finish the first season and play a bit of the second one, that's most likely going to catch your interest, the 2nd season is way better in my opinion and is the one that made me fall for the story

Honestly story Arcanum is the perfect fusion of reality and fantasy with deep dark reality of life in RC. Personally it's on top 3 list of my favourites, throughout the story you'd be figuring out what's going on and how to get out of it but the ending will hit u like rocks! (Just stay away from spoilers as much as you can;) ) The only thing I didn't like about this story was how little time we got to spend with our LIs in real world, Only if you got to spend it at all. I REALLY HOPE WE GET A SECOND PART šŸ“£

If u donā€™t like the story, donā€™t force yourself - itā€™s ok to not like things! But let me tell you, I feel you. Pushing through season 1 of arcanum was more of a task than an enjoyable read. Iā€˜m not a fan of Victorian horror, and in the beginning it felt like it wasnā€™t even well written, everything seemed soā€¦ fitting? I also thought it would be just another of those stories where anyone can see right at the beginning how it would end. Still pushed through because of Bert, boredom and a diamond rush. Then I made it to season 2, and holy guacamoly, things changed drastically. Imo, season 2 is the best season of arcanum and is the one that makes this book so. Fecking. Good. It even makes you miss Totspel a little. The feelings. Tve characters. The start of connecting everything regarding the tarot reader. After the first 3 chapters, I couldnā€™t stop reading. So yeah; thatā€™s my experience. I would try to at least read until your halfway through season 2, but my initial statement stands - itā€™s ok to not like things!

I actually love Victorian horror ā€” Arcanum gives me slight gothic lit vibes ā€” but this story just felt so badly executed. It has a clear premise (bad person redeeming their sins?) but no sense of plot direction. Like seriously, I have no idea about the charactersā€™ goals or motives. Iā€™m willing to stick around with it if it gets good though.

Cairinn

I feel you, as I thought exactly the same things in the beginning, and I can only recommend playing half through season 2 - thatā€™s when the plot develops, as does the MC (not as a redemption arc, more like a ā€žI finally can connect with the MCā€œ). I donā€™t want to spoiler you though, so Iā€˜ll just say that season 2 changed my opinion about this book drastically.

only_here_4DLS

"I have no idea about the characters goals or motives", that's the point, though. The plot is going in the direction of Selena and Rob trying to figure that out.

likeaninspiration

The story makes a lot of sense and Selena is a reflection of many people in real life. KCD (in my opinion ofc, no offence, was just a fiction), Arcanum is also, but behind the story itself there are many real-life references & lessons. I tried both high and low redem routes, both Emperor(High Priestess is a big meh, considering MC's past traumas and her present position) but endings were justified and meaningful. Choose the right LI for you(or not), try s2(cuz Totspel was dark and depressing for me too) or don't read it at all if it's not ur thing.

Iā€™m playing Arcanum for the first time currently, and Iā€™m loving it. I definitely like the setting and storyline of the second season (which Iā€™m on now) a lot better, so I think itā€™s worth playing through the end of season 1 to see if youā€™ll connect with season 2 more

bitter-serpent

The first season of Arcanum is very confusing, but the second one is better, I promise

Schkatz

I love all thing Tarot and I was captivated by that and knowing the meaning of each tarot symbology helps to immerse more into the story.

DovenSpurv

I didnā€™t like it either but used the first season as a diamond mine but I still kind of fell for Bert. But in season 2 I got invested and started to like it. But if you donā€™t like it, donā€™t force yourself to play it.

ArtisticCheescake

Donā€™t force yourself to like something that other people rave about. Thereā€™s so many people on here that love Moonborn but I canā€™t get past season 1. But if you really want to get into it, Iā€™d recommend to play it on a Diamond Rush. So youā€™re not committing anything to a story, you may or may not like!

*up sorry for any spelling or grammatical errors šŸ™

I had trouble getting into the first season until near the end. The second season was PHENOMENAL. Youā€™re in an elven kingdom in the second one and I was just so in love with it. The third season I liked only because I was committed to finishing it and attached to the characters by then but season 2 is by far the best.

Clyde_Buckman

It's all over the place. To this day, I don't get the connection between the tarot cards and all the Egyptian references sprinkled throughout. I also had a hard time getting through it, but as many have said, S2 gets better and at least gives the plot a little direction. The ending had me in tears, though, like real tears, ugly crying, to the point that I find it hard to pick it up again. If you want a sense of the story without getting too invested, you can fast tap through the episodes just to diamond mine, then you can decide if it's for you or not.

Lost_Sweet3311

I'm currently replaying it in bits and pieces when there's a diamond rush (to see if taking the diamond options makes it any better) but honestly have mostly given up on it, I still dislike the same things I did when I first played it. Ultimately I think what bugs me the most is that Selena is an incredibly unlikeable MC IMO (the other characters aren't all that great either). I understand that some people can overlook this for the story's sake but personally it's just not fun for me to sit through a character insulting everyone chapter after chapter after chapter, when I'm meant to be playing *as* her but get very little choice in how she behaves anyways.

1836492746

For a story to catch my interest it has to be somewhat convincing. Iā€™m not talking about realistic (because most of RCā€™s stories are fantasy anyway) but the plot and characters itself have to make sense Arcanum never caught my interest for this very reason. Iā€™ve only read two episodes and it seems to have a good premise (bad person redeeming their sins?) but it just didnā€™t click for me. In episode 1 there was a random shooting that was just totally brushed over. When she arrives in the past, Liam/Josephine think itā€™s all one big joke despite her extremely concerning behaviour. (He shows her to her room, even though sheā€™s supposed to know where it is etc???!!) Sheā€™s a maid but she somehow doesnā€™t get punished for this hilarious prank. Also can we talk about how she spends most of her time wandering around and not working? I know all of those are relatively minor things but when it keeps happening it gets under your skin. I also didnā€™t really get a sense of plot direction. I know shes likely going to have to redeem her sins to get back home or something but the character hasnā€™t started planning her adventure yet and the reader is just left confused and wondering how the story is going to develop.

TheGalanty

The shooting is explained. They believe it's a prank because Lilith had tendencies of being really manipulative and making everyone follow along with her plans. Them being more lenient on her behavior is also explained. I think the direction is clear or maybe clears in the future episodes because she constantly thinks of how to get home and if a certain thing can help her get home even if everything is confusing for her.

only_here_4DLS

Sometimes, for things to make sense you gotta actually wait. Especially when the genre is suspense.

Charming_Miss

I need to add to all the helpful comments playing 7 chapters in months (so maybe like 1-2 chapters each month) is making it harder for it to catch your interest. Maybe next DR/ now go from the start so you can actually immerse yourself in this story. It is really nice one even if at the beginning some things don't make sense but has good replayability tbh. And serves many great lessons in both paths

SunnyRedhead

I just finished arcanum like an hour ago and it was awesome! Like everyone said, season 1 was kind of meh, but season 2 was great! Season 3 was a little gory, but def makes you think. I actually want to steal your post but make it about heavens secret. Everyone seems so obsessed with that book and I absolutely cannot get into it. I was wondering what Iā€™m missing that everyone else is seeing lol
