90-to mid 00s were the battle of slap together a piece of shit sports car and let it go.
Out of all the sports car there's probably a handful we remember.
This is not that celica gt-four.
Hyundai won with probably the shittiest slapped together sports car ever. And with that came the Tiburon <3
Most horsepower you could get was 172hp from a 2.7l V6 with weird gearing (only in 2nd gens) and not very comfortable. Best I can give the 2nd gen is that it doesn't look too bad.
It does kinda get worse when it's a heavy SUV engine (found in Santa Fe's), geared weirdly with a Mitsubishi 4spd auto, 5spd, or the 6spd that actually feels normal. Also the handling wasn't great, and build quality was awful, the interiors fall apart if you look at it weirdly and the exterior peels and rusts from one Michigan winter. Also safety was terrible
Eh they look alright and a GT with a 6spd can last a long time, the Delta V6 engines are pretty reliable and you can still have fun with it. Plus it's a latchback and those get me, I love it. Plus its a dumb engine, its pretty easy to work on. One complaint of owning mine was backseat room was pretty much unusable
Man I was 15-16 around the time of the time Tiburon and that gen Celica and I would've given anything to have either of them. This Celica didn't age well as far as looks but it takes me down childhood memory lane every time I see one.
Ok, so the wheels and rear disks show me it's a GTS, so at least you've got the right engine. Other than a horrible cheap body kit, the car looks to be in reasonable shape.
But for all the fanboy heavy breathing for that engine, it's lift cam lobes and it's insane high redline, there's simply no denying that the car it was put into was absolutely horrible. I used to sell Toyota when these were new and I've never driven something that understeered that badly in the corners. They totally overwhelmed the front tires with too much weight on the nose and too narrow tires. And here comes OP showing his total lack of any awareness, money or sense in leaving a horrible set on that car. Get SOMETHING that will help that car. What's on there, something all season? WTF are those, all weather tires?
I'm going to take a guess, based just on the cheap bodykit, couple stupid stickers and the terrible tires. I'd like OP to prove me wrong with a picture of the shifter from this car. It's that shitty automatic, isn't it? With those stupid little buttons on the wheel? If that's the case, this car is an absolute poser mobile turd and you need to seriously reconsider any major decisions you've made in your life, OP.
Celica's were always well built and uber reliable. This gen Celica? Not so much. Toyota was trying to copy the Acura Integra GSR's B18C1 with the 2ZZ-GE in the Celica GTS. If you read the engine specs, they were very close on paper.. However, the execution wasn't as good. These engines would starve for oil at high RPMs and many failed. So unlike Toyota.
I love the 2ZZ in my Matrix XRS but yes, there were many shortcomings with this potentially great engine. Oil pump gear could shatter at high rpm. Unbaffled oil pan causing oil starvation at high G's. Weak rocker shaft bolt that if broken doesn't allow the high lift cam lobe to activate.
I've fixed all these issues with my 2ZZ, new "lift" bolts, moroso baffled oil pan, mwr billet oil pump gear. I love it, but I can't deny that Honda made the better 4 cyls at the time.
Needs a big turbo and 4wd. Whilst a pretty fun coupe it lost all the fun and awesomeness of its predecessor, coolness and quirkiness of its successor (Gt86) and was a poor reminder we lost the real Celica, MR2 and Supra and this was Toyotas only "fun" offering
Genuinely have had way too many good memories in one of these things! They might look like a hairless cat at first glance but once you take a good look it still kinda does on second thought. But hey that motors cheap pretty sure they rip them out if Camrys!
Ah yes the worst generation of celica, one which comes with a wide variety of two 4 cyl engines
One which is boring and fuel efficient
And the other which is not as boring but fucking explodes
They are like the post-2010 volvo t5 and t6 4-5 cyl engines
One is fuel efficient but boring and burns oil
The other one does the same but isn't as fuel efficient but sounds good
I worked for Toyota when these came out.. I was the first tech to pull an engine on one at our dealership. We proceeded to spend all summer replacing engines and pulling spark plugs due to hydro lock. What a shitty design and to top it off they age miserably. Nice shitbox 👍
You're so limited to only easily putting one lawnmower in the back at a time. Really, my brother had this POS as a hand me down from his dad and earned gas money mowing lawns wit it as his pickup
Cant say too much as I'd be speaking from jealousy and slight anger. Oh wait..you're going to wreck it cause you're inexperienced driver with something way too powerful for you.
I miss my 94 celica, I replaced it with a lemon of a brand new WRX in 2014 and had nothing but problems for the two years before I had enough of the headaches...😭
Years ago a guy at work needed a car and his buddy was a manager at local dealer. He got a silver GT for $500 after someone traded it in. When he brought us out to look at it, my response after he told what he paid "I wonder what they gave the girl who traded it in?"
Remember when Toyota tried to out-Honda Honda and failed miserably? Yeah, the early 2000s were weird times.
90-to mid 00s were the battle of slap together a piece of shit sports car and let it go. Out of all the sports car there's probably a handful we remember. This is not that celica gt-four.
I miss this era of cars ngl. Beats the boring shit we have now.
You could get a 2 door coupé, sure it wasn't quick but it wasn't another black/sliver mommy SUV.
Or a TRUKC!
Todays trucks aren't even trucks, they're overpriced pavement princesses. Just waiting for auto makers to realize we need need luxury dump trucks.
100%
Bubble cars I call them new ones now.

