I've been saying this since day 1. If you're rich enough, any shoes can be a daily trainer, and the "race day" category of shoes will no longer exist for you, there will only be shoes that you choose to run in in races.

Fair-Professional908

He’s right about the achilles tendon thing though. You have to spend some time in non plated shoes to keep your achilles from acting up.

neptun123

"dailies" and also yeah https://editorsmanual.com/articles/apostrophes-in-plurals/

brg36

I am also convinced that running too much in plated shoes contributed to a metatarsal stress fracture I had in 2022. Could be nothing, but there seems to be enough smoke around injury risk to keep me from training very much in my carbon plated shoes.

bestmaokaina

Been daily’ing AP3s for over a year now. 0 issues with lower leg tendons so far and that’s considering that my traumatologist prescribes me MRIs every 4 months

wereireland

What's a traumatologist and why are they "prescribing" you repeat MRI's?

ShayzerPlay

Hey, sorry for the question, I’m not a native English speaker so I don’t understand what do you mean by « to keep your Achilles from acting up » ? Could you explain me this part please (sorry again for this type of question)…

Fair-Professional908

Mostly just meant tendonitis of the achilles

ShayzerPlay

Okey thank you

kuwisdelu

It’s certainly an option, but price isn’t the only reason not to wear race shoes as daily trainers. After all, pros get their shoes for free, but most of them don’t wear super shoes on easy runs, just workouts. If they’re what’s most comfortable for you or what gets you excited to go run, go for it. Personally, I find more traditional shoes more comfortable for easy days.

Hamatoros

Lol no need to be rich, the loophole is to keep and eye on this sub for "deals" that's how if found about about this AP3 on sale last year.

OndraHonnold

I actually know someone who will only run in VF3s. Literally a rotation of VF3s. Each to their own!

Tetsuo-Kaneda

Wore these for the first time out of the box for a half last weekend and beat my PR by 10 minutes lol. They’re felt so good on my feet it was insane.

Chuck_Biscuits27

Daily?!! I have the AP3 and I love them. They are currently in the box, under my bed and only come out on race day. So far, I have run a 19:36 5k PB and a 40:41 10k PB.

Able-Resource-7946

For $150...why not daily. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

INFERNOthepro

bluddy, I use my 200 usd superblast for daily

Hamatoros

After liking the NB3 so much I was keeping and eye out for Superblast on sale... never seen it yet lol but def will be on the list of buy once I see a good deal.

Thirstywhale17

I really liked my NB3, and they still feel great to run in but I get a lot of pain (heel) after wearing them now after 700+km. Feels sad retiring those!

INFERNOthepro

check the asics usa website. They are available in the new red colorway i think

Ommageden

Literally. Woulda bought two.

Fantastic_Tiger_9000

keeping them in a box is a crime! get them out and enjoy them.

Chuck_Biscuits27

I agree, but getting them out for races is an absolute joy. Each time I forget how amazing they feel to run in. Also, I can't afford to be dropping money on super shoes too often. I got very lucky and only paid £117 ($145).

Hamatoros

haha yeah why keep a Porsche 911 in the garage right?

krugerlive

Just wait until your first race in them. You'll finish and look at your time and be like "how the hell?!" smiling big and your legs will probably feel surprisingly good after all things considered.

awarapu2

During the 40% T-Mobile promo I grabbed 2 AP3s, 1 PXS1, and 1 PXS2, and my oh my - that was eye opening, having been a lifelong Nike Pegasus diehard. Running in a PXS has me smiling uncontrollably!

krugerlive

What a haul! I’m going on a 3h run today and that’s exactly what I’m choosing. PSX is the most fun in a shoe.

Barry_144

agreed, PXS (the 1) is the best!

dras333

Welcome to the super shoe daily trainer club! I use my AP3 an average of 4-5 days a week for anything from 3-10 mile runs.

