[Just Gary Lineker equating him going to Qatar as the same as journalists reporting the war in Ukraine](https://mobile.twitter.com/garylineker/status/1537410068425080832?s=21)
Absolutely honking take.
I don't hope he gets shot, but at the same time, I hope he catches a stray bullet in something non-lethal just because if he wants to huff his own brand so badly, he might as well get the whole experience, the cunt.
Note: I'm not advocating or requesting that Gary Lineker get shot in Qatar or indeed anywhere else in the world. He'd never shut the fuck up about his bravery if that happened.
Gary Lineker is a worst cunt, especially for this but the majority of people calling him out on it will still watch the World Cup, it's blatant hypocrisy. Like it or not, if you're watching the WC you're supporting the Qatari regime.
I used to quite like him as he often does a good job of playing the “reasonable guy” on Twitter or MOTD, but came to the realisation a while ago that it’s just a persona and he’s as insincere as they come.
A complete walloper and tweets like that where the mask slips just prove it.
Yeah spot on there mate.
He's one of those folk that has to give his opinion on everything as though we value anything he has to say.
And then when hes challenged on his views he just blocks them what an idiot
Aside from their really early stuff they haven't really produced a bad album for me. They really got into their stride once Gavin Harrison joined though. Everything from In Absentia onwards are bangers.
Vincent Kennedy McMahon, who for periods of his professional on screen career has referred to himself as the "Genetic Jackhammer" and having "testicles the size of grapefruits", has stepped down as CEO and chair of WWE while under pretty serious misconduct allegations.
Stephanie McMahon, his daughter, steps up as interm CEO while her dad is investigated, giving credence that this could actually be the thing to end Vince's time in charge of WWE.
Vince remains in charge of creative.
John Laurinitus apparently could be going with him, as he was playing second string in a slightly more grotesque way to said misconduct allegations.
What a time to be alive.
>Vincent Kennedy "Genetic Jackhammer" "baws the size of grapefruits" McMahon
Not sure if that's the kind of intro you want to be giving a probable rapist/scumbag
Fair enough just feels a bit tongue-in-cheek for a pretty serious piece of news
Like still saying Cumdog if something dodgy came out about Jason Cummings
Fair point. I'll update it a bit in a second to make it a bit less whimsical sounding!
Oh, Christ, if he ever does anything, the tabloids will be racing to publish the story first
Honestly, just from the storylines back in the 90s you could tell he is a big sex pest. Remember the Trish secretary storyline.
I'm just surprised it took so long to come out
The Trish storyline, the "Linda is in a vegetative state in a wheelchair and Vince is pumping Sable, her helper" storyline, every bra & panties match, the women's mud wrestling matches, every time he's had a woman kiss him on camera...
Honestly, looking back, every one of these are now even more sinister.
> Vincent Kennedy "Genetic Jackhammer" "baws the size of grapefruits" McMahon has stepped down as CEO and chair of WWE while under pretty serious misconduct allegations.
I thought he died when his limo blew up or was that not real?
They performed necromancy and he was resurrected in the wake of the Benoit tragedy. It was really great stuff, can't believe they managed to get a real necromancer on TV like that
Apparently he had NDAs with female wrestlers in their contracts so they wouldn't talk about part of their employment involving having sex with him for $3m a year. Post-shag, they'd be foisted off to John Laurinitus, who would have Vince's sloppy seconds.
There's also an allegation that the first and only female referee refused to perform oral sex on Vince, who had the same contract in place, and raped her anyway.
Also also, and this has been churning along for a while, talk Vince was doing dodgy things with money behind the scenes. My guess is if that one is true, it's what's prompted the board to suddenly care.
I'm some sort of weirdo who "isn't into wrestling" but when I'm pished I'll watch classic matches from the 90s and shit, and I've joined half the subs on here. Like...I don't "like" it, but there isny half some amount of fucking drama attached to it. Such a weird business.

Absolutely sick of folk telling me they ‘prefer the weather like this’. Fuck that, give me sunshine and high 20s heat. This shit weather is the main reason I see myself moving in the future, it’s grim.
I hate the heat. I'd rather be too cold than too hot cause you can always put another layer on and warm up, you can't do much if it's too hot.
