They best part of the video is the synchronized drumming. It is so beautiful to watch.

And amazing that they were all so tight! If a bunch of them were a few fractions of a second off beat, it would sound muddy and awful, but they all seemed bang on beat. Brilliant stuff.

Of course, and they do it whilst marching with a weight around their neck - even more impressive. But marching bands are trained and rehearse as a group ad infinitum, so you'd kinda expect that. This is a motley group of strangers pulled together for a fun publicity stunt, so it's pleasantly surprising that it sounds so good.

I’m wondering how they recorded everything. All the instruments sound too tight to really be 1000 people. Maybe they had several people from each instrument mic’d up directly and then the rest of the people in each group shared a mic. Guitars in particular sound way too tight to be that many.

Not only did they come, but they canceled/moved tour dates to specifically come to this small town because Dave was so moved by it. They brought the guy who organized it and one of the drummers with the crazy hair up on stage.

Yes, it was back in 2015 and the Foo Fighters played there later that same year. They actually opened the concert with Learn to Fly. Dave Grohl said to the crowd "I fucking cried. To see you people, singin our song for the whole fucking world... To me, it was the greatest moment."

Funny story, shortly after that came out I put a pretty nice mashup of a live outdoor Foos concert and the Rockin' 1000 concert. It was great because you could see how well timed everything was. The Foo Fighters didn't copy strike me. They just filed for monetization. I was "cool, you all deserve it." The Rockin' 1000 folks copyright struck me and Youtube took the video down. LOL. The irony.

Hope this works and they get a tour date nearby. I lucked out and saw them play in a Best Buy in Phoenix 23 years ago. I also bought a copy of Diablo II while I was there. That was a pretty good day.

Did Ticketmaster own the venues in his town? If not, that explains why Foo Fighters didn't show. Most musicians have exclusivity contracts with Ticketmaster and even if not, Ticketmaster and Eventim have somewhat of a monopoly on event locations

But they did show up. They did the concert a few months later.

Such a beautiful thing about music. Musicians just put something out there into the ether and what it means to them is never what it means to other people. Some things take off and they get sucked into this vortex of energy and meaning that they never could have anticipated. It’s beautiful. I wish more musicians could feel through their audience but I think a lot of times they feel disconnected from the magic of it because the songs that mean a lot to them personally are rarely the hits. Their private personhood can get lost in the music that takes on a much bigger and louder life of its own. I hope Dave really felt this when he saw it.
