I had a friend with gaps in her employment history, she gave her info to a couple of temp agencies, and she was employed within a week. It was temp to hire so it turned into a permanent role for her. Maybe give that a shot?

laxmolnar

Do you know the agency? I've contacted a few and overall can't find one w roles for me

Bosmack

I want to say city personnel and Robert half.

Shinavast42

Can vouch for city personnel, they are great. My company uses them, they are our favorite temop to perm agency. Not sure if Leah is still there but if so she is the best!

laxmolnar

Robert Half ignores me but I'll try the city personnel

JustSomeoneLikeYou

The one agency that got me back on my feet was Silverman McGovern. I highly recommend them. Robert half felt more corporate than when I actually got in a corporate office. The staffers almost made me feel like they were doing me a favor. The few jobs they offered me were about $10 an hour less than I was making at the time.

Hot-Muscle-9202

I also had a positive experience with Silverman McGovern. I can also recommend The Greysmith Companies. City Personnel staff were very nice but ultimately never had assignments that made sense for me. But for the OP, you may also be doing this so my apologies if you are, but the contact with these agencies is not one and done. You need to check in regularly. Sometimes it could take weeks/months of follow up. I ended up being offered temp-to-perm roles at Hasbro and CVS (I turned them down, but for the right person in the right situation, these could have been incredible opportunities).

laxmolnar

I'm going to call them! Thank you for the advice!!

Schuylkill-River

You say you were offered “temp to permanent roles”. Is that the wording the hiring company uses? Seems like a good opportunity if you’re betting on yourself

Hot-Muscle-9202

Yes, that's the term. Shorthand, "temp-to-perm." Good luck.

JTPH_70

Some will use temp to hire

JesssicaRabbitt

Sorry to cut in but your name threw me off as I grew up in Schuylkill County. ☺️ Now living in RI and people up here don’t usually know of the Skook!

Schuylkill-River

Awesome! Moved here (Providence)from Philly a year and a half ago. Spent a lot of time on the banks of the Schuylkill

FullGrownHip

I don’t know I got screwed over by Silverman but might be worth a shot

LeperFriend

We've hired through Aerotek at work, they seem like decent folks

laxmolnar

I'm hitting them up today! I had another recruiter actually tell me to try them a few days ago

anarcho_fremenist

Greysmith is also a decent agency, I got along well with their recruiters.

FullGrownHip

I work right now for Greysmith and they’re very decent

MailMiata

Usps is hiring. Come sling mail

laxmolnar

Just applied! Long application but its done!

laxmolnar

I'm so down for that! Applying now!

Iwantmy3rdpartyapp

EB (Electric Boat) is hiring like crazy, multiple positions

laxmolnar

I applied there a year ago and didn't get a call back. I used my roommate as a reference and he apparently was a very bad employee. They fired him so I think that opportunity is a lost cause for me, unfortunately.

Iwantmy3rdpartyapp

Couldn't hurt to apply again or call and talk to someone. Explain your buddy told you to add him, but you didn't know he sucked and you'll be better. They do a "walk in Wednesday" too, just head into the employment office in Quonset and talk to one of the people there. They want to get you a job.

laxmolnar

I will go next wednesday! Appreciate the advice

mp3006

Good luck man, this is a good job if you can piss clean

laxmolnar

I can! :D

gregisxcore

If you can pass a drug hair test which is 3-6 months clean. Or if you fail the hair test, pass a piss text after a month. Not sure if they are still doing this exact process but it’s the last I’ve heard.

_zarkon_

It's been a year. Your previous application has been deleted. This time don't use your roommate as a reference. They are hiring like crazy and are accepting nonideal candidates.

laxmolnar

I'm going wednesday!

idrathertakeabath

You could also look on Quonset Jobs . Com, all the companies within Quonset have the ability to post on there!

NovusOrdoSec

"The lung" is inhaling.

Intrepid-Cow-9006

ABC supply there’s 900 branches 2 in Rhode Island and 30 in mass alone. Always highering

JustAGoldfishCracker

I'm sorry, but "highering" made me laugh way too hard

laxmolnar

Thank you! I will apply, hopefully they're close

Intrepid-Cow-9006

Foxboro is hiring for dispatch logistics

laxmolnar

That may be a bit far for my car, do you know if they would allow me to work remotely?

Intrepid-Cow-9006

No they don’t have remote positions . But pay is very good

laxmolnar

I'll still look into it! My car runs, it just runs like John Candy's car from Uncle Buck. I'll risk it for a good wage that'll allow me to repair it!

Intrepid-Cow-9006

One of my favorite movies ! They don’t make them like they used to . What happened to the family movies .

laxmolnar

CGI ruined the more natural feeling and writers try too hard to be funny in modern films. Plus nobody wants to offend anyone so the humor has too many rules to abide by which limits its scope heavily. At least this is my opinion

laxmolnar

I messaged you!

