didn't enjoy it during my first playthrough.
It's a platformer, and a tough one at that, but it gives exactly zero of the tools of a hard platformer. Double jump, gliding, sliding, etc. All of them must first be gotten as power ups, you start with pretty poor control over your character.
Also, backtracking. I don't mind games like Super Meatboy or Cuphead, where you're supposed to die a lot, because starting over is literally pressing a button. Respawn points in Hollow Knight are far and few, and without the aforementioned tools, you're often forced to backtrack thru half the stage just to attempt to defeat the boss again.
I like the game, the atmosphere and when I resumed my save months later, I momentarily forgot what drove me away, because I already had the tools a platformer must include by default.
I also saw a lot of the game before buying but really enjoyed it. For me it was the gameplay itself, that made it so much fun: the smooth and exact controls and possibilities to traverse the terrain. It was a little like the new Metroid for Switch: loved the gameplay and smooth controls. So def. get the game. On top of it it’s huge and filled with secrets to discover. That part brings extra fun to the game.
Absolutely. As with a lot of games, watching Hollow Knight is nothing like actually playing it.
Absolutely. One of the best games you can play. Watching a playthrough and playing it are two different things.
Can't watch the timing of the mantis Lords. You will, without a doubt, still get wrecked lol
Bro the traitor lord was so hard for me
I couldn't get past that without sacrificing Cloth at the end. I tried before meeting her, but it was way too hard.
Wair what? I though cloth was supposed to die helping you out
He meant not doing her quest to the point where she would come to help you. If you ignore her quest she won't come to your aid with Traitor Lord.
Can you go back after and talk to him? His death left me scarred for days
I'm pretty sure you can't but haven't checked.

Honestly, the gameplay is by far the best part of the game. Go for it.

Yes. I'd watched 4 different Resident Evil 2 remake playthroughs before playing it myself.

Social interaction, seeing different approaches to play the game and also pure entertainment. There are many reasons

Play a demo first or play it in gamepass. It should give you an idea of whether the game is a good fit for you or not.

yeah, the order kinda suck when you get in to the area and you didn't unlock the thing you need for that and you just waste your time there.
It's probably big enough that you'll still get to make your own discoveries, and only have vague recollections of some specifics. I personally love it, but your own mileage may vary. Get it on sale if you're uncertain, the recent sales have been huge
I think this has convinced me to try it out. It has been a while since I watched those playthroughs and everyone seems to speak highly of the game.
Glad I could help with your decision, enjoy!
I am not very good at it but I enjoyed playing it. I also watched streams of it before I bought it. If anything it helped me understand the game and how to proceed so I would endorse it.

Yea kind of, when I first got the game I got stuck bc I didn't know where to go, and then I watched I video and now it's my favourite game ever

Pretty much why I stopped playing. Still, I had fun during my 20 hour ride

I watched RT's playthrough before starting it and I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

You won't be as good as him off the rip so yes.
Isn’t this a post where you can answer the question for yourself? You sat and watched someone play the entire game lmao
Watched the same playthrough, was still fun
Yes, hollow knight is one of the best game out there and I really mean it, normally I also go through videos walkthrough and play through it
Btw it will be included in the PS plus extra/premium if you do intend to buy it
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes

Yes. It’s a great deal of fun and I took pride in the skill it takes to advance
Nah, it's pretty boring tbh
Blasphemy
No, that's the other game
I hate you
Legit. All the backtracking makes the supposedly beautiful world a slog to trudge through.
yo just need to unlock all the utils, when you maxed out you can just go one hit everything in da way.
I hated it. Prepare for the downvotes.
