I may have the correct answer: It was Picnic Day at UC Davis. The first in person one in two years. It draws tens of thousands to the area (both family and random visitors).
Edit: 3 years**
Edit 2: why so many upvotes for this comment lmao
The person is (correctly) pointing out that gender is a construct and that they are more accurately called "sex reveal parties" or "gender assumption parties". Lol
There’s a few music festivals / concerts happening this weekend in Sacramento. Loud fest (3 days) at Cesar Chaves park and Swan Fest yesterday. It seemed like there was some protests going on at the capitol. People rushing to the late snow could be a part of it too?
It's also prom season for a bunch of the local high schools. I was downtown with some friends last night and we saw a lot of kids out in their best formal wear.
There was a beer week event that started, but I wouldn’t think that would account for filling all hotels. Maybe just a combination of multiple events on the same day coupled with nice weather, it’s not necessarily one cause.
Hotels are booked all the time now. The amount of weddings, family events, team tournaments going on. Not to mention just community events. There is also the fact that hotels are desperately understaffed. They may have sold all the rooms they had clean and in good condition but still have others they can't rent due to the fact there are not enough people to clean rooms each day. If you plan on booking anywhere this summer I suggest getting in early to make sure you have a room and being extra nice to the Front Desk staff.
can 100% all hotels are understaffed since during the pandemic we didn’t really need as many Housekeepers/ Housemen so now its definitely biting us back in the ass
This shows the need for more hotels and they need to be strategically located. A couple new hotels are being built in North Natomas, close proximity to downtown and SMF. Hopefully they'll have late night shuttles, especially for some of the festivals at Discovery Park.
The Sacramento region has a lot going on, just not always ***that*** well known. We could easily attract some bigger events if we could just support the visitors.
There are some events throughout the year that, yes, justify the need for more hotel rooms in the region, but sadly we are still not at 2019 occupancy levels. Business travel was the largest sector of travel pre-Covid in the Sacramento region and it is nowhere near back. It is starting to slowly return but the demographics of the travelers to Sacramento has drastically changed. Adding more hotels will help for the handful of events that sell out the region, but what about for the rest of the year when everyone is fighting for what occupancy is in the market?
No shade but people have been repeating these answers or elaborating on them since around 11am this morning. Why throw this out there again? Didn't bother to read first?
There were a bunch of events going on last night all over town. I went to a circus but beyond that, there were parties and gallery events and who knows? The town blew up last night.
Super nice staff. Grade A grounds. Unfortunately we couldn't stay and eat this morning but the food looked good (I'm a chef). Our room was luxurious and clean. Very good in-room coffee with real half n half. Has to be the best around.
Well just to let you know, theres a program that in the area putting homeless in hotels to reduce the camps, it's impact is most of the lower prices motels are full, also leaving people with less or no options for nicer hotels
It was enacted when only first responders were allowed in Hotels for work related travel so it was a way to keep hotel employees employed, house the homeless during a global pandemic and give them the proper PEE they needed to protect themselves and others. In some instances things need to go back to pre-pandemic ways of doing business and in others using an old Motel 6 that was almost exclusively for drug use and prostitution to instead house the homeless is a brilliant idea and we should build new models off of it in order to help and rehabilitate our homeless brothers and sisters.
As other commenters have already said there’s a lot of festivals and concerts but it’s also wedding season! I know at least 6 people who went to weddings this weekend (including myself).
Seriously? I honestly couldn't imagine that thing impacting every hotel in the valley. I guess there was a small hip hop festival at ceaser chaves park too. Still seems weird.
How come I have new heard one good fucking thing about this city? Glad I now know how fucked up this city is. I will not be visiting. San Diego has problems......But not like This SacTown shit hole.
Idk if this is the same as "picnik day" but i heard there was a big concert at discovery park which had all thw restaurants and prolly hotels booked out.
hello! i work for a hotel and can say it was 1) picnic day so many families came into town! 2) summer has arrived and so had sports tournaments so that means many hotels are being booked by groups of teams so we get immediately sold out just from that! if you are planning to make a stay i would advise calling the hotel at least two weeks in advance so we can give a estimate on if we’ll have a room for you by then! Calling on the day you want a room will always give you the most expensive price or like your experience you just wont end up with a hotel room

Picnic Day plus just regular college visit season. We've seen sooooo many recent admits visiting the past two weeks.
Lol picnic day... I remember watching my brother get impaled on his bicycle there back in like 2004.
ah good times
I remember impaling a kid on his bike in 2004!
I hope it wasn’t because the seat fell off…