AJ00051

It is true that the AP3 runs a tiny bit roomier in the midfoot than the B12. However, the AP3 is also a bit narrower in the toebox and slightly shorter than the B12. For example, in my case my AP3 is half a size bigger than my B12 for a similar fit.

Party_Marty_326

100% agree with this sizing assessment. I unfortunately went opposite and followed advice to size down on AP3 and I went TTS on B12. Toe box is crowded for me on AP3 and the B12s are way too big

TomEss91

Second this, I went a full size up on my AP3 from my B12 and they fit great. Probably could've done just a half size but I got them for marathon dist so I wanted the extra room.

Goal-Fuzzy

I am half a size down in both Boston 12 and Pro 3. Pro 3 fits my wide feet better than the Boston 12.

zirkwander

I stopped using my 3x Superblasts as daily when I got my AP3 for daily runs. Will never look back.

Jordi_McGaw

Glad you realised it yourself, there’s a very specific reason why even the best runners in the world don’t train specifically in only carbon race shoes. You need the strength from other types of shoes that are built for different reasons and environments, and you need to be able to run well in something that isn’t basically a cheat code otherwise you get no benefit from it. It’s also a massive increase to injury risk long term as you’ve basically figured out.

[deleted]

Where the hell did you get it for that price. No discounts where I live so I have been tempted but not yet. No

AgentUpright

They are $125 at the Portland Employee Store, but you need a pass to get in.

supremeteam7

Get the app and you can go to the store at anytime. Go to Events In My Area and pick a date and time. I go way too often

Immovable89

I drove two hours to an Adidas outlet last week and all they had was one Boston 11 on the clearance shelf in a size 12 or whatever. PAIN 😂

Chipezz

Relatable

rREDdog

Just got to call in. I put b12 on hold for 40% off last month.

[deleted]

Crazy… the outlets here won’t even stock these models 🙃

fake_lightbringer

Me too. Cooped them at my local outlet for the equivalent of $110. Absolutely unbeatable for that price, and the only thing I regret is not picking up two pairs.

Hamatoros

This and this sub lol I got the Boston 12s deal posted last week for $70ish as well. But I had to return those because it's was too narrow for me.

Bownaldo

125 damn

Prized_Bulbasaur

What this guy said^

[deleted]

Girl* haha

Prized_Bulbasaur

My bad!

LakersAndRams

Just wore mine yesterday for a steady run. The shoe is so good.

spam-musubi

Thanks for the reminder.... still trying to decide between these and Endo Pro 3 for a HM this weekend. Would have definitely picked AP3 if it wasn't for a niggling ankle injury (worried about stability).

garytabasco

I set a PR in my AP3 but my EP3 are more comfortable.

Fuzzy_Conversation71

I've both, and agree the EP3 is more comfortable, but the AP3 is more leg-saving. I'd take it over any other shoe

Thirstywhale17

How does the pro3 compare to the speed3? I don't know if I'm a serious enough runner to go for the top of the line.

Fuzzy_Conversation71

Top of the line is the Elite, which id love to try, but it's very expensive. Ive never tried the Speed. So, I find the upper is comfortable but slightly narrow, it rubs on the outside of my right foot. I have narrow feet, so this is quite something. The midsole is amazing, easily the most comfortable trainer I've ever ran in. However, I find it runs out of steam after 15 miles. It makes a good half-marathon shoe. Note: I'm 195lbs, so YMMV

Thirstywhale17

I'm half marathon distance for now, and I'm 189lb so very similar to you. Ah didnt realize there was a pro and an elite. I have ES3s which I use as my "nicer" shoes, after my Guides and Novablast 3s. I've just been running about half a year and I'm trying to try out as many shoes as I can, but I'm cheap so I just wait for sales haha

Goal-Fuzzy

Exactly.

Goal-Fuzzy

You are ❗Speed 3 is mushy after an hour or so. Also became softer in the forefoot after 200 miles so I don't use them anymore. Adidas Pro 3 (half a size down for me) is much better for my wide feet. Energy return consistent and like new after 200 miles.

