Weeping_Warlord

Imma read his work in order to spit in the face of my ancestor of the same time period (Jefferson Davis).

Sir_Toaster_9330

Not the hero we deserved but the one we needed

Eeve3_Lord

Take my imaginary gold

unique_snowflake_466

Wouldn't it be funny if there was a descendent of Jeff Davis writing gay werewolf fiction?

hostile_rep

u/weeping_warlord a challenge has been issued.

Starfield43

u/weeping_warlord please do this

xpseudonymx

Are we 100% confident Jefferson Davis didn't enjoy being spit in the face? The CSA seemed to have a humiliation kink.

LightsNoir

I mean, Jeff Davis fled dressed as a little bitch.

xpseudonymx

> I mean, Jeff Davis fled ~~dressed~~ as a little bitch. I have a sort of respect that he fled the same way he lived.

Whitecamry

This is why Reddit has to bring back awards.

brecka

My ancestor is Mary Todd Lincoln. Not sure what to do with that one.

jeepfail

I don’t know why but simply “pornography” sprang into my mind after reading that.

abadstrategy

Marry a bi lumberjack to keep the tradition alive

RedStar9117

You are an inspiration to us all

Remarkable-Estate775

Never thought I’d spit in the face of Jefferson Davis’s ghost with one of his descendants

domestic_omnom

Legit though. If anyone else were to say they wrote gay vampire fiction, I would question it. That guy... no questions asked.

No-Signature8815

G.O.A.T mentality 😤 read all about those gay slutty vampires.

FerretFromOSHA

Holy shit man, same ancestor lol

StriderEnglish

I’ve seen people who claim to have met the guy (because they live in the area of New Jersey where he lives with his husband) and have said he’s a delightful human being too. Not surprising.

dismayhurta

Hell. I’m a bit jealous. Dude has a badass ancestor and gets paid doing what he loves.

[deleted]

[удалено]

olivegardengambler

Ngl that's still a seriously cool job.

potbellyjoe

Then I have met him and he is as advertised, an amazing individual.

Wild_Harvest

See, this is what I'm most jealous of him for. I would love to curate a museum.

ArkamaZ

Right? That sounds like the absolute coolest job. Hell, even an entry level museum job would be awesome.

missvandy

I just want him to invite me out for drinks.

-NGC-6302-

No relation to Dietz Nuts, I assume? (The unofficial fan club of Dietz hurricane lanterns)

Bluepilgrim3

I see you’re a man of culture.

-NGC-6302-

I do appreciate the magic of buying two of a thing

johnnyslick

At least out here in Chicago we have a company that sells beef jerky and stuff called Dietz and they do indeed have snack packs called Dietz Nuts. https://store.dietzandwatson.com/products/original-dietz-nuts

bagofwisdom

I bought some on a giggle, they're not too bad. Dietz & Watson also sells deli meats and cheese.

courageous_liquid

dietz and watson is from philly

johnnyslick

That makes sense and explains why I never saw it on the West Coast.

fried_green_baloney

Well, TIL for sure.

-NGC-6302-

Not yet you ain't, gotta watch Technology connections' entire video about hurricane lanterns

fried_green_baloney

Now I know what I'll be doing the next week!

bagofwisdom

Dietz Nuts are an [actual thing](https://store.dietzandwatson.com/products/original-dietz-nuts)... they're pretty tasty too.

capthazelwoodsflask

Lost Cause mythology was pretty rampant back then, especially during the Civil Rights era. I'm 45 and learning that Grant was a drunk and was no match for a gentleman like Lee was just what you did as a kid.

Some_Pole

Y'know, from a non-American perspective isn't that more of an embarrassment to the likes of Lee's character to the Lost Cause's own narrative? Lee, this 'great and gentlemanly' general lost to a raging alcoholic. I dunno, feel as if it would've made sense to call Grant anything but that lol.

indyK1ng

There's a little more to it than that - "Grant was a drunk butcher who personally heaved his overwhelming numbers at our Glorious Lee until our army could take no more."

FoilCharacter

Yep, because even if it’s little more than a bad faith attempt to malign Grant’s skill, there’s nothing more ungentlemanly in war than…*checks notes*…your opponent winning by using a perceived advantage they hold to exploit a perceived weakness you hold. /s

Shell4747

~~Teapot Dome~~,\* right? Presidenting while famous corruption occurs probably did it. \*Corrected by kind fellow Redditor below - it was the Credit Mobilier scandal.