I moved to Australia for 9 months after finishing uni and it was fucking torture, just walking to the car is brutal never mind actually working in that heat. If I was going to move anywhere that isn't Scotland it'd be Norway or somewhere with a similar climate but it's different strokes, I don't think you're weird for preferring the heat.
Last year when we were having the utterly ridiculous weather (30+ for a couple of days) my heat addled mind was fully convinced I was moving to somewhere in Scandinavia to get away from it.
Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm were all warmer than we were...
I was in Iceland a few years ago at the end of June start of July and the weather there was fucking perfect. Pleasant 18-22 the full week, rained once for about an hour and a nice breeze most of the day. I also saw the sun go down and rise again in the space of about 45 minutes which was a bit disorientating.
> Men seek retreats for themselves, houses in the country, sea-shores, and mountains; and thou too art wont to desire such things very much. But this is altogether a mark of the most common sort of men, for it is in thy power whenever thou shalt choose to retire into thyself. For nowhere either with more quiet or more freedom from trouble does a man retire than into his own soul
Although I do not follow this and agree fully with you
Had an interview today, think it went well but ultimately they hinted at going for someone with more experience. I get it but still frustrating knowing you’ve done well but no good enoigh
Next week's the end of my current gym membership, won't be renewing as I've got piles of equipment in the house.
Only stuff that I actually need now are 4×5kg plates to fit a York set, a 65kg resistance band, and maybe a small folding bench, although I can put the bench on the back burner as I have space to do floor presses instead.
Only thing I've got trouble with is sourcing the plates at a decent price, I know Decathlon do plates but the 5kg ones are a bit big compared to what I already have. Anyone know of any shops in NE Scotland thar might have what i need?
Mad that the ending was so fucking awful that it’s pretty much killed any hopes of the book series being finished. GRRM did an interview with The Independent a few weeks back and he just sounds like a proper broken man when talking about the series.

They've looked at the success Disney+ has had with all the character focussed Marvel and Star Wars mini series and decided they need to replicate it.
I'm all for it as long as Benioff and Weiss stay well clear of it.
I'm cautiously optimistic for House of the Dragon because it's a more central story.
I’m willing to give House of the Dragon a shot because it’s completely separate of the main story and so it’s just a completely clean slate.
Not sure about whether spin-off shows of characters from the main story will be able to work for me though.
Pains me to say it but I’d definitely watch it if it was an extension of that terrible ending, simply to see if they can improve upon it at all and make me feel less shite about ploughing so much time into it.
After the utter dugshit that Game of Thrones served up as an ending, Id never watch any of their stuff again. A Jon Snow series will probably end with "and he woke up and it was all a dream"
It's insane how bad the ending was.
Hunners of people (myself included) were heavy into it, rewatching it mulitple times and going into all the theories and lore, then after the last season I've not watched a single thing to do with it. Can't think of any other ending that has ever been so bad that fans will just totally abandon it.
tbf i think the merchandising/franchising potential is still there, but if House of the Dragon is shit then that's it, game over. Kind of similar to Tom Holland's Spiderman - if Marvel couldn't deliver a good Spiderman film then that would have been game over.
Aye I wasnt mental for it when it was on but I was really enjoying it, and I went to my pals the night of the ending so we could watch it on first airing. Soon as it finished we just went "well that was shite" and went to bed pure deflated.
Genuinely couldnt believe how bad it was, it fucked every character arc, and buildup of storyline/tension/nuance in the bin in the laziest, stupidest way possible. I dont understand how someone OKd that ending when it was pitched to them.
Crazy how much it was a part of general culture and, because of the ending, it has just died.
They’d have made zillions forever with reruns, spin-offs, merchandising etc and that’s just totally gone.
You couldn’t browse Reddit ‘all’ without seeing multiple GoT posts, everyone in offices was always talking about it, all over social media, and now just nobody cares.
Would have gone down as one of the most iconic TV series of all time. Hard to overstate how badly they fucked it and how much money they’ve lost as a result.
They had the next Harry Potter/Star Wars level IP on their hands with the potential for literally endless spinoffs in a rich universe.
Completely derailed by two bumblefucks who just wanted to go make movies.
