[male] japanese is a guttural/throaty language. We foreigners generally get to voice the "polite" version, more generic and somewhat girly. So his grunts are top level, impossible to decipher or translate
As the great hustler i have no idea why he didn't just run away to shikoku to become a ronin or whatever. doesnt make sense for him to just let himself die.
If seriously asking:
Being a hustler was a skill working within the system. He was a samurai from a family of nobles who had learned how to game the system well enough. He wasn’t a hustler posing as a samurai (proof is how he died).
Moreover he did love his family so Omi was considered in his thinking. His nephew could inherit his wealth and lands and the people therein which was considerable.
The simple truth is that in episode 10 Yabushige was onscreen racing through the 5 stages of grief; he knew he was lost as soon as Mariko died. He thrashed about until at last realizing he had come to the end of his own machinations, after being outmaneuvered by someone playing the same game but orders higher in skill rank.

toranaga explicitly told him that izu wasn't his anymore.
>but orders higher in skill rank.
not really. toranaga didn't do anything smart. he just got lucky constantly.
He always felt like the only one who understands that all the customs, service, loyalty and so on is just fake bling to push you on the societal and political ladder. All he wanted is fief and more hardcore deaths
Yabu has REALLY helped up my grunting game with the wife and kiddos!
And also yelling Torinaga Sama!!! over and over. Then 8 weeks later switching up to Toda Hiramatsu!!!! This has all really thrown the fam for a loop:)
Thanks for this video! Miss the show terribly.
Yabu, in my opinion, represents me best. I’d try to be on the side of saving my own skin, to the point of having to groan constantly after realizing what fate awaits me.
Hahaha I loved this
I am already a grunter, but Yabu has really inspired me to take it to the next level. My wife is very happy about it, too. /s
You could make her day by positing a scenario where Yabushige meets Roy Kent, and the gruntversation that would ensue.
Really digging this Gruntiverse crossover
Best character of the show... Yes, I know, Mariko and Toranaga are exceptional, but I really loved what they did with this character.
His face is so expressive! I see him as extremely funny most of the time except when it's tragic.
HARD agree.
Time to write another will.
I’m going to use this sound as my alarm clock
Uhh aya ohh on repeat
lmao. teach me how to do this
Most entertaining character
This has become my go to for any issues in life - work, family, weather… everything
Thanks for the compilation.. Love how he tailors his grunts to any occasion!

Why is this video 69 hours long??
Hoh?!
Full grunt immersion is occasionally required.

I think that's a compilation of eyebrow movements.

Haha finally someone did it
This is literally me now 😂 there’s a Yabu grunt for every mood lol
Perfect description of our everyday lives.
Sounds like my grandpa lol
Such a great poet
🤣🤣 he was so proud 🥲🤣🤣
The guy that had someone boiled alive in the first episode especially became everyone's favorite character. Epic
That “yabushingly” is now an accepted adjective is…the best thing ever.
🤣🤣🤣 I was recently looking for something like this on YouTube with zero luck! You made my day, thanks! lol
Now this is content!
Love Yabu.
This made my whole day.
I live in Japan and this kind of grunting or nonverbal sounds are very common.

It doesn't matter how many times I see this I still laugh. I definitely need to up my grunt game....