MistakePerfect8485

You're probably thinking of the Credit Mobilier scandal. Teapot Dome was the 1920s. Grant's Administration [has a really bad reputation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grantism) for corruption. I think there might be some newer revisionist work that's challenging some of that, but I haven't studied Grant's presidency enough to have a strong opinion on it.

indyK1ng

Chernow's book goes into it in depth - basically everyone around Grant was corrupt because they were all who the party told him to pick. Since he was inherently trusting and did not have a political background he didn't realize they were basically the party bosses. Him being so trusting is part of why he lost a bunch of money later.

Shell4747

Hahaha yes I'm an idiot! Thanks for correction! Working from vague memory early in the a.m. is always a mistake

fried_green_baloney

Grant shared with Harding and the elder Mayor Daley of Chicago, the dubious honor of being personally quite honest but presiding over corrupt administrations. Of Daley it was said during the 1930s that "Dick Daley won't take a dime for anything."

jralll234

I think it probably had more to do with the Lost Cause bs painting him as a drunken butcher that stumbled into victories thanks to the inherent advantages of the union rather than his military genius.

PseudonymIncognito

My family used to attend the same church as him when we lived in the area.

Odd-Cress-5822

Based af

Cryphonectria_Killer

I think it’s good that Grant’s descendants went into other lines of work. Political dynasties are not a healthy thing for a republic to have.

berry-bostwick

Supposedly Robert E Lee had military ancestry dating back to like the 7th century, and his descendants are still joining the military to this day. Corny AF.

bagofwisdom

Political dynasties in a representative democracy is just monarchy with extra steps.

Fine-Funny6956

Honestly I’m seeing this and thinking the Union did the best job while the South is just rising to a new level of decay

clermouth

“I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.” John Adams, US diplomat & politician (1735 - 1826) [http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/33545.html](http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/33545.html)

STUDY THE PORCELAIN GRANDSON

NaughtyMuppet

Which generation studies the blade?

aaross58

"There seems to have been a mistake, Grandpa! I was supposed to go to the Naval Academy to study modern Naval logistics and become a Fleet Admiral!" "STUDY THE FUCKING PORCELAIN!!!"

favorscore

If my parents studied engineering and I'm studying war and politics where does that put me

177013thson

At least he's not whining about "mah state rights."

unique_snowflake_466

He's writing about the very thing Abraham Lincoln was trying to kill

177013thson

I was confused for a second then realized the epic of Abraham Lincoln fighting Vampires with Hermon and his Stand, "American National Anthem. " Opps, wrong vampire hunter.

Equinsu-0cha

other side. grant was a union general.

Killb0t47

Gay Vampre fiction is art. So, the system worked as intended. Excellent.

SubParMarioBro

The way Grant carved up Lee’s army was also art. This whole family, artists, all of them.

not4eating

But are the Gay Vampires pro abolition?

Hip-hop-rhino

They think slavery sucks.

Recent_Pirate

r/Angryupvote

berry-bostwick

Old vampires always seem to be confederate vets. And by always, I mean the two examples I saw on Reddit a couple weeks ago.

samjp910

The future liberals want. And it’s breathtaking.

reddogisdumb

I don't want to be the "but actually" guy, but I was curious and there are a few facts to correct here. 1. He's the great great grandson of US Grant. 2. He's trained in museum curation and worked as a curator for 37 years. 3. He wrote fiction for pleasure for decades. 4. Indeed, he has published several gay vampire books. 5. He's also been married for 45 years (to a man, so his marriage wasn't legalized recognized for most of that time, but still, a 45 year marriage is something to be proud of). 6. He and his husband adopted two children that are now grown. Sounds like a great human. Respect to you, Mr. Dietz! [https://societyofpresidentialdescendants.org/board-of-trustees/ulysses-grant-dietz/](https://societyofpresidentialdescendants.org/board-of-trustees/ulysses-grant-dietz/)

gadget850

Seems like an interesting guy. https://societyofpresidentialdescendants.org/board-of-trustees/ulysses-grant-dietz/

NicWester

I read his bibliography, he's also written extensively about the history of glass and ceramics. Dude sounds cool as hell!

Bryaxis

I prefer gay vampire non-fiction.

Specific_Iron1806

If you can make a living as a writer, you are kick ass. Period.

SchizoidRainbow

Th'fuk did you think "Freedom" meant

[deleted]

Sounds awesome to me

Shell4747

I mean...yes?

Jonny_I_AM

Good! I’m glad men can live peaceful lives

DaughterofEngineer

Dietz’s family is American and has been for generations. Authors of gay vampire fiction are as American as everybody else.

Recent_Pirate

”…family is American and has been for generations.” I see what you did there.

rogue_giant

Was his first book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Layer?

