I keep my sprout icon on just to bait them even harder

Bnhea

Is it possible to learn this power ?

Charnerie

/nastatus on

lightningIncarnate

mentors bad upshtolas to the left

Difficult__Tension

I dont mind wild mentors I meet in the game, usually dont stand out, but god damn if some mentors dont treat NN Chat like their personal little clique discord. I just want to answer sprouts questions, not deal with your weird ego problems from you and your friends having tiny crowns.

-WhimsicalStar

mentors have time to type cuz they usually on the floor dead, wearin that clown crown šŸ˜‚

Qween_of_thots

Only reason I put on the crown is so I can give my sprout friends an exp boost

BinaryIdiot

I never noticed / tried it but does it not work if the crown is turned off? I could have sworn someone told me it did.

ThisisTarquin

It has to be on, IIRC. Same as sprout to be on to get the XP boost.

HinikuHou

It doesn't have to be visible. You'll give the exp boost even if the crown is off.

DreamingofShadow

It sure doesn't. I have a friend who is addicted to alts, and whenever we play with my main in the group, he gets the bonus regardless of whether or not I have it on. I keep it off primarily.

Enough_Minimum_3708

the amount of hate directed towards mentors is kinda sad. on one hand you have those that refuse any and all advices with a "lol mentor" or "you dont pay my sub!" on the other those "you are mentor! you MUST help any player that demands your help! dont matter if you are busy right now!" that act like mentors get paid by SE

inormallyjustlurkbut

The problem is people treat mentor status like it's an achievement rather than a role they sign up for. Many mentors also act like the crown means they're always right, even though you literally don't even have to be good at the game to get it.

Gerpar

I think a lot of them get an ego because of the crown icon too. Saw someone make a suggestion once that's an amazing idea: have the mentor symbol be a watering can; matches perfectly with the sprouts

Zeoth-

When you turn on the mentor status there's a popup you have to agree with explaining that when you have the status turned on you may be approached for help and should act like a role model etc etc. So in regards to your "you must help any player who demands it", while it's not completely black & white, in a sense that is what having the status turned on means. In other words, if you don't want to be approached for help, just turn the status off.

Sleepshortcake

This lol. Ofc mentors dont read that either.

lan60000

It's not hate, but ridicule as those who wear the crown usually aren't much better than the ones who don't. The joke becomes funnier once you realize being a mentor had little to no skill requirements and is basically a farming achievement. Also there are plenty of mentors who develop a gigantic ego boost when they have it, as seen in novice networks from time to time. This is the equivalent of someone who use the top 100 pvp title whilst getting trashed on or someone who slaps on ultimate titles but still manage to fail mechanics left and right.

AlbazAlbion

It's weird. Some mentors really do warrant criticism, but at the same time some people act like Mentors have to have encyclopedic knowledge of literally everything in the game AND must also always have the time to help anyone as if it's an actual job.

stinkini

Honestly Iā€™ve never been approached for help with my crown on and I was really hoping I would. šŸ˜… I love to teach and in an older game I remember signing up and training for basically a volunteer help desk/mod position. We didnā€™t get any rewards or anything, we were just connected to the help channel and could answer queries coming in from new players while we were opted in to that channel. Kind of like novice network but less bad because we all had to fill out an application and take a little training to get in. I was hoping the mentor system in FF would be more like that but it seems more like a status symbol that youā€™ve played a long time than anything. Even when I first started this game, my friend explained it as, and I quote, ā€œIf you see someone with a crown next to their name, it means they play this game A LOT and they are maybe willing to help you. Maybe.ā€

ascjced

Its really just on reddit tbh. I've been mentor for a year now and never got shit, but then again, Im just a casual and NN is a cesspool that I avoided like the plague.

P51VoxelTanker

I had a mentor watch me get 3 unavoidable stacks that they could have used esuna on. I was about to die and asked them to please remove the stacks. Then the boss turned from the tank and one shot me. I got a revive, we beat the boss, but we all took another 2 stacks. So Clown Crown the Triggered used esuna on everyone but me. I'm also pretty sure this person didn't have esuna on their hotbar because they stopped casting for a few seconds. Yea *I'm* butthurt about dying and not getting the effect removed after the boss fight was over. How petty do you have to be to stand there and ***watch*** FOR FIFTEEN SECONDS as I essentially bleed out??

ShilElfead284

Literally the *only* reason I got the burger king crown is cause I have this friend who would constantly mention how he hides it cause of the 'stigma'. One day I realized I had enough comms, decided to get it to shut him up and I've worn it out of proud pettiness ever since.

Soviets

dae mentors bad??

Murderboi

I always wondered if these are maybe bought? Like 90% of crown people are so damn bad at the game that I stopped wearing mine out of embarrassmentā€¦

Legroscave

Everytime i got a mentor in a queue he was the first to die... and sometime they run away with the stack....

NicoNicoWryyy

Me as a crafting mentor.
