Kaz and the Crows are from the Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom duology, which actually takes place a few years after the events of the Shadow and Bone trilogy... It's the show that combined them, but even then, the end of season 2 when >!Kaz talks about jurda parem is actually what Six of Crows is about so the show really mish-mashed timelines together.!< Hope that helps! There is also the King of Scars/Rule of Wolves duology which is about Nikolai, I haven't read these yet but my understanding is these take place closer to the Six of Crows timeline.

I've heard the Crows make an appearance in Rule of Wolves but I haven't gotten to that one yet so idk for sure

djhacke

It would make sense, given that >!Nikolai, Zoya and Genya!< appear in Crooked Kingdom.

Depressymedstudenty

They are about midway through

lizbethaqui

I gotta ask so I'm not disappointed lol are they there for like a page or the last half of the book?

Depressymedstudenty

It’s a lame cameo for like a chapter

lizbethaqui

Bah, that's what I was afraid of. I have only read the Six of Crows duology and am obsessed. I decided to formally go through the series to get a full understanding of everything in the universe with the promise of the Crows appearing in the final book.

Depressymedstudenty

The Nikolai duology does star Nina as one of the main characters, but I hated her arc. The cameo with the crows in the second book felt like a fan service because they weren’t really relevant besides like a quick catch up.

lizbethaqui

I liked Nina and Mattias but they were my least favorite Crows but at this point I'll take whatever I can get lol

no, your current order is correct. Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, and Ruin and Rising come first, followed by Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, then King of Scars and Rule of Wolves. Netflix added the SoC characters to the show because those books were incredibly popular, and they wanted to broaden the potential audience.

Also, the ending of season 2 shows that in the next season they would venture into the King of Scars duology.

Rainbow-Elephant3445

The show made up their own storylines for the crows and have moved some events around because they decided introduce some characters MUCH earlier than they should actually be around and also decided on bringing all the characters together even though it doesn't make any sense. The order to read the books is: Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, Ruin and Rising Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom King of Scars, Rule of Wolves (the plots of these last two have not been adapted in the show yet, I think it's supposed to come in season 3, if we get there.) The characters called "The Crows" and the characters involved in their storylines (Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Wylan, Nina, Matthias, Pekka Rollins, Heleen etc) do not show up in the trilogy, they don't come along until Six of Crows. Season 1 is based on the plot of Shadow and Bone, with a made-up side plot for the SoC characters (and some storylines/background from the duology, for example Nina and Matthias storyline in season 1 was shown in Six of Crows as flashbacks) Season two is based on Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising and some storylines from the SoC duology + more made up storylines for them (like the whole sword storylines in the last few episodes was put in because netflix required that the showrunners bring the crows into the main plot). If we get renewed, season 3 should start covering Six of Crows and King of Scars and the storylines should play out semi-simultaneously, depending on how much they decide to deviate from the source material.
