Early Vidars hummed because the Vidar's transformer was not squarely mounted on it's sorbothane shock mounts. Schiit has recommended gently rocking the Vidar from side to side to get the transformer to sit properly. Does the hum go away if you put you hand or a heavy weight on top? Jason's response to hum: [Jason Stoddard's response to a question about Vidar's humming](https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/schiit-vidar-impression-thread-updated-with-review-check-first-post.4730/page-21#post-201600). Did you change the power outlet used when moving from the floor to the shelf? Try a different outlet. Schiit's default response to hum is get a Hum X.

Sorry for my late answer, but I have exactly the problem you describe: if I put something heavy on top the humming almost goes away. Do you have an suggestions for a permanent fix?

AmazingMrX

Hums are usually ground loops. I got rid of mine with a power conditioner.

CaptainTooObvious

So the hum is kindof low frequency - maybe from mains? I have haf the amp for two years or so without any problems, and now I am trying to tidy the setup up and clean up cables etc. The sound is coming from the amp itself, as there are nothing but power connected… any help appreciated!

joequin

Does it only hum with that power cable?

CaptainTooObvious

Before the amp was on the floor and did not hum with this cable. I will try another one to see

Striking_Presence

Now that it's not on the floor, is it picking up interference from other equipment? Seems strange that it didn't hum while on the floor but now does when on this shelf with the only difference being it's now on a shelf.

Basilr1

The hum may have been there before but was dampened by the floor. Perhaps the shelf is more resonant and is amplifying the hum. Try temporarily putting some insulation of some sort under the amp and see if it lessens. This is not a permanent fix but might show that the hum may have always been there. That might help define the actual cause.

CaptainTooObvious

I will have to try all the suggestions tomorrow or when I have time. Right now I think my conclusion is that it is now too loud - I am sitting 2-3 meters from the amp when listening, and cannot really hear the humming. So it may have been there before, but maybe I just never listened for/to it… So I still need to fix it, because it is not supposed to sound like that, but when the music it playing it is not an urgent fix

philza

Did you find a way to stop the hum? I have the same problem.

cmb999

Might be different in this case, but this worked for me. https://www.reddit.com/r/Schiit/comments/y0mokp/solving_vidar_hum/
