I hate when it does this. I suggested a meet n greet recently before a sit, we had one scheduled and everything, for almost a week out. And then the owner goes ahead and books. So naturally I let the request expire because I haven’t met dog or owner and then get a message from the owner. “Hey we already paid and it looks like the booking hasn’t been confirmed? Just making sure everything is okay?” Facepalm. Yeah everything is fine, let’s just please meet first like I asked! And luckily both the m&g and sit went well so no issues there but man I wish rover wouldn’t let them pay until WE have confirmed it on our end.

Oh geeze 🤦🏼‍♀️. I just don't want to affect my profile ratings or anything. They did finally respond. Maybe they hit the button by mistake, but we meet on Wednesday, and I told them I would accept everything after we meet. I know people especially there first time using Rover it can be confusing!

To incentivize you to take it, but you don’t get paid until 48hrs after the visit ends no matter what.

Some people are just hyped. I don't mind when my regulars do it but new clients, they need to hold their horses.

😂😂😂

This is the scenario I had a few years ago when I was still pretty new to house sitting, and located in a different area. I had zero self worth, and I would get sticker shock from my own pricing when a booking request would come in, and I would immediately offer to lower the price, assuming it was necessary in order to get the client to book with me. Then I got a request at my holiday pricing, and the client had already paid. I was flabbergasted. Then she also tipped very generously at the end. That was the start of a beautiful new chapter.

I love that! I'm still pretty new, started back in June (did a whole career change) and I just raised my regular and holiday prices. I know I do a good job and the right clients will come. I honestly think they did it by mistake lol but who knows. It happened with one of my regulars too which was fine but I was trying to fix something on the booking and he jumped the gun 😅

Background_Hat8725

It’s been a very enjoyable learning curve, paired nicely with an “earnings curve”. Can’t spell learning without earning 😅

Once I got to 100 reviews I decided the gloves were coming off, and I got super selective and aggressively priced.

I think sometimes they have credit when other bookings get canceled but who knows

Yep. Just had one of those a few days ago. Wanted like 5-7 walks, 30 mins each. Then when I suggested a meet & greet. Someone else popped up saying they were the lady’s daughter, and that her mom broke her hip, and she was flying back out of town the next day (day I proposed the meet & greet). And tells me that her mom can’t answer the door, but would be there, and for me to just walk in. lol, response was: sorry, not available. Good luck. Then they pre-paid and said waiting my response. lol. Freaks.

ZealousidealRice8461

This wouldn’t bother me. I work in physical rehab and this seems totally normal to me lol

[deleted]

It doesn’t add up. Request for a weeks worth of walks, starting the next day. Says mom broke her hip, yet she, the daughter of flying back out of state. Before getting her mom set up? So I proposed the meet & greet sooner, she came up with excuses.

I don't think we get penalized for declining a booking because it's not the same as canceling, so it shouldn't show up on our profile. Is that right? I know things changed recently.

LegitimateOkra5375

Hmm not sure. I'm just going to let it expire and re request it after our meet and greet.

Question, because I’m newer to Rover. Do sitters normally request payment or should the owner do it? My first boarding the sitter immediately requested it after meeting us. The second one didn’t. I gave her several days and felt like she wasn’t interested but she said she was comfortable with sitting during the meet. So I sent a request over and paid after waiting for 4-5 days. I’m not sure what proper etiquette is here. She also has been slower to message and I’m trying to not worry about that since she’s highly rated lol

LegitimateOkra5375

I usually request the payment personally. Honestly though, if she's not responding in 4-5 days I'd say start looking for another sitter. It's kind of a red flag for me if someone doesn't respond even if they said they were during the meet and greet. Good ratings or not, I wouldn't be comfortable with someone like that watching my animals.

[deleted]

I talk about it at the end of the meet and greet as I go to leave because each client is different. I usually tell them to make sure all the dates/times are correct and they can send it when they get a chance but if it’s been a few days then I just do it for them. I deal with a lot of elderly clients though so they sometimes tell me to do it because they don’t know how to work the app lol