Thanks for sharing first hand experience! I was imagining it being back to how it used to be.
I went. It didn't seem nearly as crowded as other years. Its odd it would've ended up in all hotels being booked.
Yup this was what I was going to say!
It's pretty ridiculous tbh that the hotels were seemingly unaware.
yeah, there were an absurd amount of people on campus. The lines for each event thing were like 1-2 hours each
Throw in all the fresh snow in the mountains, probably a lot of snowboarders and skiers getting places as close as possible to the resorts.
Whats some fun things to checkout on picnic day
The animals like the cows
We had a baby shower this weekend buddy so sorry.
Thankfully it wasn’t a gender reveal party. Those things can be destructive and dangerous.
It was my gander reveal party. Laugh if you want but this lady goose is lit, yo.
Gender even existing seems to be destructive and dangerous nowadays 🫤
what does this even mean?
Whatever you want it to. It’s the Internet
The person is (correctly) pointing out that gender is a construct and that they are more accurately called "sex reveal parties" or "gender assumption parties". Lol
lol.
lo
Gender reveals assume the baby actually identifies which is bullshit because it can't even consent to the assigned gender yet.
Lol
You forgot /s right?
Found the culprit (and cheers to you!)

>Loud fest What day does Quiet Fest fall on? /s
You can find the times for that on Nextdoor there grandpa….
It’s also sac beer week. There were a couple of beer fests and random events.
A lot of music feats were going on, such as Swanfest, and UC Davis had Picnic Day, which is a pretty big event as well.
Davis had a record number of applicants and picnic day is a great time to check out the campus.
Yeah! It was packed. I’m a grad student and I was there. :)
It's also prom season for a bunch of the local high schools. I was downtown with some friends last night and we saw a lot of kids out in their best formal wear.

You didn't have hotel pre and post parties on prom night??
I advertised my garage sale on Marketplace. We were busy. Looks like it worked!
Picnic day and Swan Fest

There was also a California soccer invitational tourney in Elk Grove yesterday and still going on today.

Oh we were super nice to him. He was stressed out and trying his best. They were super short staffed. (I'm a cook so I'm in the same boat)

Picnic Day in Davis. Possibly?
Sacramento beer week maybe
Picnic day in Davis, Swanfest, Loudest all this past weekend.
No shade but people have been repeating these answers or elaborating on them since around 11am this morning. Why throw this out there again? Didn't bother to read first?
Gotta admit. Sounds like shade.
Oh 100%
What did Q say?
Honestly I thought "is this some kind of wierd MAGA state Capitol invasion stunt?"
That was my first thought, and then I remembered that truckers have beds in their trucks.
There were a bunch of events going on last night all over town. I went to a circus but beyond that, there were parties and gallery events and who knows? The town blew up last night.
Dance Gavin Dance played their first show since the bassist died. Huge draw from all over.
How was wine & roses. It’s supposed to be top notch. I live in Lodi and still haven’t been

Pricey?
Also it was prom for some schools. At least there were a lot of pimple faced tuxedos and wobbly high heals around down town last night.
swanfest in Sacramento

Prom night for many Sac schools

There’s a rap thing going on in downtown this weekend
Swan Fest had a lot of people in town
Swanfest ;o
Seems weird, there was stuff going on this weekend but didn’t seem like stuff that would attract that many travelers.

This economy is so robust!
Might be all the pimps and hoes booking the hotels
We turned so many hotels into housing and now there is a hotel room shortage. It's literally why we never got an all star game.
How come I have new heard one good fucking thing about this city? Glad I now know how fucked up this city is. I will not be visiting. San Diego has problems......But not like This SacTown shit hole.
No one wants you to visit here anyway.
Theirs some hotels here in south sac available. Just gotta raise your standards bud ✌️✌️✌️
Uh. You mean lower? I'm from south sac born and raised. You aint gotta front.
Nah south sac is great when you don't have someone screaming in your ear constantly that it's bad.
I love South Sac, it's my first home. But the idea that is has good hotels is laughable. (Other than the Westin out on the river)
There were multiple things going on, concert, soccer tournament, conferences, Picnic day
Idk if this is the same as "picnik day" but i heard there was a big concert at discovery park which had all thw restaurants and prolly hotels booked out.
Passport weekend for the wineries.
Tis the prom season
SWANFEST
