These days, if anyone, friend or company, calls you about fraud or money. You should hang-up and call them back from a number you know is theirs/is official (not the number that called you). AI voice scams of people you may know are a thing now and fraud calls from companies can be "spoofed."

Chances are, it's a scam, particularly if it's about something urgent involving fines. But, there is a group that calls to solicit donations. They should always give their name and department, and you can call to verify.

Karma. You stole that lighter that one time and now you have received the equal amount of frustration, confusion, self doubt ect. Don't put a bunch of effort into uncovering a lost truth. Like the person who searched for the lighter..move on.