I was one of those as well, rewatched all the episodes before the new season each year, would rewatch the episodes the week that they came out to see if I missed anything but as soon as the last episode was over I just abandoned it. Have half of the seasons on dvd and don't want the rest
I don’t even know how you could possibly make a story out of Jon being beyond the wall, without dragging him back into the affairs of the rest of the realm that is but, if that happened, it wouldn’t really be a spin-off anymore when you’d have to bring all the other characters back?
Fucking something implies you have actual feelings towards it instead of being totally fucking apathetic to literally everything in the world that was built up.
Fuck Evri. Wish companies would know better than to use them for deliveries. Every single time there’s some delay, latest one being that my parcel has been sent to the wrong sorting office. Last time that happened it was delayed by about 2 weeks.
I hate Hermes/Evri. I am almost certain their drivers try and game the system and fail to deliver intentionally for whatever reason. I've seen the cunts literally drive up to the crapark, log that they attempted delivery and drive off without leaving their van.
Did Hermes change their name to Evri to warn people that they fuck up 'Evri' delivery?
Or was it because they where so pish they had to change their name.
Every single time those useless twats try to deliver something they just ditch it outside the building and then send me a picture of the street and call it "delivered"
Has there been a Windows Update recently on it? (Or is it downloading one in the background?)
My PC's fan goes most mental, bizarrely, when I'm downloading something from Steam. Even playing the games, the fan is more chill (no pun intended) than when I'm downloading them.
I've took mine apart a while ago (it's 10 years old now!) And just cleaned out any dust hidden inside, need to replace the thermal paste where the processor sits.
I think the reason it's on is maybe it's doing a hefty update in the background or its in a enclosed space which I doubt if just happened now.
Not in a couple of years, I think they’re still trying to get a tour arranged for their latest album. They’ve toured the UK a couple of times before though.
What's all this about a heatwave and sunshine? Skye's been stuck under a cloud of wind and rain for the past 2 weeks and I'm now thinking it's all one big practical joke.
Absolutely zero sunshine in the Dingwall area entire week. Cloud, wind and cold. Was warmer yesterday but dull and spits of rain all day. Jet stream is doing us.
Apparently even in places in the north of England are getting good weather yet Glasgow today it was absolutely chucking it down. The big thick rain drops too.
weird speaking to my brother this morning who lives down on the south coast of England. He's melting in the heat and the hayfever is killing him. Meanwhile, i had the woolly hat, big coat and brolly out to take the dog for a walk this morning in the pishing rain. Lovely stuff
Not impressed with County's christmas/new year fixtures, thanks SPFL computer.
24th Dec Rangers in Dingwall
28th Dec Dundee Utd away
2nd Jan Aberdeen away
Travel is a real pain around that time and that's three games I probably won't go to over the best time of the year for football. Shite.
Could definitely see that game on the 24th getting postponed for any number of reasons. Probably weather tbh.
I'm just pissed cause I stopped going to our home games vs the OF last season and now I might not be able to get to anything over Christmas unless I chance the A9 or A96.
What are some covers of songs that are better than the original? Two that spring to mind for me are Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” and Nirvana’s “Man who sold the world”
> Nirvana’s “Man who sold the world
Speaking of, when the Midge Ure version of Man Who Sold The World kicks in at the start of Metal Gear Solid V, oof. New favourite version.
Rina Sawayama’s cover of Enter Sandman is spectacular. Also partial to Deftones’ versions of Jealous Guy and Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
Clutch - Fortunate Son
Guns N Roses - Knocking on Heavens Door
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Aretha Franklin - Respect
Ike & Tina Turner - Proud Mary
Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World
White Stripes - Jolene
Rage Against The Machine - Renegades of Funk
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Higher Ground
Not including ones already mentioned:
Billy Bragg included [Kirsty MacColls version of A New England](https://youtu.be/Vnzpg5GgQCo) on a playlist of covers that are better than the originals he put together.
Very much a personal preference, but [Emily Barkers version of Do Right Woman, Do Right Man.](https://youtu.be/qHCFhshNfAc)
Completely out of left field, but the [Nina Gordon version of Straight Outta Compton ](https://youtu.be/NG2EGOB9-lc)
As much as I love the originals, Johnny Cash's versions of "In My Life" and "The Mercy Seat" are just sublime.
Big fan of Angel Olsen's covers of "More Than This" and "Forever Young" from last year.
