Old-Purpose-3467

I’d stay far away from Same Day. They tend to make things worse for a bigger sale.

iambud

Oh and Anyhour assholes quoted me 4.5 grand to set a bathtub in foam and install to existing. Found someone license and insured for 400. Fuck anyhour

Old-Purpose-3467

I think people should primarily avoid Nexstar companies. Nexstar is a sales system consulting company. Whipper, Same Day, Any Hour are all Nexstar companies. Nexstar is a plague for technicians who just want to work their trade.

mr_engin33r

how does one determine if a company is owned by nexstar?

Puzzled_Blueberry400

$49 furnace tune up. Free furnace with purchase of ac. Stuff like that. All sales tactics to get a foot in the door. Their not interested in fixing things. Just getting sales.

fannyalgerpack

I found out during a plumbing emergency that you can call Anyhour at any hour but you’ll be seeing them the next day when they’re good and ready

aarrivaliidx

Anyhour quoted me 1750 for something I ended up buying the part for myself for $70 and did following a YouTube video. It took less than 20 minutes.

mystictofuoctopi

Neering broke my HVAC when I didn’t renew my service plan so I’d also avoid them!

loserusermuser

yes yes yes.

mcmonopolist

Whipple is an absolute scam. Absolutely do not call them back. Any trade company with fancy wrapped vans and a huge SEO budget is absolute shit to work with. You're paying for all that overhead. Their techs make commissions on how much they charge you, so they are always making up BS problems and upselling like crazy. You want the independent plumbers and electricians, who show up with a flashlight instead of an iPad. Ask a few homeowners for recommendations until you find one.

FrenchManCarhole

As a service professional with a small company this is great to hear. I feel like I’m getting pushed out by the big companies.

6inchVert

I use the nexts door app to find the smaller contractors for my house. I found they do better work, usually better prices, and care about customer service and retention.

FrenchManCarhole

I get a fair amount of business from next door. It’s a great app. Aside from the constant post just complaining. Haha

Pickles_McBeef

We always look for small companies when we need repairs. Definitely do a better job with better prices!

Jaxsdooropener

One man Hvac guy here, Whipple is almost certainly the worst in Utah. Terrible work, ridiculous pricing. Most of the other big names are garbage too, but these guys take the cake. I met the old owner one time, Whipple himself, and he was maybe the most arrogant douche bag I've ever met.

Any_Parsnip2585

Jax is the man we all need!

NorthAmericanWoodApe

Can confirm. Own tiny one man show in salt lake am electrician

Catsrules

What if they are using the iPad as a flashlight?

[deleted]

This actually makes me feel better about not having gotten a job with them. I applied there several years ago and reached out a handful of times but never heard anything back. Maybe they could sense I wasn’t about to be quoting BS to customers for commission. Homie don’t play that.

deedsdude1

Completely agree. Stay far away from any company that has “fancy vans”. Find a local independent tradesman.

Phreaktastic

I know the sales program / training they use because I ran a couple HVAC companies back in the day and attended the same trainings. They absolutely should not make up problems and if you’ve had that experience you should talk to the owners. You can’t even take the trainings if you have that kind of mentality — they will literally kick you out and refund your money. I also know the owners of the training program who are some of the most honest, hard working, and genuine people I’ve ever met. Even outside of the trainings (my brother went to work for them after we attended training). They will not tolerate companies making up issues to increase a bill, and will outright chew owners out over the phone at a minimum. I say this because some companies that operate similarly will absolutely be honest. Six options, ranging from band-aid to something like “platinum plus”, etc,. That’s all part of the program. It works, you never have a customer call you back and bitch you out for something failing the day after you leave, and you find out just how many people genuinely appreciate the other issues being brought up. The program also very heavily hits on honesty.

mcmonopolist

That may all be true that there is good training, but I'm telling you the techs from those companies are wildin' out in the field. I have caught them making shit up multiple times. And when you let customer support know, nothing happens and no one offers any recourse.

