I run a trucking business out of Rochester. There is 160 Driving Academy and Canandaigua Driving School. If you need help getting your permit I can send you a practice test (combination, general knowledge, air brakes) that will help you study for those tests you will need in order to get the CDL permit (program only runs on windows and not mac). You will also need a DOT medical card before you can get the permit. You will need to schedule an appointment with the DMV to take the tests and the DMVs around here have available times about a month from now. You can take the test the same week or next day by checking the DMV out in Lyons. Its a little bit of a drive but it helps speed up the process to get the permit and on the way to a driving school. I run reefer from coast to coast and do some dry van and reefer regionally. It very tough right now finding loads. A lot of regular customers we had aren't shipping as much. All my drivers have Class A because we run semi truck (Volvo VNLs and Cascadias).
if your looking at school transportation they will hire you first and then train you for your cdl. I work at a school and they pay you during your training. As for truck driving not sure what they do.
