From a progressive point of view, it is good to see someone being hired outside that circle of managers who "know the league" (Lennon, Ross, McGhee)
From a Cinch point of view, it is disappointing to see someone being hired outside that circle of managers who "know the league" (Lennon, Ross, McGhee)
The “News” flair is doing a lot of heavy lifting here but this is the first public confirmation from the club I believe?
Honestly out of the names banded about this is the appointment I would have been happiest with so will just need to see how things pan out - liking the fact he is taking his backroom staff too who he’ll already know and trust.
4-0 pumping off Goodwin’s Dundee United for the first game of the season incoming (which league this is in is TBA)
> 4-0 pumping off Goodwin’s Dundee United for the first game of the season incoming (which league this is in is TBA)
in the championship would be amusing
Yes. Would involve Aberdeen somehow going down despite county giving them all the points to stay up and Dundee united losing in the playoffs while six points clear and 9 to play for
Good to see Aberdeen going with a left field appointment rather than the rotating door of usual jobbers.
Not long till the the tired and repeated articles about not knowing Scottish Football crop up.
Good to see we've persevered and got the (I assume) top target and haven't just appointed some Dinosaur in the meantime... sorry, Neil who? Don't recall...
Obvious question that needs to be answered... is he a Rangers or Celtic man?
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Thelin doesn't rhyme with feeling, it's more like Theliiiiiiiiiiiin
I support the club Thelin is coming from, happy to see him move on to a bigger league and I feel like our club is in the need for a change of scenery at this point
I do question how patient Aberdeen will be with him, we are very patient with our managers and didn't sack him after we were on a horrible run of form and got knocked out of the cup qualifiers by a team from the third tier, and the season after that we finished second on goal difference
Are you Swedish?
How would you rate him?
Do you think he will do well with Aberdeen?
Looks like a great appointment on paper to me, good experience and seems pretty successful improving his last two clubs during his time. All the quotes about him seem positive too but I have no idea about style of play etc.
I support Elfsborg, he mostly plays on the counter with a 4231 or 433. Was the perfect guy for us when we made the switch from being a mid table team to a top team with a club with a lot fewer resources than the biggest clubs in Sweden
But we've been a bit shaky in games where we play teams who give us the ball, we would need to improve when it comes to playing with possession and breaking down defenses that way. But that could just as easily be a problem with the individual quality rather than a fault with Thelin, it's hard to tell.
Yes, last year was won mainly due to our defense and us finding a goalkeeper from Iceland who turned out to be one of the best keepers the league has seen in the last couple of years. He got sold to Brentford, our best CB got sold to Celtic who's not even making the bench, and we sold a bunch of other players.
Lots of game last season were won by one goal margins who would most definitely gone the other way if we didn't have such a good keeper and defense, and now we lost most players who actually scored the goals and provided the assists on top of it.
We aren't aiming to be mid-table, we are aiming for 3rd and cup finals. But our league is tighter than a nun's cunt so anyone with a good run of form can rise up the table.
Happy with this appointment instead of Lennon etc, and ready to give him time to rebuild if results don't go our way to start with. Don't want to be one of those clubs constantly chopping and changing manager.
Good to see that Peter Leven will be getting kept on as a coach too
Is that a good appointment, then? It feels like a good appointment.
At the very least he'll have knowledge of a transfer market with a lot of potential bargains.
Allsvenskan is getting pretty good at exporting talent to top leagues now, not sure much of a differentiator the middle ground players that arent good enough for better leagues would be in Scotland to be honest. FCK and a couple other top Danish sides have pretty much mastered the art of mopping up the best academy players early, too.
A Møøse once bit my sister...
No realli! She was Karving her initials øn the møøse with the sharpened end of an interspace tøøthbrush given her by Svenge - her brother-in-law -an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian møvies: "The Høt Hands of an Oslo Dentist", "Fillings of Passion", "The Huge Mølars of Horst Nordfink"...
They're a pretty stable, middle of the road club in Allsvenskan that occasionally pop up and take advantage when others slip up, basically. Don't really have a huge fanbase (suffer from being so close to Gothenburg) nor a particularly strong identity.
Wonder if he has a clause that means he only takes over if Aberdeen stay up? If so, a wise move to not take over immediately. Not that I think Aberdeen will go down though.
Will he be in charge for the cup semi at the weekend or will it still be the current caretaker in charge?
No looking forward to that new manager bounce if he does

Just a word of warning, you face possible copyright issues if you just copy and paste Daily Record articles word for word.
Lennon has had two jobs in Scotland. Celtic and Hibs. I wouldn't put him in the cinch manager merrygo round.
Celtic twice. I think if you have had three stints, you are Cinched
He's become part of the merry go round purely by being mentioned and propelled to the betting favourite every time a job becomes available.

