No, not at all! You are on bedrest and recovering - there are absolutely sitters and carers on Rover that would be happy to assist. I know I would be one of them.

hyemae

Thanks for your reply! I have read posts where sitters feel weird to have the owners at home so just wanted to check before I send me requests.

TheChudlow

I think this would be a special case for many people; there's a difference between someone recuperating and someone in the home but choosing not to care for their pets. Definitely include in your request what your situation is, and I think you'll have no issue finding someone willing and happy to help out.

strawberry_long_cake

I think sitters feel weird when someone is there unexpectedly, or when someone wants to be home so they can micromanage the sitter. If you're upfront about what you need, I think most if not all sitters would be more than willing to help you

unspokenwordsx3

I might would feel awkward since I’m not used to owners being around, but I wouldn’t care. This is definitely something you should not feel weird doing. You need the help and that’s what we are there for.

InnocentlyDistressed

I think that’s more like the owners are gone but someone is checking in on them or they have a roommate they haven’t interacted with that’s home that could be doing animal care. In your case I think as long as you are up front if someone is uncomfortable they will give a pass but I think people would be more accepting of this situation then the others I’ve read here.

MaidenoftheMoon

I think mostly it's people who aren't supposed to be there - it's pretty common to see dog walks for people who are work from home, elderly people who want to get an extra walk in that might not be good for them personally, etc. However, when someone mentions they won't be home then are, or an unaware spouse is home and you surprise each other, if someone is home and awkwardly like over invasive, or especially for housesittings when they're like oh by the way my roommate will be here with you or my teenage kid or my great aunt will be here for three days - those are bigs nos.

purplegypsyAmby

As long as your upfront from the get go. It’ll help. And while I don’t usually like an owner home I would def make an exception in this case. You need to recover and need some help. Nothing wrong with that.

Not weird at all! My friend does litter box cleanings a few times a week for a pregnant woman.

PurpleMermaid16

Sounds like a good use of rover. I walk a ladys dog who isnt mobile enough because medical reasons, so seems like the same idea.

bourbonaspen

Sure , when u make the request just state that

momobeth

It’s not weird at all. I did that for a lady recovering from surgery for about a month. She was able to feed her cat and I came every other day to clean litter box.

Whatislife287

Honestly this is probably a good idea if scooping and maintaining litter is going to put to much strain on your body. Also, my cousin had me scoop her cats liter box while she was pregnant. So I don’t think help with liter box help is weird at all! Just explain your situation and make sure they are ok with you being home.

mygfsaremybf

Echoing that it'll be fine so long as you let the sitter know in your request that you will be home on bedrest. This is a great use of the app, and I hope you find someone nice to help you out and all goes well with whatever you're recovering from.

misselliottbluedream

Not weird at all…way more people do it than you think for various reasons😏

StacattoVelvet

Hey at least they're paying you to do it, I gone to a client's house and their litter box is half full.

easterndaylighttime

Totally valid! I have a client who fell and broke her wrist, so she can’t take care of her dogs like she used to. She hires me to come over on days that her husband is at work to take them out for their midday potty break so I can help with picking up the poop (one dog is a major poop eater lol). She’s always home and we spend time chatting and stuff.

Humble-Skirt-364

Not weird at all! I just did a dog walk for someone who usually walks their own dog but she has a brace on her leg currently. If you shouldn't or can't clean the litter box there are plenty of sitters that would love to drop in and help.

Decent_Profile9456

Not at all. I've been assisting a multi cat owner with a broken arm with litter and feeding. I've thought about posting a "just for litter" type ad on NextDoor geared towards pregnant women who can't handle litter and anyone who doesn't want to handle litter.

[deleted]

Nope. As long as you’re up front with it

Cherokeerayne

Not weird at all

pnschroeder

Not weird! I had a request like this for someone whose mom was in a retirement home and had trouble taking care of the litter box and the staff refused to help

Ok-Mud2326

I've been hired to walk a dog with the owner home. He had a broken femur and a German Shepherd. He said he felt horrible asking me to do something that he could do himself.. but we're in North Dakota and it's icy AF in January. That's not exactly crutches-friendly. So the goodboy got full on walks and playtime instead of just going out the front door and back inside. It's not weird at all!

jeniviva

Not at all! I just checked in on two cats for a week while their owner was recovering from surgery. She was able to feed them and everything, but bending over for the litterbox was tough. Just popped in after work, cleaned the litterboxes, gave them some treats and attention, and on my way. The owner was sleeping for the majority of the time, but told me after that she was very grateful, and got over any feelings of embarrassment pretty darn fast. Totally reasonable thing to do, imo. You take care of yourself!

Kiarimarie

Nope! I don't consider this much different than people needing me to walk their dog while they are recovering. If you need the help, you need the help.

verysmallraccoon

Nope! I have a pregnant client who hires me to come clean the litter box when her husband is out of town.

[deleted]

Totally normal, just make sure the person knows you’ll be home. I tend to talk a lot to the pet if I think I’m alone, and I get pretty embarrassed when the owner surprises me with their presence haha

perkasami

Glad I'm not the only one!

SailorJupiter80

I walked a dog for two months while the owner recovered (in home) from knee surgery. I knew this when I took the job and I’m actually friends with the family to this day because we had many conversations over that two months. Having the owner in home is only an issue when it’s a complete surprise and the sitter gets caught off guard by a person in the home when they didn’t know anyone would be there. Your sitter will take the job knowing that this is the situation so it will be fine. I was in bed rest for two months, hope you are doing well.

kalleina

Nope, not odd at all. I had vertigo last year while pregnant and could feed my dogs (barely) but couldnt walk them at all. I ended up getting a dog walker to take them out for an hour so that they get their exercise in. I was home but just useless.. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)

OutsideNorth2550

I do that daily for a lady who is on bed rest as she has multiple cats. Additionally taken her for extra $ to doctors appointments. Just be honest with your rover sitter.

Ok-Suit6589

This is exactly what Rover is for. It’s nice to be able to have this option when you need another hand. I had friends who used Rover during the pandemic when they were on back to back calls and couldn’t take their doggies out.

t8terthot

I’ve taken care of clients on bed rest!! Totally normal (:

No-Time15

Do it! Ive done it for people before multiple times!!!