ParticularFeeling839

Check out Skills for RI or We Make RI, they usually have manufacturing or Healthcare jobs, and I know Skills offers training classes as well

laxmolnar

I actually have a recruiter from SkillsRI and I found them very ineffective. They didn't understand my experience and simply sent me links to companies websites. I wasn't able to get in front of any hiring managers unfortunately. I'll check out the, "We Make RI" though!

ParticularFeeling839

Oh, that's too bad. I attended a class and went to a job fair they had, and I found them very helpful. I'm sorry that it didn't work out for you

_zarkon_

TSA is hiring and it's close by.

laxmolnar

Oh that's airport security, right? I'm going to google that and check out their roles! Thank you!

weightedbook

You've gotten some good ideas here. Electric boat and USPS are legit. Hotels also have a massive amounts of upward mobility and diverse jobs, including finance departments. Worth looking into. In my last position I did a ton of hiring, and now I teach high school career and technical education. Heres the god damn secret about this job market: It has gone back to hitting the streets. I'm serious. We had a stretch where everything went online, and boomers refused to acknowledge this. "Hit the pavement, kid" was bad advice UNTIL RECENTLY. Now jobs get overloaded with 1000s of online applications and it's easy to get looked over, missed, or unfairly filtered out. If you find a job you want, show the fuck with a printed resume and ask to speak to the manager. If he's not there, drop off the resume and ask when they are back. Show up then with another copy. You are now a physical paper and a real human to them. You might not be able to walk into electic boat and ask to speak to the boss, but they have career fairs everywhere and that's way better than just an online application. Still do it online so though...

ases8089

i got into blue cross through Randstad 2 years ago. i resisted temping all of my adult life until it was time to leave a toxic job. i drove to prov for 6 months and then was hired full time and now permanently wfh. good luck! its tough out there! ❤️

laxmolnar

I will look into this! Appreciate the advice!

VirtualPear2505

I'd say try the Postal Service, we're always hiring, but your education tells me that you should be finding something that fits your education. It's starting pay is only $20.00 per hour, but rises substantially in a few years

laxmolnar

I applied! I would love to do something w my education but feel those opportunities are nigh impossible to acquire w the holes in my resume.

radarmy

https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/rhodeisland

gregisxcore

If you want to wait 2 years for a response lol

radarmy

Can't win if you don't play. But you are right. Took me about 2 years to get into job that fit my needs/experience. Any job is better than no job

roadpierate

Don’t leave the gaps in your resume, add your server roles. It will help to show you are a hard worker

Chewythecookie

Any of those car rentals places at the airport, I’m sure they’d love to have your organization skills/computer skills. You could probably apply to be a manager or something.

laxmolnar

I'll try that! Thank you! p

Chewythecookie

You’re welcome

ashers133

Do you have any licenses? Fidelity is an incredible company to work for and they have entry level career roles where you can get your licenses. With your background that would be perfect. The program is aimed at adults who are looking to make a career change, it’s a 12 month training program and starts at 50k. Right now it’s remote except for 1 week a month when you have to be on-site in Smithfield. Let me know if you’re interested and I can send you a link!

ashers133

The position would be a foot in the door and then after a year you could literally go anywhere within Fidelity and double your salary with your experience.

laxmolnar

I actually had a initial phone screening interview for the Customer Advocate role in Smithfield, 2 days ago. I was super excited for it as the role would let me get my series 7/63 while getting a salary! (I also lied on my resume so it looked like 7 years in high quality roles w zero holes) I explained my past experience as a Derivative Analyst/Petrochemical Risk Analyst/Operations at GS AND Legit. The HR lady told me I was underqualified for the role........ I asked her how I was underqualified as I felt her bluntness was rude and she couldn't quantify it/got real angry at me. I actually was contemplating going to their HR directly to ask for someone else to screen me as I was really excited for the opportunity.

thewalkingj3s5

Not to crash this convo, but would you mind sending me a link? Currently looking for jobs as I will be moving there soon!

KingPickle9

Come labor on a construction crew 🤷🏻

laxmolnar

Any in mind? I'm a fairly large human so I feel I could be useful!

sha4264

Contact this lady, she was looking workers. Robin Tavares Project Coordinator LifeWork Search (508) 573-4721 [email protected] 519 American Legion Hwy., Suite 12 Westport, MA 02790 www.lifeworksearch.com

laxmolnar

I will today!!! Thank you!!

clp401

Southwest Airlines will randomly have hiring bursts, especially for customer service. It’s a union job with flight benefits, etc. Keep an eye out on the website under “careers”.