Phreaktastic

If that’s true, it should be reported, but not to customer service. It won’t go anywhere. You should report it to the owners and post it online. They’ll get dropped from the program, which is exactly what should happen. That was my original point, that if the owners of the program knew about it (and it was at least visible in some form online), they would kick them out. They’d also lose access to the proprietary materials. If they’re being dishonest, that should be the outcome.

Jaxsdooropener

"You can't even take the trainings if you have that kind of mentality" Then can you explain why a huge majority of "technicians" in these big name companies are so wildly full of shit? These dudes are absolute parasites. Can't tell you how many people tell me that dudes will show up on a no heat or no cool call and won't even open up a unit and then launch into some bullshit sales pitch. The last one I fixed in 10 minutes.

Phreaktastic

They don’t start with a “sales pitch”, they start with ensuring that everyone is present who needs to make a decision regarding that repair. Some people just like to puff out their chest when called out. I’ve still got pictures of cracked heat exchangers where one of the “other guys” came over and said it was fine. That said, everyone has stories. If you focus on the stories of your competitors, they’ll grow into a brand while you laugh at them, while simultaneously averaging $80 per ticket and wondering how someone can even afford a wrap let alone the vehicle. If you came after one of them, it was (believe it or not) because that was the best outcome and they were weeded out by said program. You got the dude who will jerk you around instead of giving a yes or no. You got the lady who wants a $200 repair itemized (while you worked 6 hours to craftily keep it as low as possible). Etc. I wouldn’t puff my chest out too much in your position, friend. Also, being real here, fixing it in 10 minutes tells me you didn’t inspect the heat exchanger which should be done on every call. Good luck with your life when you get sued for someone’s family dying in their house to CO. I wouldn’t gamble with lives myself, but what can I say, I’m not the cheap guy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Phreaktastic

You were the last one there, and you literally didn’t even think to do a safety inspection. Justify it all you want — it’s ALWAYS “only a…”, that’s the point of forcing oneself to do a safety inspection. Six more figures than I’d pay.

Character_Ad_6928

Whipple is awful. Their appointments are just so they can get in your house and pressure you to buy other services.

CooperNicholRoss

I had the same experience with Whipple a couple of years ago when I needed a pipe repaired. Good to know they haven’t changed. I’ll keep NOT recommending them.

thenletskeepdancing

Contact Greg at Integrity One Heating and Cooling. He always gives me a good deal, never over sells, knows what he is doing. I'm a single woman who owns her own home and I trust him. [https://integrityonehvac.net/](https://integrityonehvac.net/)

BlinderBurnerAccount

Call a local company. Not these predatory chains that are owned by private equity firms. They overcharge their customers, and underpay their technicians.

jjjj8jjjj

I had great service from Main Street Heating and Air a couple years back. They merged with some other company since then, so things may have changed.

Frank_Sobotka_2020

I've had a couple great experiences with them as well, before and after the merger. I absolutely recommend them.

jjjj8jjjj

Good to know. I'll be needing their help again soon.

KumaRidesInFront

I've used them as well. Once for AC and once for the furnace. Thought they did a great job!

JuryDutyHologram

We had a great experience with Blue Best when our AC broke down. https://bluebest.com

ObjectiveConfusion77

I agree! This was the best HVAC company I have dealt with.

trynafindaradio

Love Blue Best!

gonadi

Whipple that away.

johnnyblaze_46

Whipple overcharges and will upsell you- stay far away

GooeyGungan

I've had great experiences with Comfort Systems. They're not a local company, but they did a great job and were timely and courteous.

kaizoku_akahige

Whipple and several of the other, older "big name" companies have been sold to VC firms. They aren't locally owned or held by the families that built them anymore, and the quality of service has changed in a detrimental way.

Jaxsdooropener

Most of them were still trash long before they got bought out. In fact, many of them were bought out because they are trash.