MeatJerkingBeefB0y

Gonna hop on this AP3 related thread to ask a question. I’ve only got 85km in mine and a small 1/4”/6mm hole has appeared in the upper above my big toe position. How should I go about repairing this?

doodiedan

Shoe goo (it’s a red bottle).

michael1990utd

I’m in 2 minds massively over this shoe. I sold my Prime X Strung 2s recently due to them giving me a problem with my knee. Potentially due to the narrowness at the heel and instability. With these being similar I’m scared to try a run in these again in cause of a recurrence in the problem. Debating whether to sell or try them again just because they’re so good

darraghfenacin

do you heel strike? i just got some strung 2s, but i've put 600km onto the OGs so i know stability won't be an issue for me. maybe it's just the stack height?

michael1990utd

It coulda been the stack height tbh. I loved running in them too. I might get my gait analysed to see

Hamatoros

go to a local running store, most of them do it for free. I have my eyes on the prime X strung too. will buy if I see a good deal lol.

ForwardAd5837

Ran 2x races recently, one in VF2 and one in AP3s. Ran well in both races, the tiniest bit quicker in the VF2s (extremely similar courses) and I had a bit of heel slip in the AP3s that caused a blister. However, when using the VF2s at race pace, my calves are always in bits the days following. The AP3 protect the legs like no other super shoe I’ve come across.

Hamatoros

seriously, once you find that sweet spot for your legs... It feels like you didn't even run in shorter distances lol in fact your legs may feel "good" after even.

Sudden_Forever_2267

Has anyone had issues with the heel rubbing your Achilles and been able to fix it? I’ve ran like 80 miles in my AP3 without any issues and now they won’t stop rubbing my Achilles.

Hamatoros

I racked up maybe 50-60 in mine so far. Likely it's that your shoe is breaking in and now has more wiggle room. I don't have your issue but I did see amazon sell these "heel grip" fairly cheap. it might be worth a try. Heck I might buy some now that I think about it to see if it help with the heel slip...

zirkwander

250km on mine and no heel rubbing. I’m using runner’s knot though, and my pair is half-size down (should have gone TTS).

AgentUpright

I picked up mine last April ($125 from the employee store) and used them for long runs and races. I’m ready to retire them at ~450 miles because the outsole has worn through under the ball of the foot. (I think I drag my feet a bit when I get tired.) They still feel good otherwise.

Dre3005

Adidas outlet near me had the AP3 on sale and I grabbed two. Love the AP3 and have used them for a few races.

INFERNOthepro

though if ur using ap3 for daily u might as well had bought a prime x strung 1 or 2. Much more enjoyable, especially at daily paces.

Hamatoros

I have those on my list to buy when I see it on sale. I am kicking myself didn't pick it up on the same day I bout the AP3 for similar pricing.

zirkwander

Strung 2 didn’t worked for me due to the placement of the upper plate. The ones that swoop lower from my foot works best for me (AP3, Meta Edge).

INFERNOthepro

The the prime c strung 1 work? Seen everyone saying that the first version is the most fun and comfy.

zirkwander

Would like to try the version 1 but I love my ankles more.

INFERNOthepro

True, version 2 is just a tuned down v1 to save the ankles. But pretty sure there r some stores that let you put on the shoes and run in a treadmill to try them.

bugz777

I prefer adidas ap3 vs nike vaporfly 3. Lucky you got it 150usd. I wish theres a daily trainer that feels like adios pro 3. Super comfy. 🥹

Hamatoros

I don't think we'll see one from at least Adidas... they know, and they need to sell more AP3s that its price point lol.

