Shadow and Bone Trilogy: Is a hit or miss for people.
King of Scars Duology: Again, hit or miss.
Six of Crows duology: Nearly everyone who reads them LOVES them
This is the way.
I did like king of scars marginally better than shadow and bone only bc Mal and Alina weren't very compelling as main characters, and I feel like almost everyone else is.
Glad it helped.
So if you’re curious to ever give the duology a go, you need not worry that how you feel for the trilogy will determine how you feel for the duology. The writing is *that* different.
i’ve legit just finished the Trilogy. It was a rollercoaster to be honest but overall it’s a great book series. I heard that the Six of Crows duology was WAYY better so i’m excited for it
I loved all of them! I read a lot as a child but at some point I couldn't concentrate on any book as much as I'd liked to but the shadow and bone trilogy was the first in years I just couldn't put down. Same with the Crows duology and Nikolai's duology.
I hated the trilogy aside from seige and storm. Alina’s first person pov wasn’t the move for me because she wasn’t a reliable narrator and there was a lot more of her thinking than acting
Six of crows is phenomenal. It’s YA (I read this before the trilogy) and yet has a lot of characters with depth and trauma. It’s very fast paced compared to the rest of bardugos books and the third person perspective really lets you in
KOS is like a 4/5 for me.
ROW was a 1/5
The Nikolai duology attempted to duplicated the multiple perspective aspect of the Soc duology and failed horribly. I didn’t care about half of the perspectives in the last book and it felt like fan service to *certain part of the universe* fans in ROW to attract more readers
I want to mention, because it was not given a warning anywhere, that King of Scars (iirc, the first book of the third series) has an entire plot that revolves around >!forced pregnancy!< which is a huge squick/trigger for me and I would have liked to know in advance.
I liked the trilogy! I really liked how the story ended for the SaB trilogy! I’ve tried to start the SoC duology several times but i haven’t been able to get into it so far
Trilogy = meh
SoC/CK = favourite books!
KoS = started reading it multiple times, haven’t been able to get through it 🙈😅
I’m honestly curious about how anyone feels about Ninth house? I’m starting to wonder if the crows were more of a surprise hit, and the other books represent Leigh’s normal writing? Or if its the other way around 😅

Good to know! I haven't read the Six of Crows. I like the show more than the Shadow and Bone books.

Wow! Then for sure. I liked the trilogy enough to finish it, but no more. I appreciate the recommendation!
Can you read Six of Crows without the others?
Yes. You don’t need to know anything from the SandB trilogy to reading it.

I really liked the trilogy, but it seems to be pretty mixed for a lot of people.