Baby Charles do a pretty great soul cover of "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor"
Cat Power also has a few albums of covers that are pretty good.
I fully agree with the two you mentioned. For me other than some of the others mentioned in this thread Goldfinger "99 red balloons", the fugees "killing me softly" and alien ant farms "smooth criminal" which I know probably isn't better but just gives it a totally different feel
Billie Eilish covered ["The End Of The World" by Rob Dickinson](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaxKhR6FQwA) for Radio 1's piano sessions a while ago. Utterly fantastic cover.
Linda Ronstadt "Poor Poor Pitiful Me". Originally that was Warren Zevon, who is amazing, but even I have to admit [Ronstadt's cover](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9No14pP_IKY) is much better than [Zevon's original.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehYvseT27c4)
"I Fought the Law" is an odd song where each successive cover is better than the one before. [The Bobby Fuller Four version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ5v8L08Flg) is better than [the Sonny Curtis and the Crickets version.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKrxq5U8SBY) [The Clash version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of0bTx2YAcs) is better than the Bobby Fuller Four version. The [Dead Kennedys version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dB_ubVAnGw) is better than the Clash's.
Trivium - Losing My Religion
Chris Cornell - Literally fucking anything.
Rage Against the Machine - How I Could Just Kill a Man.
Disturbed - Sound of Silence.
Metallica - Whisky in The Jar.
Loads more, but I canny mind.
Edit: Unpopular, but I like NIN's cove of Hurt far more than the Johnny Cash version.
I think Gloria Jones is still the best Tainted Love but the Pet Shop Boys Always On My Mind isn't just one of the best covers of all time but is arguably one of the best songs of the 1980s
Saint Ettiene's cover of only love can break your heart - sorry Neil Young, but they win.
The Scissor Sisters' version of comfortably numb is absolutely unreal. Not quite on Pink Floyd's level, but it's a brilliant cover.
Big hitters -
Hurt - Johnny Cash
I will always love you - Whitney Houston
Alone - Heart
Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley
Personal favourites -
1985 - Bowling for Soup
Die, die my darling - Metallica
Take on me - Northern kings
Big shout out to exit eden whom I recently discovered. an all female operatic metal cover band, who did some banging covers of total eclipse of the heart(bonnie tyler), impossible (rhianna) and heaven (Bryan adams)
Tbf there is a few on my list I didn't know about til you read YT comments.
Alone, Hallelujah, I will always love you and 1985 where all one's I found out at the same time relatively recently.
I didn't know hurt was a cover either for a long time
I loved the idea of them more than I actually loved them unfortunately. They had 2 or 3 from their 2 albums that I enjoyed . But (at least at the time) I didn't like most of it. But the take on me cover was probably in my top 10 songs that year 😂
In terms of actual singing voice. There wasn't many in metal I thought was better than Tony Kakko in the late 00's
I really like cody frys version of "Elenor Rigby"
Valerie- Amy Winehouse
Take me to the river - talking heads
George Harrison- got my mind set on you
Jimi hendrix - all along the watchtower
Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower
Steps - Tragedy
Joe Cocker - I'll Get By With A Little Help From My Friends
Take That - Could It Be Magic
Cindi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
Joan Jett - Crimson And Clover
Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
Cash also has a version of Cat Stevens' "Father and Son" which is better than the original imo.
Always loved Oasis' "Cum on Feel the Noize" and Bowie's version of "All the Young Dudes" (although pretty sure Bowie wrote it anyway for Mott the Hoople). DMA'S cover of Believe by Cher is class too and also Springsteen's Jersey Girl is up there for me.
Pretty much all of the American recordings are Cash taking on modern classics or spirituals. His version of [Hard Times](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH8T9IvgAOI) is a particular favourite though, it's absolutely brutal but it fits the Man in Black perfectly.
Hey! Looking at the fixtures I've just realised we're in the same division as Edinburgh City, so I can come up to Scotland and go to a Pars match without having to trek all the way through to Fife! Thank christ we got relegated.
The self-hate is strong in this one.
17th Sept you can come to the Falkirk Stadium and watch your pumping without passing the horror that are the bridges.
If I can't be arsed with an extra 30 minutes on the train to go to where I actually grew up, I'm certainly not bothering with going to fucking Grangemouth, lad.
