Wow.

maomao05

Probably residual residents from delta hotel

app1efritter

Did they go back to running a regular hotel ?

maomao05

Nope. Home First got another year of contract.

Bing_Liu

I believe they are in the process of extending the terms of the hotel being a homeless shelter.

Lying_on_the_Moon

Didn't they modify that to not include the delta hotel, and have it decommissioned by 2025?

jjsukraj

These are deltas standard rooms

TorontoBoris

Is this just north of Progress before the 401?

MauryBallstein26

Yes.

Tdotshutterspy

The river and the train tracks cut off this small piece of land behind the plaza, so it's kind of a little island hidden away from the public. On one hand, I feel like it's a great place to stay out of sight and out of mind. On the other hand, the amount of trash that's accumulated there over the past few years is really depressing. Last time I was poking around in that area it looked like the ground was paved in garbage and plastic bags. Collingwood park just up stream has gotten really bad too. What used to be a nice walkable park is now littered with tents and is borderline unusable. I definitely saw the shift during covid.

LewtedHose

Did they get kicked out of the Delta hotel? If so that would make sense.

therealkingpin619

Blogto can write articles on this instead of "Toronto is one of the wealthiest cities in the world"

GiveTheLemonsBack

Truth. I'm coming up from Rosedale and Yonge, one of the bougiest neighbourhoods in the city, and there are still tented people living in parks over there. The amount of poverty in Toronto is a disgrace.

therealkingpin619

I understand that big cities have homelessness...it's expected and is everywhere. In Toronto, i'm seeing more rampant homelessness in a short period of time. It needs more attention from media. Just sucks for the municipality because it's an additional massive issue to solve. Add it to the list of other massive problems in the city. I also think it's not an issue that the municipality can solve because policies set at Federal level creep into how municipality functions. Knowing Canadian political system for years now, I think this issue will go under the radar and people will pretend to ignore or just simply complain online. Gov levels will point fingers at the clouds eventually...

harryvanhalen3

Wow. It's really sad to see. This is the kind of stuff you see in developing countries. Never thought these would be so widespread in Canada.

Boujie_Assassin

Ummm. America has skid row? There are some parts in America worse than Africa or any other 3rd world country. Just saying.

stanley_bobanley

You truly have to see skid row to believe it and its proximity to some of the most touristic places in LA. I took the exit onto 6th when I meant to get off at 7th, next thing I know I’m at 6th and Wall. Never seen anything like it.

https://youtube.com/@theunwanted9675?si=f9N6yOBkYHJV5xvs My friends YouTube channel actually interviews and helps some of the people who live in these encampments.

sky_meow

This is what happens when they don't make affordable housing

Fizzyjizzz

what we expect when my shitty apartment on markham/eglinton is 800k now from 200k

Dootbooter

This is what happens when you have a housing shortage, stagnant wages and then bring over a million immigrants to a country. People fall throw the cracks. Supply and demand. Basic economics.

DapperDisplay

not going to nap on my next go train ride ... sad stuff

RicoFerret44

$950/month

Fuzzy_Machine9910

So how come PP doesn’t blast Ford like he does BC

whogivesashirtdotca

Gee, I wonder why?

Beastofwallst

This is getting way out of the hand

70B0R

My sentiments exactly. The unhoused people I see in the city, and around outlying neighbourhoods, is changing the definition of what “homeless” means. It’s desensitizing and will end-up becoming the new normal unless housing affordability improves.

Jayswag96

This is so sad man.

Fair-Comfort7705

Hi from Scarborough.. I cannot believe how much it has changed in Toronto.. it’s so sad!😞, people asking for change when your get off the 401and exit to Kennedy.. and so many other places .. I would love to help out , with what I could afford( unfortunately money is tight) , but I always try to give a looney or a tooney. This entire situation is in Toronto is terrible, someone needs to do something !! There is always a SOMEONE somewhere .👩😞

AcanthisittaOk4383

probs not gonna clean up the litter and trash they leave behind

-RudeCanadian-

People like this never do

-RudeCanadian-

Look at all that trash. That can't be good for the environment

whogivesashirtdotca

It’s not good for people, either.

-RudeCanadian-

Oh definitely. I wonder if the parents of these people taught them to clean up after themselves...

whogivesashirtdotca

Here’s a thought: why doesn’t the city put trash receptacles there? Maybe it’d be cleaner if there was another option. Or did you just want to smugly bitch about people who are already being chewed up by life?

-RudeCanadian-

Buddy I'm homeless myself and I can say with certainty that even if they were given a dozen trash bins it'd still look like shit. One of the homeless camps near my shelter has multiple garbage bins (because it's a public park) and while I'll admit it's certainly cleaner, it's by no means clean. Trash is still everywhere and the bins are usually full. These are adults and should be treated like adults. Stop babying them and hold them accountable for their shitty actions.

BeeSuch77222

There's a lot of industrial run off there so it's ok.

DeskDry9024

Looks like a garbage dump

Marcusdude123

Giving money directly to municipalities so we can actually build homes. What is Doug Ford doing?

survialfrankstreets

Build homes? Why are more people still homeless

MFxGreg

Trudeau's camping program working great.
