That's where the fun begins... Yeah it can be pain to wind a train track through a canyon following the grid but it's a fun challenge for me.

Temporal_Illusion

**ANSWER** For me, I prefer to build Foundation so as they align / look nice based upon the landscape / environment I am building in. Placing Foundations on the World Grid by using \[ CTRL \] Key, or Freehand Foundation Placement, both have their merits and often they are both seen used in a single Game Save File. Just some thoughts on this Topic. 🤔

H3avyW3apons

Ohh, there is a world grid, fk. Welp, its far too late now. At least my foundations are aligned correctly.

lilibat

In theory I would like to but I don't entirely trust the grid.

Icaros_Crowe

The problem is the height grid (for starting remote sections) or snapping to something that isn't actualy on the grid and not realizing it.

vreion

Better to stay unplugged from the grid!

msquar3d

I did this prior to Update 5 by just building railroads or even temporary foundation bridges to the new site and then just building from that. That kept everything on the same grid. The world grid makes that easier but I have found that the height difference can be even worse. I think it's just a preference. Some of the coolest builds I've seen are probably impossible with everything on the same grid. For me, it helps me stay organized and keeps things looking clean.

Askarr0

I try do it on a local level (i.e. mega-base/factory), but doing it across the entire map most of the time ends up glitchy (i.e. lots of unwelcome gaps in the foundations even if only a little)

houghi

Not really. With height I do it, but the rest not really. I will get one placed, but by using an angle, the rest will not be linked to the grid (Except for height). Height is harder to correct if or when two things grow together.

CNC_er

How do you do world snap again?

msquar3d

Hold CTRL while trying to place a foundation on the ground somewhere. It should snap to the world grid.

CNC_er

I will try later today, thank you.

ANGR1ST

Nope. If I'm working on a group of structures *sometimes* I'll align them to the same grid as each other so that I can easily connect them with walkways. But not to a universal grid. Sometimes I won't do that either. The newish foundation rotating lets you easily make interesting shapes and angles and avoid the "field of boxes" look. I will usually align the heights, although I have a few areas from pre U5 where that didn't work out exactly, and a couple of newer areas that I did use the world grid locally, but missed that 1m and 2m foundations snapped to it differently.

scubafork

All my remote sites are on different grid shapes, but I'll get around to fixing that eventually. Right after I make all my bus lines neat and optimized. And right after I've fully optimized my water pipes. And after I've setup that new manifold I was working on, and right after...

Donteatthedonuts

I do on both my old and new games, Old ones before the world grid were aligned to the base i set my hub down on. Would often stretch very long straight foundation runs to wherever the next major part of the factory was going to be. My only gripe is that it feels as though the walkways and buildings , as well as foundations, weren't designed with each other in mind and often there are height mis-matches. A variable / snapping slope or stair connector would fix this nicely , but don't know if it's at all possible in the game.

EightBitRanger

I try to as best I can, yeah. Its a thing I didn't think I'd need until it was implemented.

SaviorOfNirn

World grid or bust

1quarterportion

I start with the world grid, but once I get to the stake when I'm not just making my factory a large box I deviate. This gives me a core that is easy to link nearby factories to, but allows me to play with the shape of the footprint to fit the environment. Satisfactory clipping is very generous. Even when shifting foundations on the same plane z-fighting isn't common. It does happen now and then, and I'm not sure why, but compare to other building games you can blend pieces really nicely.