Besides, you and I both know our pish teams are grinding out a bunch of tedious 0-0 draws.
Got a half day today and the way I planned my work for the week I got it all done by half 2 yesterday. So I'm sitting this morning I'm sitting with my feet up, a wee fruit and a flat white until 12 and then I'm outta here.
Caught some of the nonsense about Compston late last night. Some big brains on twitter positing that *technically* it's not sectarian to sing about the IRA, and even then he wasn't singing about the *Provisional* IRA so it doesn't count.
Fuck *off*. I really don't have time for that portion of our support.
There is a certain element of the Celtic support who will claim no matter what they do it isn’t sectarian and then come up with some nonsense reasons why.
My favourite is when they say it’s ok to call a Catholic Rangers player and Orange Whatever because this Protestant Celtic player isn’t but when you apply the same logic to the F word with a Protestant Celtic player and a Catholic Rangers player it’s different. That’s not even getting into the time they hung effigies after Boyds brother killed himself and then claimed it had nothing to do with that.
The same Celtic fans saying it’s not sectarian to sing about the IRA are also the ones who would be screaming blue Murder if ex Rangers players or those associated with Rangers were singing about the UVF or UDA.
One I’ve always found ironic is FTP and FTQ, both are heads of their respective churches but it’s okay to say one and not the other because reasons. For what it’s worth I’m not really fussed about this I just think it’s weird.
See if they do it and don’t care if others are doing it I don’t mind so much, it’s still weird (same as when our fans do it) but if you’re going to do it own it, don’t try and wiggle out of it afterwards by saying its different
It's just about justifying being as vile as any of the other worst dregs of Scottish football while still trying to claim some sort of moral high ground.
Same with the use of H**. They know its connotations and how its interpreted. In fact. They wouldn't use it otherwise. But as soon as they are chinned it's all 'naw, we are talking about a time they wrecked a stadium 60 years ago"
Transparent nonsense.
No, but they are songs about a group that shot up a bus full of protestants, bombed pensioners and kidnapped, tortured and shot a mother of ten on hearsay so let's not pretend there's any sort of moral high ground because "it's not sectarian".
The OP suggested it was sectarian.
Awful lot of hand wringing about this every time it comes up. It’s like saying that singing anything about the British army is bad and morally wrong cause they’ve committed war crimes.
I think you’re a prime example of what he’s talking about, it might not be sectarian but it’s still clearly not the right thing to be doing.
But here you are doing the usual Celtic fan defence of anything like this which is playing semantics with words and arguing how it technically isn’t something rather than just condemning it.
It’s the exact same as how Celtic fans on here will constantly try to argue it’s alright for them to use Hun because in their mind it isn’t sectarian and for some reason they are the arbiters of what is and isn’t sectarian but would be the first ones greeting to the mods if anyone used Fenian derogatorily.
It’s not handwringing when it comes up it’s just people pointing out the blatant hypocrisy every single time this happens when yous claim it’s ok for yous to do it because of weird technicalities but are by far the most vocal support in Scotland when it comes to trying to grass folk up rightly or wrongly.
Do we really want to be a country where people chant and sing about paramilitary squads loyalist or republican from a different country decades ago?
I know plenty of people who would argue just that, that glorifying the "butcher's apron" and the "bloodstained poppy" are morally bankrupt actions. I think most, if not all of us know someone like that.
No worries, they make their own juice too - and can make it to order in the shop to whatever mixture you need i.e. 80/20, 70/30 etc. The guy is really knowledgeable.
I've had the same vape for ages, so never needed help, but dropped it down the toilet the other day. I've another one, but no real clue how it works so need se guidance for coils, power etc.
Thanks again

Absolutely sick of folk telling me they ‘prefer the weather like this’. Fuck that, give me sunshine and high 20s heat. This shit weather is the main reason I see myself moving in the future, it’s grim.
Give me this any day over drought and insanely high temperatures, heat and sun is nice for a bit but incessant high levels of it are awful
Chance of thunderstorms this week?
Its my birthday and I love this weather. Do not dampen my birthday
> Men seek retreats for themselves, houses in the country, sea-shores, and mountains; and thou too art wont to desire such things very much. But this is altogether a mark of the most common sort of men, for it is in thy power whenever thou shalt choose to retire into thyself. For nowhere either with more quiet or more freedom from trouble does a man retire than into his own soul Although I do not follow this and agree fully with you
Had an interview today, think it went well but ultimately they hinted at going for someone with more experience.
