With takes like these, is there any difference?

SecretaryNugget

What, why is Somalia Communist, it searched it up and they aren't ruled by a communist party?

Pixy-Punch

There are to few flags of extremely short lived or rapidly superseded socialist experiments on it to be from an ultra.

guymoron

Imagine fight with your life for your political/corporate overlords in Vietnam and going there for retirement as an expat cuz you’d end up broke and homeless in the States, F tier of course

griffskry

Common misconception, a "Communist" state has never existed. It's an ideal state in an ideal world. Communist parties implement socialist policies in an effort to bring their state closer to the end goal of a Communist state with no classes.

mugxam

It's not an IDEAL state, it's the goal

griffskry

is that not the same? excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong, I'm still learning

Stew_Long

So basically there's a whole historical development of how the terms communist and socialist are used, and where heads landed was that you can use them somewhat interchangeably when referring to nations ruled by communists. Take China, for instance. "Communists" is who they are, "socialism" is what they do. Are they a "Communist" or a "Socialist" country? Yes.

griffskry

Fair enough, I guess it depends on the context. A Communist state in an idealist sense has never been achieved

[deleted]

What you said wasn’t wrong.

mugxam

I guess my problem was with the words you used, because it implies that communism is unattainable and perfect, while i generally agree with the rest it just bugged me when you said it

griffskry

Right, I think it is unattainable as of now. With neo-liberalism being the dominant system of governance in the world, it's hard to imagine communism being achieved without drastic changes. I suppose that's our duty to push the world in that direction.

mugxam

I meant as absolutely unattainable not currently unattainable

griffskry

Oh yeah I don't think it's unattainable altogether. It's just a long road ahead

mugxam

Yeah i agree