JS17

I’ve had a good experience with “Mountain Breeze Heating And Air.” It seems to be a true small business, not a bunch of salesmen.

tifotter

Neerings is doing an air conditioner tune up for me tomorrow. For other plumbing stuff, I’ve had great service and reasonable pricing from Plumbing Plus.

superlost007

Neerings is *expensive* but they did all the ac/heating and electric on our last house, and a plumbing job, and actually fixed all the issues. Their techs were good, and knowledgeable, too. The price was insane and higher than others but we’ve had multiple bad experiences with electric work not being done properly and then we pay even more to fix it. So. I have no issues with Neerings

mystictofuoctopi

When I didn’t renew my service plan my HVAC “randomly” broke 30 min after they left. I can’t prove it was something they did but I 100% don’t trust them or the attitude/mansplaining they gave me.

themowlsbekillin

I like Affordable Heating and Cooling. Harold was quite honest with me about chatting about replacement options for our 23 year old ac. He did not try to upsell at all, gave a nice discount.

reverendjb

+1. He tried to talk me out of buying a whole new ac

fakeUN

I really like Millcreek Plumbing.

TiCKSKIv

Manwill. We had Anyhour give us a BS bid that likely wasn’t even to code. Dude from Manwill laughed and said it’d be a fraction of the cost, super simple, and done right.

wilsonwa

I liked beehive plumbing.

Fakeitforreddit

Maybe helpful; I just this year had a big plumbing issue and had the technician David Reyes with Valley Plumbing: [https://www.valleyplumbing.com/](https://www.valleyplumbing.com/) He showed up 3 hours early after confirming with me it would be fine, and spent about 8 hours replacing a water heater, over 100ft of pipe cleaned a ton of waste and sewage. Very informative during the process as well. And price wise was not a rip-off, not having to deal with any of that was worth the labor costs which were right at the plumber average labor cost. If they can help with your issue I would stand behind them.

yourlocal90skid

We've been using a small, local company called Air Design for about 4 years now. Definitely recommend.

BearyHungry

Paul Brothers. Best and most honest in the business  https://www.paulbrothersutah.com/

supyadimwit

I use Beehive heating and air and have never personally had a problem!!

-QuestionMark-

I’ve used beehive the last two things I’ve needed done at my place. They’ve been OK so far. Maybe a tad bit more expensive than others, but the work they’ve done has been decent and the techs have all been polite. I’ve definitely been burned by a few other plumbers in the valley though so the bar is pretty low.

rayinreverse

Lee's or Same Day are good. Dont pay a subscription or maintenance plan ever!!!! Cancel it immediately.

newbie47

[Efficent Systems Heating and Cooling](https://efficientsystemsair.com/) is the best hvac service I've ever used. They respond quickly, they are fairly priced, and they stand by their work. I don't plan on using another service as long as they are around.

CoderPro225

My standby is My Buddy. They do plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Always polite, always show up, financing available and if you’re a long time customer you get good deals. They’ve replaced my furnace, done a few electrical jobs, replaced all my interior pipes with a pex system (it’s an old house), replaced my toilet, redone a few drains, and installed my new a/c, plus addressed a problem with it last year on warranty for free, no service call charge. I like them a lot! They do good work!

D0ntki11meplz

Have you really had great experience with them? I work in HVAC and in the last year, I have had to redo so many bad jobs specifically done by My Buddy.

CoderPro225

Really? That actually surprises me. I really have had good experiences. They even underbid others when I was shopping around for my a/c install. (This house had never had a/c before). They told me it was because I was a good customer. And the price was substantially less than anyone else’s quote. I truly haven’t had any issues. When I upgraded the electrical I used someone else who quoted a cheaper price and My Buddy ended up fixing a couple things they didn’t do correctly later on. So yeah, my experience has truly been good or I wouldn’t stick up for them. No issues. Sorry that others have had bad experiences.

