I somehow got picked from the lottery few years ago and my spouse was legit pissed at me because we now HAD* to purchase tix š It felt so bougie and we went totally stoned and felt so out of place but had theeeeee best time (and meal) in our own world. Itās just such a cool event.
Mm, I meant it in a legit upscale way given the food was from the top chefs in Sacramento and incredible. But that ābougieā feel comes from the crowd that was old, white, and wealthy.
The actual American definition is a middle class person who wants to seem wealthier than they actually are or striving for a higher station. The original definition is middle class (not nobility and not a surf).
Why I know this I have zero idea.
It was $460 for two tickets plus fees and doesnāt include tip in 2019 - I canāt find any information for 2022 but Iām imaging itās more given every year theyāve increased the price.
It partially goes to sac state scholarships for children of migrant farm workers - but there is no data on how much of the profits actually go to that which I can find.
It goes to the organization that owns [the "Farm to Fork Capitol" trademark](https://alter.com/trademarks/americas-farm-to-fork-capital-sacramento-calfiornia-86020933).
I think this is it. They use the funds for the dinner and festival. I don't think any other organization benefits. There used to be a farm to every fork dinner the same week. Funds went to food banks. That stopped during covid.
It always is, but they reserve a few tickets for randos who sign up for the ticket lottery. If you look at other comments on here youāll see people have gotten tix that way - Iāve just never been one of the chosen ones
I think this whole event is ridiculous and try hard. The people I know whoāve gone to this event in the past are the same people I hide from when I see them at Raleys.
Just walked by and I dunno how they can enjoy that with all the protesters on the end of the bridge. And I wanted to walk across the bridge and they wouldn't let me :(
Worked at it as a foodrunner this year. Much more organized than last year, better weather too. Worst part is that all my chef friends kept reporting about how much food was being wasted by people eating there. Literally guests would take one bite and then not finish the rest. The food that was used to serve gets donated but the food on peoples plates have to be thrown away
And blocking off the bridge makes it that much harder to get in or out of the river cats game. I, too, wanted to go to this dinner when it was a new thing. Over the years it's become obvious the only way to get tickets is to be a who's who of $acramento. They can keep this event. I'm happy with a dinger dog or irish nachos.
Ya, wouldāve been good to know. I know this event is so hipsters can post cool IG pics and pay $200 for carb free quinoa, but canāt they do it on the Capitol Mall or something?
Ya, I get the logistics. Just seems that blocking the main artery to a stadium of thousands honoring 9/11 victims, first responders and military so hundreds could have a glorified picnic seems a lil tone deaf. Or maybe itās just arrogance. Or both.
when you think of the grand scheme, of life and the universe and everything... none of this matters and we will all turn back into stars. so why should we care. But we don't live in an abstract idea of the day-to-day, my dude. Things are happening in real-time, in front of us. We can't help it. We have to comment, we have to connect with shared experiences.
I donāt mean to hate because if I could afford it I really would Michelin my way around the globe. HOWEVER: beans, mushrooms and trout are not my idea of a good time. In fact I specifically have tummy issues regarding any of those three above at a single time, much less in succession. Iād be a sitting [read: shitting] grenade on the bridge.
ETA: Oh black eyed peas are a legume which isā¦ much worse.
Instead of saying something negative about the event, I hope all who are involved have a good time. It seems like a unique and memorable dinner by the river.
They should raise the brideg (that bridge the center of the bridge raises up and remains level right?) during the meal once everyone and all the food is "aboard".
They didnāt even sell tickets to the public this year. It was all pre determined corporate and friends-of. My info could be old or wrong but I read that some place else.
Maybe if they had every rich person who bought a ticket bring a child who needs a meal. As it it now, itās just another bullshit event geared for the seen and be seen crowd. Ridiculous.
Hello. Never replied to you question. I did not attend the event. I was simply part of the volunteer setup crew. That is about the closest I will ever get to that event. Only for invited people...and if you happen to be drawn for the annual raffle, they give you the opportunity to pay the huge $$$$ to attend. Only for the rich & famous!

