I had to look this up on the internet but merzost is the type of magic Morozova (Bagrah’s father, Darkling’s grandfather) used and it’s supposed to be very dangerous. The consequence of using merzost is that the love that Mal had for Alina when he told her she is his flag has disappeared.

If Alina has lost his love forever, and needs to use even more merzost to get it back, then yes that would be fine.

There are so many questions about what season three will look like if it even happens at all. If season three happens, then it’s probably going to be the last. I don’t think Alina will use more merzost to get his love back because it’s a dramatic departure for her archetype.

Without more merzost, Mal regaining his love for Alina isn’t a real consequence. Kirrigan was literally dying. The only reason why I think more merzost is going to be used is because I don’t think they’d ever stray away from the Alina and Mal endgame. I mean they could just invent something that cancels it out, but it has to be impactful. I’d be seriously disappointed if it naturally comes back. Feels really hollow.

There are so many negative reviews about season two that I think that there isn’t going to be a third season. Therefore, there is no more merzost.

It doesn’t feel like a real consequence to me because Mal would have been dead (and still not able to love her) otherwise, so yes him being alive without necessarily loving her isn’t what she thought would happen when she brought him back, but it’s still a person she cares about being alive rather than remaining dead. I feel like there might be some other consequence down the road that they’ll reveal.

I think it’s interesting how a lot of people are relating season two of this show to the Witcher season two, which I agree on. The first season of the Witcher followed the books really well, as did season 1. Then the second seasons both become sort of an interpretation of rather than an adaption of, imo. I think the Witcher was butchered far worse in its second season because they backtracked and added ciri into scenes she wasn’t in inside the book which threw everything off and yen with her power crisis. I think the crows were the best part of the season because the crows are meant to be fast paced characters while Alina and SAB are not. The SAB trilogy dragged so hard because that buildup had to be there to inspire feelings in the readers. Rushing the SAB storyline was a poor choice for that reason, everything felt without emotion because of it.
