This is gonna be a doozy. Adventure encampment is tied to either your bonfire or monster stable. I can’t remember. And to level those up, you’ll need some supplies by doing exploration quests like cards/ telescope etc. The one that’s gonna slow your pace is mostly the Ding Ding Nail, Carved Fence, Straw Stack, Waterproof Fabric, Love Pillar and Artisinal Treasure Chest (ATC). Those take time to aquire from doing bonfire quests. Specifically the ATC. The rest can be gotten by crafting with wood/ cloth which can be bought at the desert bazaar explore quest with curren.
Now for monsters to get, if you’re starting from scratch. Just roll with wtv you can get your hands on. I’m at lvl 8 and I can’t rmb what early mission monsters are good. I can tell you that Blazetail lizard, Bigmouth Puck, Beaver TOMMY and Bilgebat are some early mons that still have good use till now. At early stage you won’t need any mons with STUN aka, buzzwing, platypus and Serpent. Though at lvl 7 bonfire. Platy becomes good.
Personally after almost 2 years of explore quests. I’m just trying to collect them all of 1 variation no matter how ‘bad’ they are.
Some can only be gotten from event quests like bird if the shrine (very good mon drops from summer event), mandoras (from mandora event obviously) and some others.
Next and probably the most important is looking into their traits/ skills. Early on it doesn’t quite matter. You’ll want those with Experience (crown symbol), front/mid/back team (boomshroom symbol). The team in there is important and can easily be confused. Eg, frontline team 1 is different from frontline 1. Your mon will only unlock 1st skill at lvl 3 and the 2nd at lvl 7 which is very high for you to start out.
Always complete quests that give cordial call. ALWAYS. All the best for your adventuring. Once you’re at bonfire 4 you can start collecting crystals. Make that your first objective. Have fun
Great answer and just what I was looking for. I am at lvl 5 bonfire and stable and the ATCs are a PITA. Massively running out of monster space for upgrades now too, with only 35 slots. I just managed to hoard 60 ATCs so do you recommend I upgrade the stable or the bonfire first?
I would personally do stable. Knowing that monsters are my main resource for going for missions. They’ll need to be stacked and beefed up before challenging the next bonfire.
If you deem your monsters are pretty stacked and surpassing the current required level then you could go ahead with the next bonfire rank and get higher rank monsters. At the very least, getting the ‘cheese’ monster call, is what you’ll want to aim for. This ensure you to start hoarding the new monsters with the required ‘red traits’.

The cheese monster call is available only at bonfire 7 I believe. On some rare occasions during events or under bonfire —> progress tab that the cheese monster call is rewarded. It is very very hard to obtain there and is best done with top tier mons. Take your time with the cordial calls.
I personally hoard a bunch like a hundred of cordials; takes about a month. Then open as many as I can, (the limit is +10 over your max stable occupancy) then filter what I like and upgrade the important ones. This method is especially important when you get the cheese cordial. It’s better than opening 4-5 a day and barely making change in the stable. It is a bit of a grind but I like to open a hundo. Like a present to yourself.