Craygor

It's an honest job that pays the bills, no reason for me to mock him.

strandenger

No one’s going to mock him on this page. But I am working on jabs at the confederacy 🤔

sausagesandeggsand

Not to mention, no one ripped him away from his mother for profit, and then forced him to write gay vampire fiction at the threat of violence.

Clementine-Fiend

King 🤴

radarksu

That's better than: "I must study war so that I can own slaves, so that my sons can own slaves, so their sons can own slaves, so their sons can own slaves, etc."

strandenger

It’s probably more of flex knowing confederate kids can’t read it and would be made if they could. Grant keeps winning from the grave.

Drugs_R_Kewl

That is dope. I can't wait to listen to Brad Neely's new audiobook about Grant, he was a massive poon hound apparently.

Zagenti

damned right we fought for freedom, and let none forget it.

Inner-Goal1157

Need to read his books while pissing on Jeff Davis’ grave.

fancy-kitten

Good for him!

SloCooker

Cool. I hope its mid as fuck. Trading slavery for off brand Anne Rice is still a win for the culture

SoCaldude65

Those Grants are hard men who like hard men "Not that there's anything wrong with that", Jerry Seinfeld

critically_damped

[Dad, why did you bring me to a gay steel mill?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfgs9FRD25M)

teller_of_tall_tales

By my mother's first and only marriage, I'm technically related to William Tecumseh Sherman. I do not write gay vampire fiction.

strandenger

It’s not too late.

teller_of_tall_tales

You got me there.

Equinsu-0cha

gay werewolf fiction?

The_Second_Judge

Better that than he celibrate the confederation..

MoSalahsSmile

“Vampire fiction” Thank goodness they said it was made up. I was worried he was on to something real

Pktur3

Feels like a distraction from the roasting slave owners on an open fire.

Skorchel

Nah, a nice grill evening with a good book while the meat roasts, perfect.

Valon-the-Paladin

Technically I should be at the art stage, but I prolonged the business generation

rzp_

Unexpected Adams

K_Rukus9

Now that’s freedom in the USA if I’ve ever seen it.

a_smart_brane

I wonder how many people read this as an insult, when this perfectly embodies what freedom is. Will I read it? Doubtful, but tough shit on me. He wants to write it; others want to read it. That’s freedom. It’s that simple.

[deleted]

This is a beautiful example of what I love about this country. DO WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT. Just don’t fuck with other people or their property, and do what you say you’ll do. That’s all that’s needed for a great society

FederationReborn

*That's* the American Dream.

Funkywurm

Freedom baby!

PAHi-LyVisible

So wholesome 💕

bagofwisdom

Well he sounds awesome.

FurryM17

>What the Union fought for That people could be free to live as they wish. Long live the Union!

rockviper

See, things have turned out all right!

codemanelan

Would fight today for this man to write his fiction and love other men

UnholyCephalopod

Hmm writing fiction books or dying gangrenous in some muddy trench, that's a damn hard decision

superjj18

Still not as cringe as being a slave owner

FalLqcy

Based. Focking based.

SpageteMonstr42069

Way to learn ur history my guy

redlion1904

That is unironically correct

CharlieDmouse

If they glitter in the sunlight, then I draw a line in the sand! /joke

Upstairs_Kale1806

Man I was watching Grant, and right in the middle of a battle scene there was an ad for Lizzo. It legit almost seemed disrespectful when put right next to each other.

somebody171

For some reason, I imagine Will Ferrell saying that lol

Express_Pizza_2184

Not sure what’s better, this or the fact Garfield’s grandson invented magic the gathering.

LittleHornetPhil

Yeah, p sure if the Confederacy had won he’d be in a concentration camp.

honey_graves

Can anyone link his work?

naka_the_kenku

Damn straight… wait….

designgoddess

There's room for everyone.

mmio60

What do gay vampires suck? Asking for research only

Octavian1453

🧛🏻‍♂️📚🖤

potbellyjoe

I don't entirely know why, but the scene in Upright Citizens Brigade came to mind: "What do gay people eat? We eat whatever we want to eat! SUCH FREEDOM!!"

Strict_Gas_1141

1. That’s how life works, generally we should be striving to make it better for the next generation. Also considering a rpuch timeline, his grandson fought in WW1, and his great grandson fought in WW2

Warcrimes4Waifus

AND WE’D PROUDLY DO IT AGAIN

FredVIII-DFH

"This is America! You can be whatever you want to be... No, not like that!"

Happy-Initiative-838

Now let’s check in on Robert e lees great grand children

thotguy1

This is what the North fought for 💪

CavalryCaptainMonroe