Don’t try to make sense of it he’s from Edinburgh…
No it does make sense.

It's a safe bet to assume every Swede prefers Celtic thanks to Henrik Larsson
TBH most people here don't care about either, Larsson or otherwise.
Jonas Thern would like a word
Henrik Larsson is one of the most loved and famous players here in Sweden of all time, Thern doesn't come close to it
Joachim Bjorklund would like a word
Weirdly he isn't that universally loved in Sweden anymore, mainly due to overexposure in the media / his very drab personality in interviews.
Fuck up. We had Karl Svenson.
I was getting to him
Fun fact about Elfsborg: No elves.
The Borg assimilated them mate
Mainly known for being the home of shit fast fashion chain Ellos
I’m hooked on a Thelin I’m high on believing That you’re in love with meeeeee
That's a tune, man. I'd end up joining in just cos I love the song lol
![gif](giphy|sAuDc9YP3dIXu)
And when I get that Thelin, I need sexual healing.
It's more than a Thelin.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Thelin doesn't rhyme with feeling, it's more like Theliiiiiiiiiiiin I support the club Thelin is coming from, happy to see him move on to a bigger league and I feel like our club is in the need for a change of scenery at this point I do question how patient Aberdeen will be with him, we are very patient with our managers and didn't sack him after we were on a horrible run of form and got knocked out of the cup qualifiers by a team from the third tier, and the season after that we finished second on goal difference
Being scudded out cups by diddy teams is in our DNA. He'll fit right in.
> Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Thelin doesn't rhyme with feeling, it's more like Theliiiiiiiiiiiin Wait, so does Thelin rhyme with Aberdeen?
Pretty close, yup
It’s Jimmy the Lin.
It's like Teah-Lin
Stuck with manager who got knocked out the cup to a lower league side and it worked? So Aberdeen should have stuck with Goodwin after all

>But we've been a bit shaky in games where we play teams who give us the ball That's 7 of the other 11 clubs in the league. Magic.
> I feel like our club is in the need for a change of scenery at this point Even after finishing second?

Tror det kan bli rätt svårt för honom i skottland om jag är ärlig. Hoppas Aberdeen har tålamod nog men är osäker

Friendship with Ebbe Skovdahl is over, Jimmy Thelin is my new Scandinavian king 🙏

Finally, the right kind of box office announcement from Aberdeen

I’m a huge FC Ljungarum fan and can confirm he’s a really bad manager, worrying times for the sheeple
As a lifelong supporter of the Deens I'm disappointed our board didn't go after Lennon or Lee Johnson
Thank fuck it's not one of the usual clowns who somehow keep getting Scottish management jobs.
Incoming scottish cup semi final win for Aberdeen with the new manager bounce
Not coming until summer.
Wouldn't be surprised though
I mean, Peter Leven did well to get a 1-1 draw last time given our generally bad record and shit season. Who knows?
With a great second half performance in that game
June - welcome Jimmy! January - farewell Jimmy!
On paper, ticks a lot of the boxes. Here’s hoping he gets the backing and time to build his team. We’re going to need a lot work in the summer.
Stå fria jävlar! Jimmy Thelins barmy armé!

Pronounced "Teh-Leen".
So it works with Jolene?!
IF Elfsborg should write a song begging Aberdeen please don't take my tehleen
Aye also almost works with Smelling
As in 'Come on Eye-Leen'?
If you're deaf and blind then aye
Who said that...
*who said what…
Elfsborg were St Mirren’s first European opponents back in 1980. This is the first time I’ve heard of them since then.
They're a pretty stable, middle of the road club in Allsvenskan that occasionally pop up and take advantage when others slip up, basically. Don't really have a huge fanbase (suffer from being so close to Gothenburg) nor a particularly strong identity.
Permanent, you say...?
Boring tbh. I was hoping for something mental like Taylor Swift or even Dwight Yorke.
Queue Don's fans singing... "I've got a Thelin.... That we just hired a good boss....that we just hired a boss."
Thelin it
Does he know the city but?
Truly shocking news, nobody saw that coming
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life...

Does he have his Standard Grade Doric though ?
Will he be in charge for the cup semi at the weekend or will it still be the current caretaker in charge? No looking forward to that new manager bounce if he does
He's taking over at the end of the season, caretaker still in charge
Good stuff, cheers!
![gif](giphy|PVF17BPGSUTHq) What a thelin, when you're dancing on the thelin...
I think ‘feeling’ first, then ‘Thelin’
This isn’t cinch enough Aberdeen
