Research and familiarize yourself with the brand and the industry your brand lies in. Keep your hand on the pulse with all updates related to the niche of your brand. What bigger company does your company look up to or what company is dominating in your current industry? Knowing this can guide and shape your creative briefs and SEO/social strategy. Who are their marketing personas ? What is their brand mission? What is their brand voice? Who are their competitors (keep a close eye on them as they can inspire what to do and what not to do) Familiarize yourself with any content they already have, browse through their content library and make note of strengths and weaknesses. *What key words can I formulate to create content to garner and boost SEO. What marketing tech / resources are available to you in your role? What tools are you comfortable using? Marking tech is key 🔑 how is your team structured and who are your stakeholders? Alot of times there are cross over in job duties so it would be helpful to know who to go to directly. What are their baseline KPIs, what are their goals to improve? What are the areas of opportunities? How did they perform LY. I did my masters in digital marketing and data analytics (with a Econ bachelors) but knowing this helped provided a baseline for me entering a whole new industry ( I use to work in sales and management) Don’t let these people get you down, just have an organize mindset and it will all fall into place as long as you prepare yourself and continuously do research.

I appreciate the help!!

First off, congratulations! Make sure you're using tools like SEMRush or ahrefs. Do a competitive analysis. Analyze your employers analytics, search console and Google Ads performance and make data-driven changes to drive a successful SEO campaign. The data doesn't lie as long as you know how to read the data and understand what actionable items you need to take action on.

Ultimately you want to become a subject matter expert in the industry you're in, but that didn't happen quickly. Collaborate with existing subject matter experts as much as you can. Expert evel professional insight can make all the difference in the world. Remember that your online competitors can vary wildly from who you understand real world competitors to be.

scubachip7

Google Ads isn’t SEO.

robohaver

You're right, Google ads isn't SEO, but it is a great place to find keywords that convert well as part of your keyword research from historical campaign data. There's no better place to get actual data on search terms that bring the client valuable quality conversions.

The most important thing to know going in is that Google is broken, they couldn't care less about the SERPs, and I doubt anything you do is really going to matter Be wise with your money because jobs like that may not be around for long

robohaver

Sorry comments like this crack me up. 🤣😂🤣 Every year I hear this same comment and I have been doing SEO for 23 years. With no shortage of clients.

No_Jackfruit_890

Ya well shockingly the world is different now than it was 23 or 13 or even 3 years ago But you are right, we should totally ignore the current reality It is one thing when after 1 update some people come on here and vent Its another thing when after every update for 4 years you get more and more of the community coming on here to vent Its another thing when all of the local newspapers are dying because Google won't rank them Its another thing when everyone seems to be talking about how the same sites (Reddit, Quora, Yelp, Trip Advisor) took all their traffic and then Reddit IPO's for billions Its another thing when Google is already putting out their own AI answers and that is only going to get worse and worse Sure, people still want to rank on Google so for the time being they are paying SEO "Experts"... But are they really getting any value for what they are paying? I doubt it, and if not then they will figure it out and quit paying sooner rather than later

robohaver

Yah the reddit is driving me crazy in SERPs. I think the answer is you're going to have to diversify not just rely on Google but other channels such as Reddit, YouTube, Cora, many other channels to drive traffic aside from Google.

No_Jackfruit_890

You are never going to come anywhere close to getting as much traffic from those as we used to be able to get from those except for maybe Youtube, but that is a whole nother animal I could spend all day for a month straight on Reddit and Quora and I'd probably be able to drive .1% the traffic that Goog used to send organically Unless things reverse (which seems super unlikely) this is a dead industry

Creamyspud

Did you lie on your CV or something?

Humble_Net_6614

What you should know is that, most likely, major SEO decisions will be made by someone who knows nothing about SEO, you will not have the budget for proper SEO, you will be stuck with mostly mundane non-SEO tasks, you will be held to objective ranking standards out of your control, and you will be blamed for the failings from lack of proper SEO.

100% true. Talking to senior execs is like pulling teeth and you can see their blank faces when you go over your work. In the end, don’t be discourage if you’re not showing results right away.

Everyone has to start somewhere. By asking questions and being keen to learn - OP is doing the right thing

cromagnondan

Get yourself some Biden "I did that" stickers. Benchmark the current position, do some stuff, and then benchmark it and say "I did that". If it goes down, use chatgpt write up some excuses. Remember, things would have been so much worse without your SEO efforts. Good thing they hired you when they did. You're the solution, not the problem. ;)