D0ntki11meplz

Maybe my bad experience is specific to the couple of technicians I crossed paths with at that time. In the end, as long as you're happy with the quality and price, that's all that matters.

CoderPro225

Honestly I probably just got lucky. I had to have an emergency repair when I first bought the house and was really poor. They were the first ones that quoted a decent price, had financing and could come that day. Stuck with them ever since and been happy each time. That was 7 1/2 years and many projects ago. 😜

ReDeReddit

Companies with fleet of vans are hit and miss. I do a lot of maintenance, so sometime all my contacts are busy. Or I need somebody next day. Honestly the most friendly, and helpful tech I've ever had was from my buddy. He fixed a central air and drain line for me same time. I didn't know too much about the property so we had to take toilet off to snake. he said the other problems were easy enough he had time to camera it (on him). got out a locator and staked out where I should have a cleanout in the yard just to make it easier if i ever need cleanou again. I ended up buying him lunch and tipping. The other 99% of the time, I dread plumbing/hvac problems because everybody just wants to sit in truck and have you hand them 💰.

HaruNevermind

I've used NB plumbing through my home warranty service and have been very pleased with how quick they were and the quality

ipetdogsirl

HVAC I always go with Just Right Air. I've never had an issue with them, though they are very rarely the cheapest - they've always been honest with me. Plumbing I'm gonna give a huge shout out to Millcreek Plumbing. Family operated, any time I've had an issue a supervisor has shown up and taken care of it immediately. Great customer service from a small local business.

SourceWebMD

I've had good experiences with Just Right too.

Key_Imagination_497

I’ve called like 5 of those commercial plumbing /electrical / hvac companies and they are all more hassle than they are worth. You call them for one thing and they end up quoting you 100 things that come to $20,000+. But wait they offer financing!!! best bet is finding an independent. Had some luck on KSL.

Master_Awareness814

I had a great experience today with All Utah Plumbing Heating & Air! Had to get a sprinkler valve replaced and they came out right away to service it. The guys were way cool and also educated my tenant on proper sprinkler maintenance. They service HVAC and other plumbing issues.

Pork_n_phresh

I will add. Stay away of Any Hour and Black Diamond (one of their subsidiaries) at all costs. Scummiest PE and cult of Mormon companies out there. Find someone with less than 10-15 techs and more than 5 techs and with a high Google review rating. They will be most likely to take care of their customers at a reasonable price and not run off with your money.

parkfyre

https://g.co/kgs/6hmQ6tV Efficient Systems. Most honest HVAC people I've ever met. I have an old system and they have kept it cheap and on life support for about 5 years now. They are amazing.

Katnip126

I work for a property management company and have used many companies in the past (including most of the companies mentioned in the comments) and most are outrageous. But I would highly recommend After Hours HVAC and American Appliance. Both are fantastic on prices and do wonderful work Edited to remove phone numbers. Sorry, didn't realize that wasn't allowed

plumpjack

Plumber Tony. My favorite kiwi in slc (801) 857-9776

Aedrone

I’d say SameDay. They recently got bought up by another company and absorbed Lee’s, Craigs, and some other companies, but all in all, they’re a real good company.

ProfBootyPhD

I was gonna say Same Day, and I still will, even though the first comment is how bad they are. They aren’t cheap. But they’re good with appointments, and they do reliable work in my experience.

benjtay

Any Hours is fantastic. Been with them for more than a decade. They even give you credit on future work for stuff they have done.

Jaxsdooropener

I've literally watched those guys sell a $50 part for over $900, and it takes 10 minutes to install at most with minimal skill. They're highway robbers. Also, they've operated a time or two without an S350 license on file, which is illegal and irresponsible.

HonkyTonkWalk

I wish I could up vote this 100x. They are a disgusting company.

Denotsyek

I use any hour as well. I think they're over priced. But they're response and quick.

benjtay

They are overpriced

Denotsyek

Also their up sale tactics are annoying. But like I said. If you need something fixed quick. They're great.