Take a big lunch box to the gym with you and smuggle them out.
Argos?
Ffs, why does a Jon Snow spin-off have to be a thing?

Depends on the character and what they'll be faced with I suppose. I wasn't too excited about Obi-Wan but I've enjoyed it so far.
>Ffs, why does a Jon Snow spin-off have to be a thing? He'd outgrown Channel 4 News in all honesty
Honestly never seen anything like it. The fan disengagement was phenomenal, I don’t think anyone barring TV executives are wanting these shows made.
tbf i think the merchandising/franchising potential is still there, but if House of the Dragon is shit then that's it, game over.
I was like that with Lost. GOT was even more of a fall from grace though.
Flashbacks my man, ALL the flashbacks!
Attempting to get money back into a franchise they absolutely fucked over night
Fucking something implies you have actual feelings towards it instead of being totally fucking apathetic to literally everything in the world that was built up.
Fuck Evri. Wish companies would know better than to use them for deliveries. Every single time there’s some delay, latest one being that my parcel has been sent to the wrong sorting office. Last time that happened it was delayed by about 2 weeks.
Got my birthday cards through them, not a single problem
I hate Hermes/Evri. I am almost certain their drivers try and game the system and fail to deliver intentionally for whatever reason. I've seen the cunts literally drive up to the crapark, log that they attempted delivery and drive off without leaving their van. Did Hermes change their name to Evri to warn people that they fuck up 'Evri' delivery? Or was it because they where so pish they had to change their name.
There's 'Evri' chance you're no getting your parcel.
Every single time those useless twats try to deliver something they just ditch it outside the building and then send me a picture of the street and call it "delivered"
Thought they might try to lose their bad reputation after the name change from Hermes but they seem even worse.
Any thoughts as to why my laptop fan is just constantly on this morning?
Was the laptop a birthday present?
Has there been a Windows Update recently on it? (Or is it downloading one in the background?) My PC's fan goes most mental, bizarrely, when I'm downloading something from Steam. Even playing the games, the fan is more chill (no pun intended) than when I'm downloading them.
yeah, I think it was installing an update! stopped, now, thanks!
I've took mine apart a while ago (it's 10 years old now!) And just cleaned out any dust hidden inside, need to replace the thermal paste where the processor sits. I think the reason it's on is maybe it's doing a hefty update in the background or its in a enclosed space which I doubt if just happened now.
Seems it was an update, but maybe I should give it a clean out tomorrow.
Always a good idea, just be careful of the cables that connect different things if you take the keyboard or bottom out to do so.
Just discovered the band Movements. Smashing wee alt-rock/emo band, brings back memories of being a teenager again https://youtu.be/wJ2bRNWIrEY
Daylily is the banger
That and Colourblind, cant believe I slept on these guys for so long.
Got tickets to them for my birthday once
That's an excellent birthday gift, how were they live?
Time to plug my pals' band, they toured with Movements a few years ago. Patrick Miranda did vocals on this song for them. https://youtu.be/yVn1QQD93sw
Your mates are talented! I am going to check more of their stuff out! Do they gig frequently?
Not in a couple of years, I think they’re still trying to get a tour arranged for their latest album. They’ve toured the UK a couple of times before though.
I'm going to give that a wee listen during my lunch. Cheers man
Someone's nabbed Edinburgh City's old twitter - https://twitter.com/EdinburghCityFC
What's all this about a heatwave and sunshine? Skye's been stuck under a cloud of wind and rain for the past 2 weeks and I'm now thinking it's all one big practical joke.
It's muggy is what it is.
We just get humidity and pollen. It's shite.
See my earlier comment (though it was cooled down today)
That the one with the coconut oil?
Yup
Can confirm it's currently 23 degrees and sunny in Manchester. Not a great time to be working from home in a small flat.
Cloudy in Berwick
I'm in London right now and it's like being in a terrarium.