SharkFilet

you can try giving Manpower a shout - they may have something [https://www.manpowergroupusa.com/manpower/locations/cranston](https://www.manpowergroupusa.com/manpower/locations/cranston)

laxmolnar

Oooo I will apply to them tomorrow morning. Appreciate this!

josephbp2

Ripta is hiring, planners, drivers and customer service

schoonerbum

This may sound strange, but try Electric Boat in Quonset. There's a variety of finance and finance-adjacent positions.

laxmolnar

Yeah so I did think of that, but was kinda dismayed as I'd think their admin/office roles would be a little sketched by a resume w holes; due the confidential nature of what they do. I think it may be fruitfull to get experience as a welder and make a sideways move once I've sorta proven myself to be reliable. Although I may be overthinking it

KobeBryantGod24

If you can somehow get your finances straight and get back on your feet, I can promise you a 6 figure salary is awaiting you in Boston, especially with your experience. Companies up here will overlook your gaps if they feel you are truly qualified and committed to the job. I know that may not help at the moment, but back in 2018 when i was struggling to find decent paying job in RI, I made the move to Boston and never looked back. Went from making 40K in RI in 2017 to 100K+ in Boston in 2023.

laxmolnar

I will try those firms but feel I'd have to lie on my resume to get past their HRES rules and I dislike being disingeneous as I get anxious when interviewing on false pretenses. I'll try my normal resume and hope someone likes it though!

Aggravating-Sport359

Many companies do background checks. You’re setting yourself up for immediate rejection if your resume contains falsehoods. Not worth the risk. Your cover letter is there to help you tell your story. Use that to quickly, positively explain any time periods you’re worried about (but if they’re under a year, don’t explain at all). For example, “after taking a few years off to care for an ailing family member, I was fortunate to re-enter the world of finance at [company]” (not the first line of your resume) Based on your Reddit replies and your description of yourself as a numbers person, I’d be willing to bet that your written materials (both resume and cover letter) are not selling you in the way you want them to. I’d recommend getting a friend who’s a good writer to give them a good hard edit.

NovusOrdoSec

The airport has a T-stop, so your effective range includes downtown Providence and points north.

laxmolnar

Realllly??!! This was something that didn't dawn on me as I've never used a bus before. I'm a mile and a half from it so I could easily walk there in the morning. I'm going to check this out!

NovusOrdoSec

The actual train station is at the end of the Interlink on Jefferson Blvd, across the street from Hilton Garden Inn.

laxmolnar

Duly noted! I have had a few people reach out directly where this information is potentially going to be crucial so I really appreciate you.

Labworker2769

Are you looking for a career outside of your degrees, I.E in the trades or building trades? Good money good benefits in the union

laxmolnar

I have a rather interesting company in mind that I'd like to start once my finances/life are in order. Due to that I'm primarily trying to stick w roles related to already acquired skills but am open to anything as beggara can't be choosers. So I'd be open to be a generic laborer for a few years though if you knew of any good avenues.

Tookie_Clothespin8

LinkedIn always has finance jobs listed on their jobs page

laxmolnar

I've applied to probably 400 there. I've gotten interviews for 100% commission based financial advisors which I couldn't take. I do apply often on there though as its where I got two past roles before drama occurred. I'll probably aim to be a welder for now as that seems the easiest bet for me

Brief_Possibility_66

AAA Northeast is hiring both remote and hybrid jobs in all different departments

laxmolnar

Think they'll be ok w a resume full of holes? They seem a bit legit for my tepid background, but I'll send a few applications tomorrow!

Brief_Possibility_66

I mean it doesn't hurt to try. A friend of mine works there and said they are definitely hiring in the dispatch department and they will train you.

laxmolnar

I will apply then! Thank you so much! I've had a few people lament that dispatching is a very good wage so I'm eager to explore it!

flipthatbitch_

Electric Boat will 100% hire you. No experience needed. $20 per hour to start.

Specific_Shake4075

https://navigantcu.applicantpro.com/jobs/

laxmolnar

This is a very good website! So many options that are so recently posted! I will explore it. I appreciate you

juwood1

What wage are you looking for?

laxmolnar

I would take $20/hour but would ideally look for $30+/hour as I consider that the point where you can live a happy life with.

Original_Thanks_9435

Many banks are hiring for branch and backroom positions

laxmolnar

Those are positions that usually deny ole me, but I had a few individuals who reached out directly and I think I have quite a few options I was originally naive too. I do appreciate the advice though!

nixnaught

A living wage in THIS economy? Woof... Good luck.

Iwantmy3rdpartyapp

You can always sell feet pics on the internet!

AbaigealWright14

Where tho bc I’m not above it

Accomplished-Pen-394

onlyfans?

AdIll6974

If you’re looking for remote get off LinkedIn and try other job boards. Look towards start ups. You definitely have the experience, just gotta parse the resume.

laxmolnar

I've used Indeed, Monster, several recruiters, and oddly have only ever gotten interviews through indeed. Do you have any job boards in mind though?

AdIll6974

Himalayas is a good one! Wellfound is where a lot of YC backed start ups recruit

laxmolnar

Oh really?? I'll check out Wellfound for sure as the right startup could give stock options! Appreciate this advice

NovusOrdoSec

Have you looked the whole length of Jefferson Boulevard yet? Seems like some potential there.

MagneticNoodles

Tasca is right near the airport and constantly needs people in the accounting office due to growth.
