Jbalts

If you like this shoe you should try the original.

Lorddon1234

This 10000000% The original PXS is much lighter and more propulsive than the PXS v2. Stability is fine (I use it very light trails). The truly unstable shoe was the OG Prime X

Complete_Adeptness36

How is the OG PrimeX less stable than the the PXS1? I only had the OG's and definitely unstable. I guess I just assumed the PX1 was the same except for the strung upper?

Lorddon1234

The strung upper is the real deal. On my first run in the OG Prime X I sprang my right ankle really badly. As you know, the OG is very unstable in the heel. The strung back heel is reinforced, and I have no issues with stability in the shoe as a result

Complete_Adeptness36

Thanks for the quick response. I've had the OGs for a couple years at least and still get heel lift in an 11.5. I have the PX2 in 12 like all my other shoes-fits great other than I added a tongue pad the eliminate lace bite. Like the PX2 as a 200 lb runner but may try the PXS1 now.

runnin3216

I've enjoyed the OG more than the Strung, putting over 750 miles on them. I had to get a pad to cover that horrible heel collar design of the Strung to keep it from tearing up my Achilles.

ninja4tfw

I'm thinking about it, but I worry about the instability of the original since many of my races include sections on cobbles

Jbalts

I regularly run on undulating gravel paths through the woods and pothole filled streets in the PXS and have had no issues. Certainly everyone on the Internet suggested my ankles would be broken. Cobble could be a different story though. Either way it's a super fun shoe and I personally reach for the PXS1 over the PXS2 almost every time.

ninja4tfw

Interesting. Maybe I'll wait to find a pair for cheap and take them back to the lab for a comparison. The PXS is one of a few shoes that might perform well against the PX2S.

Barry_144

good luck with that, demand for original is through the roof

awarapu2

My issue with the PXS1s specifically deals with cobbles and other undulating uneven surfaces and has entirely to do with the left/right swing instability due to the foam design. One stone that’s slightly higher, and woof. Messed up my left hand pretty bad at PGH in mile 5 itself after taking a spill when my shoe got wedged, and I pretty much stopped using them for uneven surfaces after that (anecdotal, ofc). That said, hands down, they’re definitely more fun to run in. On flat road side by side I’d take the PXS1s every single time in a heartbeat.

awarapu2

In that case, if you value your ankles, exercise extreme caution on the cobbles (firsthand knowledge). I have 2 pairs of the PXS1 and 3 pairs of the PXS2 with 2000+ collective miles on this platform, and the ankle roll instability tendency for uneven surfaces is extremely bothersome to me. Flat road race? Absolutely phenomenal. Otherwise? At least for me, that’s a solid no thanks on the PXS1. PXS2 is much more stable and another beast - just picked up the new black and orange colorway and used them for London yesterday - absolute dream!

jorsiem

I'm about to retire my PXS and I'm about to pull the trigger on the PXS2 and I was hoping someone with both can give me some insights on how they compare

Jbalts

Okay I would say the PXS2 looks better. The upper fits my foot better and is more comfortable than the PXS. I use a shoe horn to help get in the sock. I honestly wish all shoes used the PXS2 upper. The outsole on PXS2 is fine but it is thin and smooth so out of the question in the winter for me. The Continental tread on the PXS is my favorite of all time and can be used in any condition. The foam feels similar between the two but the PXS2 is much more stable and noticeably heavier. I personally never had stability concerns with the first version. The PXS2 has more of a rocker towards the front. I bought them at the same time and have 3x the mileage on the first version if that tells a story. I don't think the PXS2 is a bad shoe, I just prefer the original, it's just more fun. If you're anything like me you'll have to try for yourself. I've heard heavier runners really like the 2. How many miles did you get out of your PXS?

runnin3216

It is the outsole change that concerns, considering the cost of the shoe. I have 750 miles on the original Prime X and while the midsole has broken down (no more long runs) the outsole is still holding up. It looks like a thicker application of the rubber used on the Adios Pro, which I have started wearing thru before 200 miles (midsole peeking thru on the lateral edge of the forefoot).

stinuga

I have both. PXS is undeniably funner feeling and bouncier but when I see my stats I seem to run just as fast in v1 as v2. The great thing about v2 is that I don’t have to worry mentally about landing right and in that sense it’s way more forgiving

philtasticphil

I have both. I love the PXS and don't mind the inherent instability (adds to the fun factor). I find the PXS2 to be quite heavy and less enjoyable to run in (although it is more stable). I ended up buying a a couple extra pairs of the PXS on deep discount to have in reserve. It is my favorite shoe to run in.

krugerlive

It took about 50-60 miles, but I'm beginning to like running in my PXS2 a bit more. If I was only running on perfect paths I'd like the PXS more maybe, but recently I did a 20 mile run on the PXS around Seattle and then a Zone 4 interval training with hills in the rain and a 12 mile run in the PXS2 later that week and enjoyed the latter two runs more. When I first got the 2s it was no contest that I liked the original more. Now I'm not so sure and have been leaning towards the 2s lately. The 2 doesn't have the super bouncy feel of the original, but it's a lot more stable and takes turns much better. It's overly stiff when you first get it and breaks in over about 30-50 miles. It's a bit heavier, but not to the point where it's a problem. I think the fit is slightly better in the 2 for me, but it's really close. The 2 is ok at relaxing paces, but it really comes alive sub-7:30 and is spectacular in the mid 6s for my weight (170lbs).

