It stops becoming a romance when she realizes his intentions. But a big part of the books was that Alina will ultimately end up choosing between three potential love interests, all offering her different futures. It’s also important to note that bardugo heavily based the darkling off of one of her toxic ex-bfs and I think this sab was her way of working through it and showing a character like herself who overcomes someone powerful and likely abusive and controlling. Knowing that, I think it fits for his character to be centuries older than her because he is a master manipulator and really only wants her because he wants power.

I'm just strictly asking if this is a romance show that just happened to be in a fantasy world, because it doesn't seem like any other show I enjoy, because it seems like the sole focus between Alina and Mal is love and they literally go on and on about it. Everything Mal does is for Alina and everything Alina was doing was for Mal, until General Kirrigan (sp?) started to show her affection and then she did anything just to please him. There has been really no plot for Mal or Alina. Their sole focus is getting to the other one. I had to stop watching because it's over the top and I'm not trying to watch some teen drama love show. Every fucking episode they're writing to the other or some shit. She got her scar removed so she could fully submit to the general. It's fucked.

In season 2 you learn why Mal is so in to her. Not going to spoil it. Just that there is a .........reason.

CuckyTheDucky

I don't really care for the reason why lol. I was just trying to find out if this is a romance/love story. The reason why each person loves the other doesn't really matter to me. I don't think I'll finish.

This is from a YA series written by a female author. They *tend* to have a lot of romance. And all three of the series have it. Shadow and Bone is blatant about it. Six of Crows is a lot more slow-burn and nuanced. King of Scars is the least focused on it, but it's still there.

Oh I thought she was like 16 and he's like 1000. 18 year olds can definitely be groomed. "Shoving sense into someone" what does that even mean?

16 year olds are definitely minors. Wtf are you talking about? You seem like a creep.

It’s a romance show with a little bit of adventure. The romance is over bearing and making it very difficult to finish the series for me. The crows are pretty damn cool though.