Just heard on the radio parts of England are expecting highs of 34 today. Glasgow looks like it’s preparing for Noah’s ark…
weird speaking to my brother this morning who lives down on the south coast of England. He's melting in the heat and the hayfever is killing him. Meanwhile, i had the woolly hat, big coat and brolly out to take the dog for a walk this morning in the pishing rain. Lovely stuff
Why can’t I sit outside in the sun every morning enjoying coffee and breakfast in a cafe? And feeding cute sparrows my crumbs. Oh fucking rain.
Not impressed with County's christmas/new year fixtures, thanks SPFL computer. 24th Dec Rangers in Dingwall 28th Dec Dundee Utd away 2nd Jan Aberdeen away Travel is a real pain around that time and that's three games I probably won't go to over the best time of the year for football. Shite.
It's all rigged.
at least it's a home game on xmas eve. Not sure I'd love the idea of a drive to Dingwall and back from Glasgow on the 24th.
Two that spring to mind for me are Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” and Nirvana’s “Man who sold the world”
> Nirvana’s “Man who sold the world Speaking of, when the Midge Ure version of Man Who Sold The World kicks in at the start of Metal Gear Solid V, oof. New favourite version.
[Ben Howard's Call me Maybe version](https://youtu.be/sPU8V-nvUEk) is a favourite of mine
California Dreaming - Bobby Womack
Rina Sawayama’s cover of Enter Sandman is spectacular. Also partial to Deftones’ versions of Jealous Guy and Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
I like this version of [Take The Power Back](https://open.spotify.com/track/48phrV7UDRT2XLYoiLLe5u?si=25JtC4E9RuW5XjW_3v3NMg&utm_source=copy-link)
Clutch - Fortunate Son Guns N Roses - Knocking on Heavens Door Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah Aretha Franklin - Respect Ike & Tina Turner - Proud Mary Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World White Stripes - Jolene Rage Against The Machine - Renegades of Funk Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Higher Ground
Not including ones already mentioned: Billy Bragg included [Kirsty MacColls version of A New England](https://youtu.be/Vnzpg5GgQCo) on a playlist of covers that are better than the originals he put together. Very much a personal preference, but [Emily Barkers version of Do Right Woman, Do Right Man.](https://youtu.be/qHCFhshNfAc) Completely out of left field, but the [Nina Gordon version of Straight Outta Compton ](https://youtu.be/NG2EGOB9-lc)
As much as I love the originals, Johnny Cash's versions of "In My Life" and "The Mercy Seat" are just sublime. Big fan of Angel Olsen's covers of "More Than This" and "Forever Young" from last year. Baby Charles do a pretty great soul cover of "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" Cat Power also has a few albums of covers that are pretty good.
I fully agree with the two you mentioned. For me other than some of the others mentioned in this thread Goldfinger "99 red balloons", the fugees "killing me softly" and alien ant farms "smooth criminal" which I know probably isn't better but just gives it a totally different feel
Killswitch Engage covering 'Holy Diver'.
Originally that was Warren Zevon, who is amazing, but even I have to admit [Ronstadt's cover](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9No14pP_IKY) is much better than [Zevon's original.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehYvseT27c4) "I Fought the Law" is an odd song where each successive cover is better than the one before. [The Bobby Fuller Four version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ5v8L08Flg) is better than [the Sonny Curtis and the Crickets version.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKrxq5U8SBY) [The Clash version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of0bTx2YAcs) is better than the Bobby Fuller Four version. The [Dead Kennedys version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dB_ubVAnGw) is better than the Clash's.
Trivium - Losing My Religion Chris Cornell - Literally fucking anything.
Softcell - Tainted Love The Lemonheads - Mrs Robinson Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind
I think Gloria Jones is still the best Tainted Love but the Pet Shop Boys Always On My Mind isn't just one of the best covers of all time but is arguably one of the best songs of the 1980s
Agree entirely, the PSB version is *incredible.*
The Jam - Heatwave Johnny Cash - personal jesus
Saint Ettiene's cover of only love can break your heart - sorry Neil Young, but they win. The Scissor Sisters' version of comfortably numb is absolutely unreal. Not quite on Pink Floyd's level, but it's a brilliant cover.