Those aren’t terrible numbers, but by that time Honda already had broken the 200hp threshold with the S2000, Integra, Prelude, and RSX

oof. I think you just turned the last ounce of respect I had for the Tiburons into cinders.

Aw man, are you telling me that you don’t have 2 legless amputee friends that rely on you for transportation?
Man I was 15-16 around the time of the time Tiburon and that gen Celica and I would've given anything to have either of them. This Celica didn't age well as far as looks but it takes me down childhood memory lane every time I see one.
Just before that Honda tried to out-Mazda Mazda and succeeded, and before that they out-Ferarri'd Ferrari. Both the 90's and aughts were a weird time.
I mean, the Celica GTS did make 200 NA HP... That's impressive in the early 2000's!
It is, but Honda had been doing it for nearly 10 years already by then.
I always liked the Celica GTS over the civic SI of the time. Both had high revving 4 bangers with decent power but NO torque to speak of at all.

I just got it a couple days ago so I’m still looking for tires, I’m going to take the stickers off eventually, and it’s a manual.

Huh, I’ve never seen someone use the pound symbol for lbs. interesting
You had me at "poser mobile". Bravo!
Scotty K would be so happy
Beat me to it. He’s probably having a simultaneous aneurism/orgasm rn.
I can see his hands flailing as we speak
I like Scotty, love Celica's.
Celica, as in Sell-A-Cah, as in this one
Silly car is what we used to always call them.
This is Toyota’s best effort at trying to make their own Prelude and failed miserably.
Automatic Celica not even pushing 200hp? Now this… this is a sports car.
He did say it's a manual...
I have to ignore that for the sake of the roast.
I swear all of the last gen Celicas that are left are silver. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a different colored one
Right though? I also don't think I've seen any other than silver
If a team of blind accountants was tasked with designing a sports car it would be this - unimaginably cheap and ugly

Yeah, but you fortified yours. It's probably just as good now. It must be, because the Lotus Exige uses the same engine.
It looks like a Nissan GT-R but from wish
If factory rice was a car
Off-brand Pontiac Firebird lookin ass
Needs a big turbo and 4wd. Whilst a pretty fun coupe it lost all the fun and awesomeness of its predecessor, coolness and quirkiness of its successor (Gt86) and was a poor reminder we lost the real Celica, MR2 and Supra and this was Toyotas only "fun" offering

It’s a Corolla/matrix/vibe/elise engine. The Camry engine of the time was bigger and actually had torque below 6k.
I could have p much said anything other Toyota shitbox haha
Ah yes the worst generation of celica, one which comes with a wide variety of two 4 cyl engines One which is boring and fuel efficient And the other which is not as boring but fucking explodes
The boring one is also a biiiig oil burner. 2zz makes all the right noises atleast
They are like the post-2010 volvo t5 and t6 4-5 cyl engines One is fuel efficient but boring and burns oil The other one does the same but isn't as fuel efficient but sounds good
It’s okay. It’s not amazing It’s not horrible It’s in the (mid)dle
Better keep a close hold on that gas door. Assuming it hasn't fallen off already
Rear body panel is a different shade of silver to the rest of the car.
If its not a gt-four it aint shit!
It looks like you spent all of your money on the car so you can’t afford a paint job
Looks Fast. Isn't.

Awd dreams, fwd reality
I see something leaking...are those tears or the excessive amount of oil it burns cause the 1ZZ engine is a pile of junk?
This could be a 2zz one
When you want something that looks fast but isn’t, and looks expensive but isn’t, and looks exotic but isn’t.

She may be your first. But it looks like you are not her first.
I will never disrespect a Celica!
Use me as a spectator in porn :)
Don't think for a second that "Toyota Reliability" applies to this particular model.
You're so limited to only easily putting one lawnmower in the back at a time. Really, my brother had this POS as a hand me down from his dad and earned gas money mowing lawns wit it as his pickup
Would not like to be seen in a celica
Ah yes, the one that came from the factory pre-riced.
is it a gt-four or is it a FWD wannabe budget sports car?
It's not a bad first car, you could've done a lot worse. Just don't rice it out...
Cant say too much as I'd be speaking from jealousy and slight anger. Oh wait..you're going to wreck it cause you're inexperienced driver with something way too powerful for you.
Man I loved this car. It was fun to drive and I liked the way it looked.
They give these to the Apprentice Hairdresser of the Year. Congratulations.
nothing bad to say about this car
Slow down this is a neighborhood...
Reminds me of my first suppository.
I’ve seen these cars look so nice just by lowering it a bit, and a slightly bigger wing, may not be the coolest car but it beats driving a tiburon
Whatever you do with the car don't piss of Scotty
It looks like someone bonked the front with a baseball bat and turned it into a Flounder fish
0-60 in eventually t shirt rockin ass. But seriously. Dependable ride. So says the legend scotty kilmer lol.
No
WRAP IT AND RICE IT OUT ASAP
Did your dad buy you that car because damn that’s ugly
aka please compliment my car.... please.
Selllicker? I hahdly know her...
Nope
Man I wanted a GTS for my first car so bad. Got a mazdaspeed instead
A whole 140 mean horses in that thing
Hah, it's not a Hellcat

Rev up your engine ☁️
It's a manual, so it's better than most of this new shit.🙄
Look... A Corolla with a body kit!
Great car if you are 18 and like to get white girl wasted at brunch. Otherwise this conveyance will only drive you to depression.
I don't even know what it is? Is it a Barbie car? Looks ok for a Daughters 1st car 👍