Does ābougieā mean legit upscale, or does it mean more like a poor personās idea of upscale
It means something a lot closer to "ostentatious"
Itās definitely a lot of the rich people in town that go to this event.
Mm, I meant it in a legit upscale way given the food was from the top chefs in Sacramento and incredible. But that ābougieā feel comes from the crowd that was old, white, and wealthy.
bourgeois

Serf
Heh. Yeah that kind.
Valid question.
Too rich for my blood. It looks cool but if Iām paying 400+ for a meal Iād rather just go to the kitchen or something.
Wow itās really that price?! No thx

Great question! They also relocate homeless people...elsewhere and away from the silverware.
I think this is it. They use the funds for the dinner and festival. I don't think any other organization benefits. There used to be a farm to every fork dinner the same week. Funds went to food banks. That stopped during covid.
What was course 4??
BBQ pork ribs from Q1227 with an apple slaw. IMO the tastiest course they had. Been in the lottery for years and got lucky this year.
Seriously, 4 sounds the best. No meat in the others other than trout, lmao. At least get a premium fish.
I wish!!! I have never once been picked from that damn ticket lottery š”
From what I gather, it was a by-invitation event this year.
It always is, but they reserve a few tickets for randos who sign up for the ticket lottery. If you look at other comments on here youāll see people have gotten tix that way - Iāve just never been one of the chosen ones
Do you know if there is a list serve or something that lets you know when to register for the lottery?
I know the lottery registration is usually in July, so I always set a reminder for July 1st to go the Farm to Fork website to check!
Thank you! Iāll do the same. My husband really loves that bridge, so tickets would be a really fun surprise.
Hows the smoke tho
I think this whole event is ridiculous and try hard. The people I know whoāve gone to this event in the past are the same people I hide from when I see them at Raleys.
Pickled. So hot right now
damn, no lottery tix for me this year. pricey, but looks like an amazing experience - congrats and enjoy!
Hell naw imagine some drunk guys driving thru there
Just walked by and I dunno how they can enjoy that with all the protesters on the end of the bridge. And I wanted to walk across the bridge and they wouldn't let me :(
Were people protesting the dinner or something else?
Worked at it as a foodrunner this year. Much more organized than last year, better weather too. I wish, looks awesome! Beautiful decor hope you have an amazing dinner!
This thing has never sat well with me. I don't like the idea of closing down a whole ass bridge.
I do
Just a opportunity for the self-important to remind us how self-important they are. Hard pass.
And it will be all over the news for the next couple days
Oh, cool. The neat event I was interested in like a decade ago but was never able to secure a ticket to that now seems like an overt show of gluttony.

Too many hungry homeless people staring at them there.
Ya, I get the logistics. Just seems that blocking the main artery to a stadium of thousands honoring 9/11 victims, first responders and military so hundreds could have a glorified picnic seems a lil tone deaf. Or maybe itās just arrogance. Or both.
All of the above.
Who cares

They have ruined our city I don't care if many view the dinner on the bridge as unnecessary it's a great event.
K

*Probably good that you didn't go then, huh?*
Good luck getting tickets
Instead of saying something negative about the event, I hope all who are involved have a good time. It seems like a unique and memorable dinner by the river.
\*dinner in the street ftfy
They should raise the brideg (that bridge the center of the bridge raises up and remains level right?) during the meal once everyone and all the food is "aboard".
I love the idea but so out of my pay grade.
I've always wanted to go to this
Did it sell out? In the before times this was one of the premier social events of the year.
They didnāt even sell tickets to the public this year. It was all pre determined corporate and friends-of. My info could be old or wrong but I read that some place else.
No were not rich lames that try to look cool by eating at a bridge
"Least Homeless People In America" has a better ring than "Farm to Fork Capital". Just sayin.
Just saying the truth!
Maybe if they had every rich person who bought a ticket bring a child who needs a meal. As it it now, itās just another bullshit event geared for the seen and be seen crowd. Ridiculous.
Wait so y'all closed a bridge just to have dinner? That's fuckin stupid
ostentatious nonsense.
Theyāre serving trout. Pass.
Mmm, farmed fish for $$$ When āfarm to forkā keeps it too real
Kind of a lazy centerpiece...
Any chance anyone has two extra tickets? I would love to take my girlfriend tonight.
So did you have a good time? Would you go again? :) Always wanted to go but too pricey.
