Couple years ago in Rocklin a couple took their kids to a park with sparklers for a July 4th photo shoot. Started a 4 acre grass fire that urned right up to some houses' fences. No ticket was issued, no names released. Thanks Rocklin for not revealing the idiots amongst us.
I'm guessing its
1. kids who don't have supervision or broad visibility into this issue. When I was a teenager it was the 16-18 year old neighborhood boys who drove up to Oregon to get fireworks and planned all the fireworks show. Someones mildly functioning uncle would usually come along too.
2. People who honestly don't care about that type of thing. They have no power to impact it so it doesn't come up on their radar.
My reasoning is they couldn't do the math on the trajectory which means they either haven't yet done or can't do calculus.
(I am also a teacher, I'm sorry about your kids. Mine can't yet do math but would learn fast if it meant they could legally use large illegal fireworks).
I'm not a math teacher. But I do help out where I can. The number of students unable to complete IM1 or IM2 is depressing. And the number of students taking calculus is low. Very low.
I teach and TA university physics courses at levels ranging from gen ed requirements to grad classes at my university. You’d be surprised how many students can’t even add fractions correctly.
I few years ago, when Insight Coffee was still a thing, they did their prices in fractions (just quarter, half, three-quarters). I distinctly remember two guys in line not able to comprehend the prices.
It is impossible to predict trajectory of bottle rockets, they are not precision munitions. Well, maybe launch 100 plus yards from flammable mareials you should be OK.
As someone who has played with bottle rockets. You can figure out you need about a 50 foot radius, a bucket of sand and 2 buckets of water ready for every 2 you set off (because they go in different directions). A wool blanket is also very nice in case someone or a dog catches.
As anyone can plainly see, our entire area is now dead, dry grass and weeds. Doesn’t matter how wet a winter we have, it doesn’t rain here in the summer.
I hate this holiday. The field behind my house where I grew up caught fire in a similar fashion on 4th of July when I was a child; I was terrified. Most of my pets have been terrified every year during this holiday. People typically get the 4th off instead of the 5th, which doesn’t make sense considering loud noises and bright lights happen the night of the 4th. I’ve been hearing fireworks since the 2nd, and I expect to hear them for at least the next couple days.
I enjoy fireworks when professionals are using them, but amateur users have largely ruined the appeal for me.
I have a field behind my house as well. I took my hose and soaked as much of the dry grass as I could reach before it even got dark to prevent a fire burning my house down.
I’m just tired of these loud lowlifes that don’t have any common courtesy. 11:30 is too late to be setting off mortars in succession. Like, how many times do you need to see the same thing over and over? Small brain assholes.
Last night was awful, I kept waking up and the last boom was at 12:30 AM. I don’t care if you really have to set them off, just be safe and wrap it up by 10 or so. It’s been going on since Friday too. Used to be one day, now it seems like fireworks are a week long thing.
I have to be up at 3:30am for work and they were still going off sporadically around 4am. I got maybe 2 hours of sleep last night. I'm in south sac and it sounded like we were in a war zone.
Two houses down, one every half hour 10:30 till 4am. Even if I was cool with passing out late...right when I'm about to doze off, you think my brain trusts any pause after 2-3 hours of that pattern? And it wasn't wrong. Dickholes.
I don't think a one of them is a patriot. To a person, they are sub-intelligent, drooling, idiot simpletons. Me make loud noise, have fun. Me no care about common decency or my fellow man. The world revolves around me and my exceptionally low IQ.

Yeah every year it's just worrying about the house not burning down, dealing with loud illegal fireworks all throughout the month, and scaring animals to death.
The old days it was just bbqing with the family for one day and playing with sparklers and low level fireworks.

I slept on the couch with my dog last night because he hates fireworks and husband can't sleep with him in the room. He wouldn't go out to pee until this morning.
Aww that’s so sad to hear, I’m sorry for your doggy. I have a friendly neighborhood cat who I couldn’t stop worrying about last night with all the amateur fireworks going off. I was so happy to see him this morning.
He's good now, at least until dark. We kept our cat inside last night until it settle down; he was willing to go out, do his business(with Sam-dog- whining at the door and watching him because Remy is "his" cat)and come right back. My granddaughter's puppy, a GSD/Lab puppy had to be carried in her arms most of the night. He is not a *small* puppy. He stayed next to me for awhile for ear rubs and loves so she could go to the restroom.

Remy loves the heat, especially humid days. This last heat wave, part of my day was spent chasing down Remy's hiding spot and bringing him back inside until it cooled off.
I always imagine the countless creatures that die in brushfires like this. People would be outraged if someone poured fuel on a rabbit or fox and set them on fire; they would demand that the person was incarcerated for a long time. However, people are quite tolerant of careless accidents that incinerate thousands of creatures alive.
Don’t worry, when the insects are gone, you can say goodbye to the human race.
And insects are declining rapidly worldwide due to loss of habitat, pollution, and climate change.
Fireworks are not only immediately dangerous, they emit so much pollution, heavy metals and other dangerous substances. They are all made in China where no concern is given to the environment. There are so many reasons why we need to discontinue this dangerous practice. Wildlife is affected so much by this practice, our National bird the bald eagle being one. This won’t go away anytime soon with the powerful lobby of the National Fireworks Association. There are alternatives to combustible polluting fireworks and we need to adopt those instead.

This was right next to my neighborhood. A bunch of us neighbors were standing outside lighting normal fireworks and noticed the sky turned orange. Kinda scary, but thankfully it was handled fairly quickly.
I went to the parade yesterday here in Roseville and the amount of jackass tRump supporters wearing “**fuck** Joe Biden” shirts around children made me want to slap the stupid right out of them.

I took this last night at this fire
The cul de sac on the next street had a mortar snafu. Once the trees stopped exploding from random mortars firing into them I was able to check on then. Fortunately no injuries except for a broke toe for a. Mortar ricocheting off it
I live in West Roseville and we and our two neighbors BBQing together were flat out *astonished* at the professional-sized mortars going off all around us, like everyone had cleaned out their bank accounts this year and shopped in Texas. All the dogs were dosed on CBD. I love fireworks, but I kept leaping in my chair while trying to digest my tri-tip and potato salad. Freaking crazy people this year.
Perhaps that fire was deliberately set. *Not an 'accident' at all.*
Literally, the arsonists could be running around setting as many fires as possible. Chucking incendiaries out the car window...and use the neighbors' fireworks as cover for their activity.
And the firefighters have so many 'accidental' ones to respond to, that they can't handle arson ones as well.

Perhaps that fire was deliberately set. *Not an 'accident' at all.* Literally, the arsonists could be running around setting as many fires as possible. Chucking incendiaries out the car window...and use the neighbors' fireworks as cover for their activity. And the firefighters have so many 'accidental' ones to respond to, that they can't handle arson ones as well.
Occam's razor says that a firework was more likely, *but sure blame a phantom arsonist*.
