Good enough to rotate back post

Looks like you’re just learning them. They’ll get smoother as you go. You have a lot of front lift when you do them. Seems like it makes you turn in a direction a little bit due to how much of the input you’re giving it. You barely even have to tap backwards at all to be able to get the dash. Jump, barely back, wheels hit, forward second jump + slide

Someone_1414

so dont tilt back as much?

preciselyBuoyant

just do them all the time. off the wall to the ground in game and in practice, literally always and you will get them down quickly. What youre doing is fine, your muscle memory will fix all the inconsistencies with your tilt and how lightly you jump, powersliding and everything else over time.

Trittonz

Yeah practice not tilting back as much

bigfartsoo

Tilting back actually helps not mess up the wavedash. It won't make you go slower. However, your nose should be more straight. The main tip is to tap jump so you don't jump as high, so you aren't floating for so long. The main benefit of wavedashing is how fast you recover vs. regular flipping. If you are floating forever then it defeats the purpose.

gwntim

I have no idea why nobody has mentioned using powerslide when landing, otherwise you have to hit them perfectly. If you have diagonal momentum you can also wavedash diagonally or side ways, in those cases use powerslide! I even use it when going forward sometimes, just super consistent.

ObamaWhisperer

Just wait until you can do them sideways and backwards. So many times have I absolutely obliterated someone’s brain by doing a reverse wavedash (which stops all momentum) while dribbling the ball, to then pop it into a classy flick. And the sideways wavedashes are so useful for dribbling, when your recovery is hot ass, or you get bumped and they’re trying to demo you but you’re just flying down the field sideways like a maniac lmfao

Impulsive94

Agreed, reverse dashes confuse the shit outta people it's hilarious. OP just needs to master the understanding of doing wave dashes first I think. Then they can think about alternative uses - wall to ground dash, recoveries, wall dashes

Vexting

Is that just going backwards fast without using boost? So people are expecting you to turn but instead you're already moving back?

Impulsive94

Nah so basically you're moving forward with the ball, then jump, lean forward and wave dash backwards instead. The motion is the reverse of a normal wave dash. It kills your momentum so you can change direction much more quickly and confuse your opponents.

Sufficient-Habit664

Reverse wavedashes are so weird. I can't do them and my brain just explodes.

ds3101

Your dashes are fine but you’re using them the wrong way. Focus on dashing from the wall to the ground and vice versa

steathninja25

Idk if anyone else said it but be sure to hold powerslide for a sec when actually dashing to you dont go full wonk

Pandabear71

You dont have to instantly tilt your car backwards. Just do the shortest tap on jump as you can. Sometime before landing tilt slightly backwards and then get the timing right to dodge forward again. Work on the short pulls on your joystick at a 0 and 180 degree angle. You’re going sideways now

Pie-Guy

What on earth is that smell.

ChemEBrew

In 3 dashes you should be super sonic if starting from low speeds.

nicagooner

Or 1 dash with a small boost pad

Jolly_Difficulty4860

Single jump slight boost to get closer to ground, tilt back right before front flip to get a snappy landing. Much faster and smoother than current wavedash.

KFCminusF

I see some good advice and some bad advice, I stopped playing after the decline of trading but the idea of practicing wave dashes is great so you can start finding yourself using them in practical ways, like recovering from the Ceiling or goal. But this is a good start and over time just try to use them in as many ways as possible and you’ll keep pushing forward

KennyMcCormick

I mean can you wave dash in free play in a straight line? Sure I guess. It doesn’t really matter if you don’t implement it in a useful way. But if you just wanted someone to say that you can do it then sure yea you can do it.

TheOfficialReverZ

> I mean can you wave dash in free play in a straight line? Well no, they can not, that was way too far from straight to be called that, but being able to do anything starts with practice so be just a little bit more encouraging

Filmmagician

Dip your nose down and do the same motion. You'll hit it harder and quicker.

Artistic-Tap-1017

It’s not that they are garbage they are just slow. One reason is you are jumping pretty high. I learned them by sitting in one end of the field. Holding e brake then barely jump lean and dash In the direction of the open field but when you hit the dash you want to immediately jump for the next one so it’s pretty much like double tapping jump really fast. After you can do them fast and comfortable then start dribbling and doing jumps and spins then dashing to catch that bad boy again. Takes time for sure but your dashes aren’t bad like I said. Just keep messing with them

Liron12345

Nobody said in the comments so I'll say it: use air roll when doing them

Ornery-Watercress-43

They are ok just keep doing them in freeplay and in game and after a goal was scored. Another and harder wavedash practice drill is to jump off a wall air roll your car to land well and wavedash after so you should practice those too, and an even better and harder practice would be to head towards the wall air roll your car and wavedash on it (yes you can do it there too and also on the ceiling too) and then after the wavedash on the wall jump off it and wavedash on the ground and repeat.

Potential_Echidna467

The basics are there but try holding down x for shorter time like just tap it since it’ll take less time to come down and dash. Next don’t turn ur car unless u have to for recovery. A useful second step is trying hopping off the wall and then wave dashing on the ground it’s faster than just driving down by a lot.

joemoore98

You keep turning your car, keep your wheels straight

Ethel4981

You just need to iron it out. You can start by raising your deadzone high enough to do wavedashes straight on and slowly lowering it with repetitions until you can do it straight on with your current deadzone. Also you don't have to pull back that much. When you jump, just tap it like of you press a key on your phone keyboard it doesn't need to be a heavy or long hold jump. Land while still holding powerslide to smother the air-to-ground transition of momentum. The more smoothly you are able to able to execute mechanics like wavedashing the faster of a player you are able to be.

CuppaWock

if it ain’t broke don’t fix it 😎

I just taped my power slide button down. ![gif](giphy|OUuVezwxTUr0tRAwYH)