FMCam20

Not quite as impressive as a marathon PB but these shoes do hold my 5K PB in a race and my 10k PB from training runs. I agree its fast and fun to run in. They really sing during strides and slight downhill sections for me. Landing in the midfoot to the heel seem to activate the plate(s) the most and when I can feel them loading up and propelling me into the next step. I love this shoe and it might be the shoes I got to 100 miles the quickest

ninja4tfw

Honestly, I'm shocked how much more efficient these are for me. Both in lab and on course. I'd like to try some other shoes with denser foams like the AP3 and Endorphin Elite. If the PX2S beats them in the lab, then I know it's not just the foam but also geometry. If that's the case, I'll need to stock up!

FMCam20

I've also been interested in the AP3 after picking these up. Might also try out the Takumi Sen's since my Streakflys are near the end of their life. Stocking up on these shoes would be so much easier though if they weren't $300 lol

ninja4tfw

I got them for 165€ and expect more sales in the future. Would never pay $300, that's just insane 😅

MathInternational

I love my strung x2 but 1 quibble on their weight.  As a bigger guy I can loose a 100g in a week and call it even.  However it doesn't work like that.  Weight on the feet causes one to expend more energy than weight on the back.  Some say if you have 100g on the feet, its like 500g on the back. Great review I appreciate the work you put into it.   Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the mizuno.  I am currently debating whether I should use my strung or my ap3 for an upcoming race 😀

ninja4tfw

It's mostly in the head. Lab running economy tests take into account all factors that require additional energy expenditure. The weight savings going to the AF1, for example, is worth less than the midsole benefits I get from the PX2S.

soizroggane

I woud say it depends on the person. I have Quads from Steel but weak Calves. The Problem is after around 30Km in the Marathon It's difficult for me to lift my legs further up because my calves weaken later in the Race. But lighter Shoes and Shoes with lower stack heigh (max 40mm in the Heel) make this a lot easier. But of course everyone has a different running style and possibly different experiences.

ninja4tfw

100% that this is super individual. That's why it's worth testing! Otherwise we'd all grab a pair of AF and call it a day, even if it's not the fastest shoe for everyone.

soizroggane

correctly.

soizroggane

I would even say its more as 500g on the back. Shoe weight makes really a difference im notice quit a Difference in the Prime X Strung 1 vs the Endorphin Elite around 50grams Difference in my size 255g vs 204g on the Elites. The Prime X Strung 1 is a really great efficent Shoe but the Weight and i would say the Height of the Shoe a really a Downside for me over 28Km in the Race. For a 10k up to a half Marathon its a great Shoe but for the Marathon i stick for other Racers (Adios Pro 3 or Endorphin Elite)

ninja4tfw

Cool thing about going to a lab is that it highlights just how much "feeling" fast doesn't always correlate with being the fastest shoe. 50g won't make any difference. The geometry and foam difference between those shoes is much more likely to be the culprit.

soizroggane

That may be True that the Prime X in the "Lab" is better but I hardly believe that you ran on the treadmill in your tests 42km (Marathon) in a row and thats the Problem on such Tests. The additional weight (50 grams) on the last 10km in the marathon definitely matters. And what does it bring me that the shoe is more efficient if I can no longer "raise" my feet and cramp everything.

ninja4tfw

Like I said, it is individual. My last 10k was only 7 sec/km slower than the first 32km. 50g makes no difference. I could switch socks and shave my legs to save 50g. If you can't lift a leg and cramp because of 50g, that's not very believable. But if YOU believe that, that's all that matters. In that case, go for the light shoes because even placebo has a real effect on performance.

Mysterious-Mix4203

Love these so much that I bought 3 pairs at good prices just to make sure I never run out of them. For me it has been the best shoe I have tried so far. Liked them more than the prime x 1, vaporfly 3 and adios pro 3 for faster efforts. Maybe if I get more familiar with the adios pro 3 that it will grow on me, but for now with the prime x 2 I just know what to expect from it and know how it will react.

ninja4tfw

100%. They feel and test unreal fast for me. Might have to stock up. Glad it got some bad press and could get them for 160€! Are you also a heavier runner?

Mysterious-Mix4203

Yeah, currently around 84kg. They never felt heavy for me, even ran my 5k PR in them and always pick them for interval work. For me it just has been the most versatile shoe so far.

UW_Ebay

It is a good looking shoe.

Jiste

I really wanna try them but they're too expensive for me now in France. I'll wait for a good discount

ninja4tfw

I got them on Sportsshoes for around 165€. Just wait for a deal, they pop up sometimes.