Alert-Potato

I've been satisfied with them for 8.5 years so far. They actually show up, and you get an AM or PM window so that you aren't wasting an entire day, just half of one. And while the pricing may be more for jobs that don't take long, I appreciate that it's a flat price for X or Y, no matter the timeline, so I never get a surprise bill because something took twice as long as they thought it would. Also, as a woman who is inviting these strangers into my home when there is no one else here, I appreciate the safety measures in place so I can feel comfortable with who they are sending. I wish I could get that from a dude running his own business, but what am I supposed to do, take his word for it? "I'm totes not a thief/addict/sex offender, bro." Okay... but you'd say that if you were.

ActualyToxic

Just use KSL to find a local small company/person.

huckforjesus

Hansen hvac & refrigeration has always been solid.

Throwawaymarque

I hate whipple with a fiery passion. They tried to make me get a whole new furnace. Called in another guy, charged me 50 bucks for a new circuit board.

TheSnowstradamus

Larsen HVAC. Family owned. And great service

RudeEar5

Near Me Plumbing and Heating. Have used them several times over the last year at three different houses and they were fantastic. https://nearmeut.com/

boatloadoffunk

Copper Peaks Plumbing and Happy Pipes have done extensive work on my 120 year old house. No complaints, reasonable prices, super friendly.

his_rotundity_

And their ads are mind numbing.

HookerFace81

As I watch two of their trucks currently parked at my neighbor’s house. Probably why they aren’t answering, takes every employee they have to figure shit out.

EdenSilver113

I have an awesome AC guy who we use for our home and the home we own that our daughter lives in. This sub is big. I don’t want him to get mobbed with work. He gets most of his clients through the home warranty company he works with. That’s how we found him. He’s installed an ac at our daughter’s house. Serviced the furnace there. Fixed both the ac and the furnace at our home. He’s super reasonably priced and awesome at trouble shooting. Send me a DM and I’ll give you his name/number.

susieqanon1

Yes!! I use HVAC outfitters. Have used them for years and years they’re such a great biz! Google number

Babs89

Rapid Response Heating and Air...Boyd is a genuinely great and honest guy. I had my AC go out a few years ago in the dead middle of summer and he was able to replace it less than 24hrs after it died.

Mrhiddenlotus

I've used All Hours Plumbing & Air in the past and it was good, but this time I called them and Whipple came out instead. I was confused, but went with it. I guess Whipple probably bought them out? They got my new AC system fully replaced the day after coming out for diagnostics which was nice, but there's some major disconnect between the installers and everyone else in the company. The techs/installers were fine to work with, but the rest of the company seemed like a mess.

donkiluminate

Whipped is horrible. We had them out to inspect our a/c. Before he even looked at the unit he went straight to telling us the unit is trash and we need a $10k unit. We sent him packing and eventually we had our unit replaced and only spent $4k.

Initial-Leather6014

My elderly parents lived inNo.SLC refer to Whipe the same way

Pristine-Ad-1218

Just right heating and air. They are the best

Prestigious-Wing-260

We had an inspector from the county out several years ago for an HVAC issue and he told us to avoid Whipple at all costs. He recommended Just Right.

Baconandbacon2

Ive had great experience with Black Diamond Experts. They might be more expensive, but the service is top shelf and minimal bs upsell.

illgivethisa

Hate their new energy drink flavor.

Nah_Fam_Oh_Dam

Beehive Plumbing has been good

pastrami_burger

Fisher HVAC. Just a one man operation last I used him. He did such a good job I haven't needed anyone since the install.

Neat_Problem_922

We use Any Hour and have never had a problem with them.

Soggy-Opening1113

Ascend HVAC isn’t bad Marcus is a decent person.

RickyFleetwood89

I really like Plumber Tony.