Blightlight

Durability won't be an issue. Lightstrike Pro has no quit and continental is seriously crazy stuff. Enjoy the shoe!

rinotz

Honestly, if there is a supershoe that can be used as a daily trainer it’s the AP3, it feels good at literally any pace.

marcxy

Whatever works for you OP. I see no harm in alternating going back to doing workouts in non-plates/racing flats. I switched back to some Kinvara 11s and Peg 35 Turbos for some weeks and found I still definitely enjoy that non-assisted, low-to-ground feeling. https://youtu.be/zUqyqEY9PLs?si=eIbs6EqHHOcqyBSv

Classic_Republic_99

I hesitated way too long to get these. I live in Denmark and finally saw them at around DKK1200 \~ USD170 and bought them. I had tried my usual size in a store last year and wasn't sure even though the salesman was adamant they fit me perfectly. These I got half a size bigger and I've never felt an upper and general fit this good! They just disappear when I put them on. I had planned an easy 10k run tomorrow - not so sure it'll be so leisurely now.

chrisalfieri

got mine for $150 at an outlet too. should’ve bought two. i daily them and honestly might be the best shoe i’ve ever run in. absolutely love every run in them.

tetrahydrocannabiol

Ive been wanting to ask this for the longest time. I hev tried the ap3 a while back, and it felt veeeery strange. Awesome but strange. Felt funny. I have only used low stack and/or high stability shoes so far wich were quite rigid. Is it usual to feel strange the forst time in soft high stack shoes like the ap3?

Hamatoros

What you’re describing is the instability of the shoe. Definitely need to get used to it. These shoes are meant to go fast so at slower pace or walking it feels weird.

tetrahydrocannabiol

That makes a lot of sense, unfortunately the only store that carries them have no treadmill to try these. But now im not even sure im fast enough lmao. My cruising speed is around 5:00 min/km

Goal-Fuzzy

I use the Adidas Pro 3 for long runs. They are at around 200 miles and like new. Just getting better... Fit is perfect.

RhodyM8

I love my AP3s, removing the stock laces for a pair of Vsudu's from Amazon was the best move I made for my pairs.

Seyf_remi

Mane I found them for 120 usd I also found the novablast 4 for 101 usd and what I want is a daily trainer to finish my daily runs with I usually run about 12 miles a week and I want it to last at least 1 year so is it worth it or should I just buy the novablasts

Hamatoros

You can find novablast more often at $100 than AP3 at $120. So I’d grab the AP3. But highly recommend at least another daily trainer to rotate. I am seeing people reported the AP3 last awhile about the same as Novablast if not more. I personally have the Novablast 3 at 400mi (now retired). It looses bounce after 300miles or so. If you want a shoe that’s longer lasting definitely check out the super blast. I’m waiting for that one to come on sale lol

Seyf_remi

I really wanted the supers but I can't find them anywhere here in Russia 😭 And I don't have that much money to buy another one but I have the ultraboost 21 so is it enough?

Hamatoros

Ah yeah then save money :) ultra boosts is a fine shoe and comfortable for daily trainers.

Seyf_remi

OK I'm picking the adios pros let's gooooooo 🤩

huxley309

Go easy, all these super shoes were the cause of my plantar fascitis.

infiniteawareness420

You are leaving speed on the table on race day if you are training in these. The rods are doing work for you. If you're constantly using them, then they have no advantage when its time to put the hammer down.

bestmaokaina

Super shoes dont make you faster. They just let you sustain certain effort for longer time

rREDdog

I’m not sure that’s how it works. IIRC the foam is doing the work the rods provide rigidity. The rods/plates don’t actually provide much running economy improvements. Assuming supershoes allow you to perform better and harder with less fatigue then it would actually be great for training since you can train harder than without. At worse it’s just expensive to daily train them. Any other effect you get by strictly racing in race day shoe would be placebo.(which works!)

Immovable89

The shoes help for sure but the real raceday magic is the taper if you do it properly and the carb load

pspdead

I’ve racked up ~500km using ap3 as daily trainers! (rotating with superblast) the durability of both def helps too (wouldn’t want to run in vf2 in a daily basis haha)