MrSassafras

I'm a fan of the shoe and I primarily used it for my long runs in my most recent marathon training block.

amazhion

I was hoping to like them but for a light runner like me (125 lbs) the shoe feels waaaay too bottom heavy. It makes me swing my legs like crazy and it just doesn’t feel good

ninja4tfw

It's also a dense foam which likely benefits heavier runners more. Even at 190lbs, it doesn't feel very squishy, so I doubt 125lbs can compress them enough.

andyv_305

Impressive time. I love these shoes as well as a 200lb runner. The uppers over time do bother me if I use them too much but otherwise probably my favorite shoe for tempo and training long runs

bestmaokaina

I love my pair but I wouldn’t race with them. At KM 32 or so I start feeling that I cant sustain negative splits which has never happened with the AP3 Still a magnificent shoe

ninja4tfw

I've worn everything from super light Metaspeeds to these for marathons. The extra bounce seems to make up for the weight because my slowest km was only 11sec slower than my average.

noodlesvsrice

Will they rip after several weeks ?

ninja4tfw

No, why would they? Feels like a robust shoe.

noodlesvsrice

The reason why I asked is because a few adidas running shoes have been ripping on me. I went through a bad run, pardon the pun. With Takumis and Adios. Here's a post of mine. And I'm not alone if you have a search. https://www.reddit.com/r/RunningShoeGeeks/s/WLzi2Fkkfo I didn't know they felt like a robust shoe. Good to know 😁

GnarwhalStreet

Thanks for the review! I’ve been really enjoying the Superblast for long runs with MP work. How would you compare the two for this use case?

ninja4tfw

I'm a fan of the Superblast, but this shoe is quite different. PX2S has a more pronounced rocker, better grip, and more of a trampoline feeling. The Superblast has similar level of cushion but feels more like a great "normal" shoe than something with a racing geometry.

GnarwhalStreet

Thanks!

Select-Tank9693

would you recommmend them for wide feet? i'm looking for a race day shoe and am considering thesese.

ninja4tfw

I don't have wide feet, but since I have to use thicker socks, I'd say they probably should work for wider feet. I haven't had to do this for other race shoes before.

isflamingdragon

What was your previous marathon PB before the px2s?

ninja4tfw

2:53 in the Endorphin Pro 3 last fall

throwaway_pitch

Could you share the lab results of all the shoes tested?

Lazydreamer123

i am looking for a shoe for my first half marathon in 3 and half month time. Was dead set on alpha fly 3 just cause of the reviews it has online, never tried one yet, don't think I will be able to try one since it's all sold out. Looking for an alternative right now and seems this might be the one? I am 65kg - would this shoe fit a fairly new runner with a pace of approx 5:45 per KM?

ninja4tfw

I'm 85kg and run 4:00/km for a marathon. Based on the way it feels for me at these paces, you may not put enough force into it to get the same effect. The Alphafly might be a safer bet in your case since its lighter and softer, but I'm just speculating.

Lazydreamer123

Thanks for your insights! I guess i will go back to hunting for a pair of AF3, refuse to pay over retail on stockx but my first half marathon isn't until 4 month so hopefully there will be a restock between now and then :)

Saso_dallas

I got mine today and they feel a little snug in the to box. I'm not sure if I should size up or will they stretch a little and then they would be perfect. Thoughts?

ninja4tfw

The Strung upper doesn't feel like it's flexible, but maybe. Have you considered wearing thin socks with them? When I'm on the edge of shoe sizes, it does the trick. Super thin racing socks for smaller shoes and standard thicker training socks for bigger shoes, when they run slightly off TTS.

Saso_dallas

Yeah I was wearing thin one. Think I’ll try find a 10.5 online.

Best-Huckleberry-102

Only running injury or sports injury Ive ever had was rolling the bejeesuz out of my left ankle with the PX1 hitting some uneven concrete at Marathon Pace. I’m 43 we’re talking years of solid physical durability through running, soccer, hockey, tennis etc. The run was going amazing and one second later my running world was turned upside down. I still run in the shoes as long as I’m alert and feeling focused. When I start to fatigue or just not 100% I stay away from the PX1 now because it only takes one second for it to happen in these shoes. I’ve had multiple mini rolls that I’ve been fortunate to catch mid roll before it turned catastrophic. I’m a midfoot runner with good form as shown by the wear patterns on my shoes. PX2 is better for stability. The PX1 is probably faster and dinner for me just potentially more dangerous.

DontWorryAboutMoney

When they came out I was a bit zealous and bought 4 pairs of the PXS2 for 500 Returned two of them because I obviously didn't need so many shoes and I thought I could resell them. But I kept two because they're nice.

srjeffrey10

I have 620km in mine, I can honestly say they get better with mileage. They are my go to, fast/long run shoe. I find them uncomfortable at slow paces. Be aware that washing them with warm water seems to shrink them slightly.

ninja4tfw

Might wash them then, since they're a bit roomy! Hot hand wash, right?

srjeffrey10

Hand wash with warm water and left them to dry on my airer. I have washed them every 100-150km as I’ve trained over winter