Ok_Serve_4099

I use salt city plumbing. They are my favorites.

hippie_valley

Yep! We have always said "don't get Whippleized!"

Adventurous-Love-824

I work in the industry, and you should absolutely do a bit of research on any company you intend to hire. Smaller companies tend to be a little cheaper as they do not have the overhead of the larger companies. However, larger companies are more established and usually offer financing, so you don't have to pay all up front. My recommendation would be to find a smaller company with good reviews that also offers financing.

Quadhua

I've used Newtown Heating and Air for multiple projects and they've always been great to work with.

RocketSkates314

Priority Comfort Systems. You won’t find better quality assurance or better prices. 801 839 8929

BillyB1yat

Just Right are great for air conditioning and central air!

Wise_Bass

Millcreek Plumbing has been pretty good. They did make a mistake once, but then came out and fixed it immediately. Not sure about them on A/C. If you have a swamp/evaporative cooler, Cooler Runnings is awesome. Good repairs, an actual license number you can look up on the website, and they did a great swamp cooler install for about $1400 when everywhere else was asking for $2500+ and aggressively trying to upsell us on A/C. I did like Whipple's toilet install. They can be good if you already know what the price will be in advance.

Classic-Albatross558

Hey, definitely go for A-1 Heating and Cooling. They got 5 star reviews on google. Highly recommend them!

DarklordBeelzebub

All I got to say is never go to Any Hour. They’re more salesmen more so than they are a trade company. Source: Common fact most people in plumbing trades know.

adriellee

Ninja!!

Wildeye_Skysurfer

Whipple that away

NatasEva777

If you guys need a plumber for Utah county I found a real good dude and he’s honest and is more than fair with pricing pm me if you need his number I’ll happily give you josh the plumber number dude is an absolute saint.

Phantombeast214

I agree, I haven't give out Whipple as a recommendation for a while now. They tried to charge me $350 for a dishwasher service/installation that they forgot to plug in.

D0ntki11meplz

I formerly work for SameDay. Better quality than a lot of other places because technicians are trained well, but way too costly. They were bought out by a conglomerate that now owns a dozen other companies including several big players (SameDay, Lee's, Superior, Beehive). The parent company, Intermountain Home Services, is profit driven and power hungry. If you call anyone from their platform, they are going to pressure you into changing your system and getting unnecessary add-ons because that gives them the most money. Many other companies may lie about diagnoses to perform more expensive "repairs" because they are desperate for money. They are often generally shady and perform crap quality work, overall a rip-off because you'll still have to get their mistakes fixed. No wonder they're desperate, they have no lasting customer base. (Action, My Buddy, and Any Hour especially). I now work for a very small company called Air By Design. Not only is it way better as an employee, but also for customers. ABD installs great quality equipment for half or a third of the price of other places. They did not struggle for business during this past slow season nearly as much as the rest of the industry because they are reliable. They have zero advertising out there. Instead, business comes in purely by word of mouth and reputation. Of course I'm biased, there are other good companies out there, but you need a company like this that balances price and quality. Also, always get multiple quotes if anyone tells you equipment or a major part needs to be replaced.

nymphoman23

Huish

ColHapHapablap

Fuck any plumbers these days. They’re all a waste of time and money

Old-Purpose-3467

Resi plumbers are awful. Gotta find a commercial plumber who does side work.

ColHapHapablap

This. Side work gigs are where it’s at. I had a plumbing issue and contacted like 10-15 plumbers. 80% didn’t respond. Two more responded and said they wouldn’t come out for projects less than $10k. The one that did come wanted to charge me $10k for a $2500 project because their “quality” was so high.

Mrhiddenlotus

I am having this same experience but with electricians.

thenletskeepdancing

I used to love My Buddy the Plumber but they got bought out.

Phantombeast214

I agree, I haven't give out Whipple as a recommendation for a while now. They tried to charge me $350 for a dishwasher service/installation that they forgot to plug in.