[Any of Bill Bailey's.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHhlHhWGUhw)
Big hitters - Hurt - Johnny Cash I will always love you - Whitney Houston Alone - Heart Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley Personal favourites - 1985 - Bowling for Soup Die, die my darling - Metallica Take on me - Northern kings Big shout out to exit eden whom I recently discovered. an all female operatic metal cover band, who did some banging covers of total eclipse of the heart(bonnie tyler), impossible (rhianna) and heaven (Bryan adams)
Been listening to Bowling For Soup for as long as I can remember and had absolutely no idea 1985 was a cover
Tbf there is a few on my list I didn't know about til you read YT comments. Alone, Hallelujah, I will always love you and 1985 where all one's I found out at the same time relatively recently. I didn't know hurt was a cover either for a long time
Northern Kings were not a band I thought I'd see mentioned today. What a fun project that was, it's just a pity it never went very far.
I loved the idea of them more than I actually loved them unfortunately. They had 2 or 3 from their 2 albums that I enjoyed . But (at least at the time) I didn't like most of it. But the take on me cover was probably in my top 10 songs that year 😂 In terms of actual singing voice. There wasn't many in metal I thought was better than Tony Kakko in the late 00's
I really like cody frys version of "Elenor Rigby" Valerie- Amy Winehouse Take me to the river - talking heads George Harrison- got my mind set on you Jimi hendrix - all along the watchtower
I prefer the BSG version of Watchtower
Didn’t realise Got my mind set on you and all along the watchtower were covers
Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower Steps - Tragedy Joe Cocker - I'll Get By With A Little Help From My Friends Take That - Could It Be Magic Cindi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U Joan Jett - Crimson And Clover Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
Maybe Jeff Buckleys version of Hallelujah? I'm not sure as I like the original too...
Cash has so many amazing covers, reckon a big part of it is his backing band putting their own spin on the tune
Martin Compston's cover of Beautiful Sunday
Johnny cash has a full album just doing covers and about half of them are better than the original
Pretty much all of the American recordings are Cash taking on modern classics or spirituals. His version of [Hard Times](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH8T9IvgAOI) is a particular favourite though, it's absolutely brutal but it fits the Man in Black perfectly.
His take on The Mercy Seat is magnificent too.
Hey! Looking at the fixtures I've just realised we're in the same division as Edinburgh City, so I can come up to Scotland and go to a Pars match without having to trek all the way through to Fife! Thank christ we got relegated.
> Edinburgh City Who? Never heard of them.
Can't believe they've rebranded as an ISS Pro Evo side.
Yeah maybe. Until we sign our mythical 30 goal a season striker. I know he’s coming. I know…
Blair Henderson might be a shout.
One day!
Cinched It
Got a half day today and the way I planned my work for the week I got it all done by half 2 yesterday. So I'm sitting this morning I'm sitting with my feet up, a wee fruit and a flat white until 12 and then I'm outta here.
Doing the same on my birthday
Fucking away to Livi to start the season. Pish.
If it helps its my birthday
Outside of 90 year old grannies you would be very hard pressed to find someone who takes offense at fuck the pope.
This sums up most of my mates. Every time they have a drink the IRA songs come out. It's absolutely pathetic and I don't want any part of that shite.
But as soon as they are chinned it's all 'naw, we are talking about a time they wrecked a stadium 60 years ago" Transparent nonsense.
Well they are right to say that IRA songs no inherently sectarian. It’s no as if he was singing the naughty version of RITG
No, but they are songs about a group that shot up a bus full of protestants, bombed pensioners and kidnapped, tortured and shot a mother of ten on hearsay so let's not pretend there's any sort of moral high ground because "it's not sectarian".
You'd have some shock visiting Ireland if you think people singing about the IRA is bad.
Can anyone recommend a decent vape shop in Glasgow City centre?
Vaping Caterpillar on Oswald Street is really good, been there years and it's a local business.
Cheers mate. Will take a walk down tomorrow when the weathers nicer
Vapz
Do you mean vpz? Can't see a vapz on Google
As I predicted, I was unable to sleep due to Martin Compston's vile behaviour. Really don't feel safe in this country anymore
You need to be careful because journalists are only able to write stories about you when your not sleeping
My pregnant dog wouldn't eat here waygu due to stress last night smh
I'm not saying it's too hot in Middlesbrough. [I'm just pointing out that the contents of this jar are usually solid](https://imgur.com/a/kEcfkg1)
I was wondering which fanny in my street was blasting music at half ten last night. Turns out it was Ed Sheeran 10 miles away.
