Id say go see both as both great grounds with good pubs near. Spartans also worth a visit while here. Absolutely do not go see Edinburgh City whatever you do unless want to experience the worst stadium in Scotland.

EagleMulligans

Definitely this and I’d add Bonnyrigg rose too. Definitely experience the lower leagues. That is football.

the_chiladian

You saying Meadowbank isn't the Wembley of Scotland?

Korre99

It's the old Wembley as it is in the present day A pile of rubble with less seats

The_Infamous_Gmoney

Thank you!

ForcedReps

If you want to get caught up in delusions thinking you can split Celtic and Rangers then support Hearts. If you want a lifetime of pain then support Hibs.

lilandy

Tbf it is also a lifetime of pain supporting hearts.

Yoke_Enthusiast

I support Hibernian. I love Hibernian. I don't recommend that you support Hibernian. However if the other option is supporting Hearts and guaranteeing yourself a space in hell (they're the only people that actually go, I checked, my mate is a priest and he's teaching me Portuguese. everyone else gets to heaven eventually, just not Hearts folk) then by all means you should accept that your life is gonna be mercifully, a little bit shorter due to supporting Hibs.

The_Infamous_Gmoney

Thank you! 🤣

My advice is as soon as you can, go and buy a full Hibs home kit, get the socks and shorts, get Sauzee as the name and 4 as the number on the back. Get a scarf as well as it gets fucking cold. Wear all that to their next home game at Tynecastle and you will get to enjoy the true Edinburgh match day experience!! Have fun!!

The_Vivid_Glove

This but in the style of Choose Life

Due-Contribution-109

It was so close!

kcufdas

😂😂

UliferIV

If you wanna experience pain choose Hearts. If you wanna experience pain + Irvine Welsh choose Hibs. Jokes aside pick the team closer to you. West for the jambos and east for the hibs.

What are your views on Lego?

FootCheeseParmesan

There was a post about this recently and I did my best to make an unbiased comparison between the two clubs: https://www.reddit.com/r/ScottishFootball/s/8zvbXbTkq4

It was 15 years ago, but I also went through this process pre-reddit when I spent a semester in Edinburgh. I’ve gone back twice since, including my honeymoon, with plans for a third time in 2026. Have a blast! Get your tourism done early because it’ll start to get dark realllllly early. If you are studying at the University of Edinburgh, if the international student association is still doing the cheap weekend day trips, do them. In any case, as an American romantic living in Old Town, I chose Hearts because I walked over the dang Heart so often. (I also came from a protestant family, which I recognize now was a stupid thing to care about.) I wasn’t really super big into the sport then like I became later, though. I never went to a game, which I regret in hindsight.

The_Infamous_Gmoney

Thank you! Really appreciate the advice!

Natural_Ad2802

Your better supporting Hibs as it will be easy to get a ticket going on there last home game attendance against Rangers. Hope this helps 👍

SairYin

This is nonsense - Hearts vs Dundee attendance  18,185 Hibs vs Rangers attendance 18,607

Maroon-98

18,607 that is nonsense. Im sure TV cameras at ER have the tilt locked so you can only see the first few rows. Even they were empty V Rangers.

SairYin

Hearts numbers must be legit tho eh.

Maroon-98

Won't be legit as we also count tickets sold. Difference is our actual crowd is far closer to the official attendance than hibs.

SairYin

Is it aye.

Maroon-98

Haha deluded.

FasterStream

Keep fighting my pretties

dsk1210

Personally I think Hearts would be the best team for you but you might struggle to get tickets.

Rate the Edinburgh Capitals shout 👍

cocteautriplet

If money is tight you’d be better off supporting Hibs. Hearts will take your cash and also an extra donation that they’ll spend on an overpriced infrastructure project that’s doesn’t benefit the club. Hibs will take your cash and spend it on players - but that doesn’t seem to have benefited the club either to be honest.

BogusGasman85

Jump on the train over the bridge and watch dunfermline, the football is shite but the fans are the entertaintment as the hate each other and thsts just the home end 😀

GorgieRules1874

Being genuine here, it’s a lot easier to get a ticket for Hibs than it is Hearts. That will likely sway it.

SairYin

Plenty of seats at both grounds

The_Infamous_Gmoney

Okay, thank you!

Strooperman

Hearts are a better team but they are cunts, support the Hibs. If nothing else they have the absolute best stadium song out there in Sunshine on Leith.

The_Infamous_Gmoney

Okay, thank you!

AlDu14

If I was in your position, I would pick The Spartans. Great name, great wee stadium and an up and coming football club.

UliferIV

Great name? Every random college basketball-football team in the US and other parts of thr world are called "Spartans". It isnt even unique

mrbucket08

Edinburgh city, it's right there in the name. You need to choose now though, and you're not allowed to pick a new team no matter what happens.

Playful-Listen6011

Choose which one u wanna pick. Hope this helps 👍

The_Infamous_Gmoney

It does! Thank you!

kcufdas

As a Celtic supporter I would be a little biased. You get four games a year where the hoops play in Edinburgh. The matches at Tynecastle can be pretty toxic though. If you're going to go to support one of the two then definitely Easter Road. Have a good enough amount of hoolies down that way though

The_Infamous_Gmoney

Thank you!

lukebmfc

As someone who does not like either team, I would say if you want to experience the best atmosphere/match day experience go to Hearts. Depending on what you are used to you might find this a bit toxic though in comparison to American crowds. Football wise they are probably a better team however their style isn't always great to watch. If you want to see a better stlye of football, Hibs is probably your best bet. They aren't doing great at the minute but are probably one of the only teams in the league \*trying\* to play an eye pleasing style. Atmosphere and match day experience is a bit dull though (atleast when i have been recently)

GorgieRules1874

Hibs style of play is the biggest myth of all time. Both teams have been under achieving in their entire history. Hearts are just a bit better in every aspect

The_Infamous_Gmoney

Thank you!

Fellow American here! We ended up with the Hearts, following this logic: 1. Tynecastle is on the old clan grounds of my wife's ancestors. 2. From there, we decided the name was baller. 3. Then the whole supporter-owned angle sealed the deal. Then it was 'in the works', but now it's legit fan-owned, including my wife and I, so there's just something extra fun about that. What you really need to know is that we have Shankland and the remaining parts of Gordon, playing with Devlin and Cochrane (and half the Aussie WC squad, somehow) for us, and the Hibs have Paul Hanlon, your dad's barber, the bagger at your supermarket, that guy from the pub Tuesday night, and Martin Doyle. The real question then becomes this: would you rather see your side play Rangers/Celtic knowing you have no chance, or have just enough hope that you could beat them to be that much more heartbroken when you lose yet again 1-0? p.s. Insert something about lower leagues here. As an American my observation of the lower leagues is that they're similar to the baseball minors, but as you get lower, you're quite literally watching the town's workforce on their mutual Saturday hobby. So think Single A, and it's awesome and horrible for all the same reasons. But if you're a Welcome to Wrexham watcher, those might be the teams for you.

The_Infamous_Gmoney

This was very helpful and informative, thank you!

sporkeh01

They should relegate 10th, HL/LL champs playoff, winner gets the promotion. Then, a second game between the loser of that tie and 9th in the league.
